  1. Can't say I'm surprised to be honest. Great tidbit Goalie!
  2. HAHA yeah i saw that yesterday. Stupid remark from a business owner but its his right to be disrespectful of the PM I suppose. Im sure he will have just as many customers wanting to eat there now as he will those that dont. Silly what politics reduces some people to.
  3. Goes to lack of remorse and an opinion of the people embracing him. If a vile racist was wrongly convicted of a crime, I'd want justice to prevail but I wouldnt treat him like a hero. He was just shy of 16. Are we going to let 16 year olds who commit murder here get off because they were kids and potentially influenced by people around them? We are to accept that he didnt know right from wrong at 16 but does now? I really dont want to argue the point because Im no expert on his case. But my main point being this is not politics, its justice and he's being held up as some sort of anti-government lefty hero. If he's innocent then the media shouldnt have a problem reporting on all the facts that we have to do more digging to find, like his behavior in Cuba for one. He wasnt on a camping trip in the Middle East. It makes me very uncomfortable how he is being portrayed right now.
  4. My prediction is Copp and Morrissey start the season on the Jets if Chairot can now be re-assigned to the Moose without waivers (someone smarter than me, please confirm or deny)
  5. Well I think Levant has some intelligence and common sense (regardless of his political leanings) so yes ofcourse he did. I think intelligence and common sense would dictate that Khadr should have been released. Terrorist fighting on behalf of al-Qaeda, convicted of murdering a US medic, confessed in a statement approved by his lawyers, from a family of al-Qaeda supporters, reportedly racist and sexist and demonstrated no remorse for his actions. He shouldnt be a political propaganda toy. His lawyer would not allow any difficult questions to be asked of him and the lefty media ate it up. I guess he's the western world's first al-Qaeda rock star.
  6. I find it interesting though that the headline is White Cop Kicks Black Suspect. Why dont they print their hometowns, religious affiliations and shoe size? There was nothing in the video that indicated the ethnicity of either person had anything to do with the incident. It was a suspect refusing to comply with verbal commands and a cop choosing to assault him rather than use his training to secure the suspect.

  8. Need you say more? That's the NDP ideology. I was making a general remark about my general opinion about a party in general. Not a nasty comment about a person specifically that was actually incorrect.
  9. Try watching his his stuff this week on Kadr and the election. Its easy to paint people in generalities without actually looking at specifics
  10. I just saw him last week. He didn't look like he was heavier. Don't get me wrong. I think he's a good player. If he can find a way to play like Tyler Johnson then great. I just don't think he's Tyler Johnson. And he's definitely not Johnny Gaudreau. I havent seen him so I would certainly defer that point to you. The point being, there are other examples of guys being top line guys at the same or smaller size than Petan. i've never seen Petan play so I can only go by what I read and people seem to think he's got top line talent. I think he will start the season in the AHL though. Because A) no reason to rush him I dont think we have a desperate need at the spot they'd want him to play (mid six) It wont hurt Moose ticket sales either... ;-)
  11. Is there any sense that Buono would want to trade him?
  12. Why? Nic Petan: 5'9" 166lbs **Supposedly people who have seen him say he's heavier now, closer to 175+ Martin St Louis 5'8" 180lbs Tyler Johnson 5'9" 175lbs Johnny Gaudreau 5'9" 150lbs Not sure any of the above three would have a problem making the Jets out of training camp.
  13. Oh my...By posting a link to an Ezra Levant video you have dealt your credibility as a clear thinking individual an enormous swallop. Not really. Ezra is a right wing personality. But he often makes a lot of wonderful points. I've watched a few of his videos recently and he's actually very even keeled. Not sure if he's making an effort to be less of a "personality" and more of a mainstreamer but his stuff on the convicted murder Kadr and the left's love of the terrorist have been very good.
