  1. Myers is very good. Young. Signed long term. And has a great ckntract.
  2. Yes and I know they increased security after that. But I have a strange feeling that should a 9/11 style event occur the PM would not have complete security and care & control over government from the residence. I could be wrong though.
  3. Thats why it must be independently done, which it really is to a degree but has to be given the go-ahead by government. Take the powers away and let the National Capital Commission have a budget and make decisions on repairs, renovations etc. And as I said, I'd provide a "move in" budget to new government to do some interior design or minor renos. Thats how the White House ended up getting some things that decades later become part of the historical story of the home, because different President's (and First Ladies) make changes. They should also make sure the RCMP provide their two-cents on security. I'd imagine the mansion is not up to a terrorist attack or a major act of war against the nation where the PM might be required to be kept safe and operational at the home.
  4. I generally agree. I worked with people who were more knowledgeable about facts and figures then me but I actually got many opportunities and promotions based on personality and "leadership" qualities. And when I was in a position to have influence I'd make sure that people who were good workers and knowledgeable but perhaps lacked certain skills were still rewarded and recognized for their contributions. One thing I've found is that often women have trouble getting along with other women in the workplace. When I got bumped to a supervisor position, I was actually accused of trading sexual favours for "opportunities" with two girls in the office, one of whom I was close to and one that I had barely spoken one word to...simply because the girls in question did good work and thus got opportunities and were young and attractive.
  5. I think the house is already an embarrassment from the stories. Good enough for Harper but not good enough for the prince. It will be interesting to see how the public reacts. But hopefully the rhetoric doesnt rear its head (aside from mine ofcourse) and it gets done. Make it a palace.
  6. Im of two thoughts. When I was younger I hated affirmative action. As a kid, I couldnt understand it. How is purposely being unequal meant to create more equality? I recall a news story I saw on local TV that an Aboriginal group was challenging police hiring standards, claiming the requirement of a High School diploma was racist. And I remember thinking I dont care what ethnicity the cops are as long as they are good at their job. We've all filled out job applications which include an option for disclosing minority status. Im a white male. And there was a time when the possibility of being filtered out due to that fact bothered me. I understand affirmative action was meant to quickly re-balance an unbalanced system. I dont think any employer should have a quota. But I think being cognizant of hiring minorities and women is important. I applied for a job with the provincial government a few years back which was hugely into minority hiring. It consisted of several exams, background checks and interviews to get hired. But I got it. So to me, a good person will get a job regardless of their ethnicity. Where I work now was traditionally an old boys club and in some instances still is. Im very much in favour of hiring women in positions of power. And from my experiences, the women that have received promotions into Director, VP level jobs are qualified and competent. I think as time passes this becomes less of an issue because the people hiring will hire the best person and the best fit for the job/company and wont care if they are white, black, man, woman, gay, straight etc. As the old boys club moves out. For government agencies that either officially or unofficially have a mandate to be diverse, well, they are probably cherry picking minorities and thats not a good thing if that person is not otherwise qualified.