  14. I looked into this and from what I could read, this whole mantra that the government was "muzzling scientists" was a bunch of alarmist BS, much like the alarmist BS being spread about Bill C-51. Is the government really "muzzling" scientists? No. Not really. It's amazing how a soundbite these days gets into the public mainstream and then is repeated as gospel over and over again. Today all I see are idiots posting "#Harperisabigot" everywhere. Just ridiculous. These people truly are their own worst enemy. great post. Yes, "Stop Harper" "Harper is a bigot"...big bad scary Harper. All made up alarmist conspiracy theory nonsense. Just like Harper hates Aboriginals because he responded to the "murdered and missing aboriginal women" issue by saying it's a police matter. Realistically, it's probably an Aboriginal matter but somehow it's Harper's fault. Okay. I guess Justin the wizkid will somehow stop that. Probably as successfully as the NDP will end hallway medicine in manitoba.
  15. I'll add:- Parliamentary privilege was reached 3 times by his Gov. This is the 1st time for any democracy. - wilfully violated the election spending limit in 2006 - Changed a $16 Billion dollar surplus into a record $56 Billion dollar deficit - one of the Cons promises was more accountability - but Harper has shut down Parliament twice, once to stall on a vote, and then again to avoid a vote of non-confidence. - the latest Budget was fudged by cuts to Health care, Coast Guard, dumping GM stock at a steep loss, raiding the the federal emergency fund and spending the UI surplus I could go on, because there is way more to Harper's bizarre politics, but I tire of these "politics" and so I'll stop. I just wanted to point out that the man who represents Canada isn't all he's made out to be. Or maybe he is. I'll add "the muzzling of government scientists" to Harper's rap sheet. Scientific work shouldn't flow through the PMO. Science is not politics or public relations. Dont play the deficit card, please. It was the opposition that forced a larger deficit then the Cons intended and had it been the Liberals or NDP in power, that deficit would be a lot larger...and I doubt we'd be ahead of the game on returning to surplus. I mean, really, that's pretty apparent.
  16. Sometimes I wonder how we've had the NDP in power for so long in this province... then I read threads like this and see opinions like these and it all starts to make sense. Otherwise intelligent people who think there's a Conservative "hidden agenda" to keep women barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. And as if somehow it's a bad thing for more women to be able to be stay at home moms. The NDP is here to save our women from being forced to stay home by their evil conservative husbands. I think, in the most general terms what I dislike about the left is their sense that they are smarter than everyone else and know whats better for everyone whether we know it or not.
  17. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=2YVMgq3hs5g Police in Delaware have released video from a 2013 incident showing a black suspect being kicked in the face by a white officer who has been charged with assault. The dash cam video was released by the Dover Police Department on Thursday after a federal judge ruled the images it contains are no longer confidential. The video was released three days after Dover Police Officer Corporal Thomas Webster was arrested on a charge of felony assault for kicking Lateef Dickerson as he kneeled to the ground during his arrest near a Dover gas station, police said. Dickerson suffered a broken jaw and was knocked unconscious, police said in a statement.
  18. I think Ehlers would have to have an awful camp to not make it. Without AHL eligibility I just can't see him going back to junior. Morrissey might make it but I could also see him starting the season with the Moose. True north doesn't like to rush players and the D is not a weakeness. Will be interesting to see by the end of the year who the odd man(or men) out on D are though.
  19. But like it or not it's a choice some people make. The other side of the coin is the dirty granola eating tree hugger idea that the government should raise all the kids out there so that they can be indoctrinated into the socialist manifesto from an early age. Exactly. I dont believe that is the Cons position whatsoever. They just arent punishing women (or men) for staying at home and raising a family.
  20. It's personal preference. I get the thinking behind income splitting, I just disagree. I think tax rates should be based on individuals, not households. For GST, I think the benefit of lowering it for individuals is pretty insignificant in comparison to the cost of lost revenue for the government. This is my thinking as well. As for Senate, I'd be happy with an elected senate. Every government uses it to stack their people and award jobs. And every government will continue to do so. Why are they not elected?
  21. Oh and when I read about the negatives of the Security Bill, the criticism is really a lot of paranoia. Is the government going to arrest people for staging legal anti-government protests and call them "terrorists? Give me a break... its really much ado about nothing to be honest.