  7. Ill post the story because it should generate some discussion: Chris Doucette, Toronto Sun Oct 28, 2015, Last Updated: 1:29 AM ET OSHAWA, Ont. - A Canada Revenue Agency worker alleges his employer discriminated against him because he had the misfortune of being born a white man. Joe Bate, 40, is representing himself in the Federal Court case. He claims he was an “efficient and productive” appeals officer for CRA, outshining many of his colleagues. But instead of being promoted, he says his employer used the Employment Equity Act to pass him over. “I could be twice as efficient (as my co-workers), have better communication skills ... but, unfortunately, I was born white,” Bate told the court Tuesday. He said the Employment Equity Act was passed in 1986 to ensure inclusion in the workplace of four groups — women, visible minorities, aboriginals and persons with disabilities. But, he said, it excludes “one specific group.” “What a vicious cycle of discrimination,” he said. Bate pointed out when Canada allowed women to vote in 1918, it didn’t stop men from voting, nor was heterosexual marriage banned when gay marriage was legalized a decade ago. “I feel as an able-bodied white male, I’m the only person excluded by a law meant to benefit all Canadian citizens,” he told the Toronto Sun outside court. “And I feel my employer has gone beyond the requirements of the law to represent (members of the four categories) and not me.” Bate said a management position opened up at his Whitby office in 2013 and he felt he was a lock. But his bosses allegedly made it clear the promotion would go to someone from one of the designated groups, even though, by Bate’s estimation, about 95% of the staff in the office at the time was women and visible minorities. Bate went on disability in 2014 after developing mental health issues, which he says were brought on by the stress of standing up to his employer. He submitted evidence showing CRA has boasted about exceeding national hiring requirements for each category for at least 12 years. He alleged CRA promotes workers from the four categories who are “mostly qualified” in their current position over employees who are more skilled. “This is discrimination towards me and (an) irresponsible use of taxpayer dollars,” he said. Using a hockey analogy, Bate asked the court to imagine if Team Canada implemented the Employment Equity Act and refused to allow Wayne Gretzky to play, or Don Cherry to coach, instead picking players who can “at least skate” just because they’re women or visible minorities.
  8. Well as soon as he tosses it back to the pitcher, is the pitcher not now using an illegal ball?
  9. From a WPG Sun article about the Kane story: By the end of the day, a snippet of another Kane interview popped up on Twitter. In this one, Kane, in a video interview with a site called Barstool Sports, was asked which NHL players he’d most like to fight. “Probably Andrew Ladd and Blake Wheeler,” a smiling Kane said. Track Suit Night, Jan. 10. It’s a Natural. He might get his chance. Will Ladd and/or Wheeler tune him up or will Peluso decide to take out the trash?
  10. Jets deserved a better fate. Saw a comment online that I thought made sense. Said the Jets are god enough to make it a very long night for the best teams in the NHL but playing in the central might mean they are in tough to make the playoffs. Jets *are* good enough to beat any team in the league. But great teams find a way to win those games, not put up a great fight and lose. Watching much of the game I was really impressed. The Jets, for long stretches, looked like world-beaters. They play a tremendous style too. The fact Maurice made a point of saying he's allowed a "less safe" style this year to ramp up offense, you really see the same hard hitting team as last year but with more offensive flair. Realistically, that was a 2-1 game so its not like they gave up on D either. Blake Wheeler's engine never stops. He's turning into a prototypical NHL player. Big, fast, hits, scores, responsible, hustle, gets edgy. A really really good player in his prime. Ehlers continues to impress. He does cherry-pick a bit. He's not a "get in the corners" type of player. I noticed him skating around the Jets blue line when his line mates went into the corners, waiting for an outlet pass. But if they didnt come up with the puck, he'd slide down towards the slot more. His D game seems more about speed and puck possession. He races back to the D zone when needed and uses his talent to move the puck, not much it up in the corners so much. He could break out one of these days and rattle off a few multi-point/multi-goal games. Edging up the rookie scoring list too. Stafford looks like he's rejuvenated. Even the 4th line had chances. Jets need to beat Chicago though. Central so tough they are already slipping (Jets I mean)
  11. Just read another story about how 24 Sussex is a "wreck" and was recommended to undergo major renovations in 2008. I have to say, at the risk of the liberals here going after me, that I find this hilarious and clearly partisan that so much is being made of it now. Imagine if Harper had moved out for 18 months and spent $10M + to renovate? The weariness to do so came because Mulroney spent money on renos and was roasted for it. Lets not forget Trudeau the elder installed an indoor pool (paid for by donations I believe). I still maintain the place should be brought up to a standard world leaders should expect and I honestly dont care if it costs double or triple of they said in 2008. The Harper's referred to it as a heritage building and didnt want to hurt that. I agree. So renovate and restore. It would be pretty cool to host other world leaders and dignitaries in a restored 1800's mansion. And they should also create a fund for regular updates and should also allow incoming PM's a certain budget for decorations and/or minor renovations to suit their tastes. I believe this is the norm in the US.

  13. I wasnt a big Bray fan when he debuted. I liked the music and entrance. They need to use more quality music. A lot of their music is generic right now. But I dont think Bray is particularly great as a worker. His gimmick is good and he plays it well ofcourse. I think fans took to him because he was sort of shattering the WWE-think that a top guy could only be ripped. But what hurt Bray the most was WWE's usual method of pushing a new guy. They bring him in with a push, he gets over strong and then they deliberately push him down the card and kill his crowd responses and then try and build him back up. I have two theories as to why they do this: 1) to make "young guys" earn it and realise it can all be taken away 2) because they dont ever want anyone really over with the fans. Only "WWE" is over, not individual guys. Look what they did to Bryan. Look what they did to Ambrose. But as far as the current angle, its a good use of all involved. The fact Undertaker is working so much this year leads me to believe he intends to retire at WM.
  14. Yes. I think it's just more of a story about "hey Canada aways gets the short end of the stick but not this time".
  15. Big deal because it's a big film and won't be available on US Netflix. And because there are many Canadians who use VPN to access the amarican Netflix due to it having a larger library.
  16. The issue isnt necessarily Wan. He was Asper's guy for all his projects so he was going to be involved. They hired a firm with actual stadium design experience early on and then let them go. if I recall, the feeling was Wan expressed he didnt need their input. Thats where they went wrong. Wan is Wan. But he would have been capable if they had kept the other firm on as consultants, I imagine.
  17. You think Ladd would get you a player of their quality as a pending UFA? Then I guess hes walking for nothing!
  18. @mikeoncrime: #bn The Bombers lost, but seems NDP MLA Andrew Swan left Saturday's game $163,003 richer. https://t.co/aI6D74oJruhttps://t.co/nNCQiw4BRX
  19. Very lucky, Canada is. The Truth North is the only country in the world where Netflix has secured streaming rights to the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. The movie will be available on Netflix in Canada—and nowhere else—about eight months after it leaves theaters. Disney, which owns Lucasfilm, inked a deal with Netflix to stream its movies in the United States starting in 2016. The Force Awakens, however, comes out Dec. 18, 2015—meaning it’s still subject to Netflix’s expired deal with US cable channel Starz. Thus, in the US, Starz has exclusive access to air the new Star Wars film. Disney’s agreement with Netflix in Canada, inked last year, includes all 2015 film releases, unlike in the US and other countries. That deal with Netflix replaced Disney’s deals with Bell Canada, which covered the eastern half of the country, and Corus Entertainment, which covered the western half.

  21. That's really the issue right? If BBB was warned and informed and ordered their contractor to go forward then they are responsible. But I suspect theres a little bit of everything here. The architect designed it poorly and from I understand that includes many things we might not be aware (read today about carting food through the crowd to get to the Pinnacle room because the kitchen is on the opposite side with no internal access). The contractor knowingly built a poorly designed stadium without fully informing the owners of the design issues and/or did shoddy work themselves. I've heard of poorly poured cement for example. The owners (BBB) signed off on a poorly designed stadium and pushed the contractors to work too fast and/or signed off on shoddy work because it was quicker/faster. BBB will likely say "we hired experts and we cant be expected to know. It was their job to know." Contractor will say "we fully informed the owners and they told us to do it anyway." And both will say the architect gave them a bad design from the beginning. The architect will say I have them the design they asked for for the price they were willing to pay, Im sure all parties will end up sharing the responsibility,. The question is, how much will be paid for by the taxpayer?
  22. I assume the GG doesnt want to move out. And probably it isnt needed. The PM also has Harrington Lake he can live in. Im not sure how far that it is. It's referred to as a summer retreat. Perhaps Rideau Hall is more secure and/or closer to Ottawa. Realistically, they should completely gut and renovate 24 Sussex into a more fitting official residence for the PM as well as offices and security options.
  23. I was reading a blog about the Ducks and some of their issues, one being no top quality left wings. Might Ladd look great in a ducks uni if Jets go that route? Not sure who the Ducks have we'd want though...
  24. Great response by Ladd. Can't wait to see him hammer Kane a couple of times.