  22. I think that the anti-Harper crew have to play any card they have in the deck. In 2011 all I heard was that Harper was a Nazi who was going to make abortion and gay marriage illegal and stack the Supreme Court with right wing judges. Well none of that happened. They can't really say their guy is going to do a better job of managing the economy (well they can try, but no one is going to believe it) so all they have left is the fear card. According to the polls not too many are buying this. This new security bill is a bit of a head-scratcher. I don't now why Harper is doing this right now, but I guess I have nothing to hide so I don't really care. People went way too far demonizing Harper in his early days. It's happening again with Trudeau, only with different talking points. People are scared of what's new in politics. A few things I dislike about Harper: - the new security bill seems unconstitutional and overreaching for what a government should be able to keep secret - very little debate has been allowed in the house - He wanted to abolish the senate, but has since appointed more of them than any other pm in history - has very little use for the collectively bargained agreements with the Public servants that the government signed - the Supreme Court has had to slap him down several times, then had a little fit after his choice for judge was disallowed - lowering the GST and income splitting are bad ideas imo. - his views on pot - mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent crimes - wearing a Canada jersey instead of a Jets jersey I dont agree with most of those but I can see your point. Honestly, none of those things are bad compared to what we see of Justin. I wouldnt have lowered the GST. I do think income splitting is a no-brainer. Even if it's not in the best interests of generating tax dollars. But I also want a complete overhaul of the taxation system, simplify it etc. I want to see lower income taxes. I'd prefer sales tax and user fees. let me keep more of the money I earn and let me decide how much tax I will pay by how much I buy. I've come around on the pot issue. But wasnt it under Harper that the laws were relaxes? Its sort of an ideological thing about pot as a drug. Honestly, I dont want a nation of pot heads. But I also dont want to deny access to pot for medical reasons. if my loved one needed it, I dont want to jump through hoops. I want to call up Jimmy from down the block and get some weed. Wish he had abolished the senate. But dont blame him for making appointments. All governments did so. Not sure why he hasnt gone ahead and booted it though. Unions have a warped view of their own importance in a modern world. Im unionzed. I make really good money. But my union leadership are unintelligent, paranoid, angry, faaaaarrrr left wing nuts. Ill tell you this, it should be illegal for a union to make political donations of MY dues with my okay.
  23. OK Ben Franklin. What is it that we are supposed to be so scared of? I think part of the problem is that the fear-mongering I've seen has all come from people I wouldn't let mow my lawn, that's how little respect I have for their intellectual capacity. I generally agree with this. Im sort of a social liberal and believe in constitutional law and freedoms. But I stop short of assuming the government will always abuse it's power of detention, arrest etc just because the laws are more strict. Detaining someone for seven days rather than three. Okay, do we really believe that this will be used outside of its intended use? And if so, believe me, CBC will be happy to make everyone aware of it. I think Harper is a thoughtful, intelligent person who means well. That doesnt mean I always agree with him. As I said before, the GST reduction...it was a vote getter, it worked and he followed-through. it certainly doesnt hurt me that he reduced the GST so I dont really care. I think the cons are pushing this bill through now because they truly believe in it, because there is always the chance they lose the next election and if they do, the fear of Canada's security under a liberal government. Additionally, I know a lot of Aboriginal activists are up in arms, thinking this bill eliminates their right to protest. It doesnt. Violent, illegal protests? Sure, but if you demand a right to stage a violent "protest", then you've lost all credibility anyway. I dont like the "i have nothing to hide" position either. If the cops came to my door and said they wanted to search my house, chances are I'd let them (unless I was concerned) but I wouldnt like it. In fact, theres also a chance I'd say 'go get a warrant', even though I have nothing to hide. The problem is the opposition doesnt really believe in terrorism. Remember, Justin looks at it from the perspective of what did we do to make a terrorist want to act that way. Although if he wins, he'll be a hit on his visits to Canadian Forces bases in the middle east, especially when he goes out into the desert to hug the misunderstood "protestors".
