Game 10 : Blackhawks @ Jets
The Unknown Poster replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Im not sure if Im comfortable enough with Hutch yet. He seemed to wilt under increased work last season. They could resign Hutch and go with the same combo next year with the intent to trade Pavs at the deadline or walk away at seasons end. Probably nothing wrong with Helle getting another season with the Moose. If we traded Pavs and went Hutch/Helle and there was an injury it means Comrie gets called up. And then suddenly we're pretty young at goal. Though it would be easy to sign a veteran to back up the Moose I suppose. I have some attachment to Pavs in that he came here with the team. I hope his time here doesnt just fade away. But if they can trade him for something, then thats business. He has a decent cap hit for a team wanting veteran back up for the playoffs either this year or next. On the other hand, this year especially, we'd want the same thing! -

I posed that question in a thread (cant remember which one). It was occuring to me too. its early and Pavs and Hutch both had great stretches last season so you never know. But Hutch is an RFA this season and will surely want a raise from his $575,000. Im sure he will want a long term deal too. Pavs has one more season at $3.9M and is then a UFA. So there could be a big decision looming and probably one of them is traded. 1) who gets the most back in a trade 2) If we assume Helle is penciled in as the #2 next season, do you feel more comfortable with Pavs/Helle or Hutch/Halle. I'd guess Hutch would come cheaper than Pavs and the benefit to re-signing him is you'd have a 3-5 year contract I'd assume and not have to worry about goaltending for a few years where as with Pavs he's a UFA after next season so he has more leverage. Thoughts? -

I agree. Par for the course unfortunately. -
Should he have rented a prius? I have no problem with any PM doing this. Security first.

Which is silly and many have pointed out. And yes, Im curious how long you can keep up this inane silliness before Rich puts us all out of our misery! -
Dreger Report The Anaheim Ducks will have to win 52 of their remaining 72 regular-season games to come close to the 109 points and central division title won last season. With every loss, Anaheim, a team favoured by many to win the Stanley Cup, is inching closer to being a non-playoff team. Unbelievable. The urgency of the situation isn't lost on Ducks players, coaches or management and was driven home by Thursday’s 2-1 loss to the Blues in St Louis. It was a loss amplified by Tarasenko's tying goal scored on a two-on-oh, followed by Colton Parayko's game winner on a shot from the point that sailed wide of the net before ricocheting off the end boards and into the Ducks net off goalie Frederik Andersen's skate. The loss in St Louis comes two nights after a meltdown in Dallas, where the Stars scored four unanswered goals in a 4-3 win that left Anaheim demoralized. Vladimir Tarasenko tied things up in the second with his sixth of the season and Colton Parayko's fourth turned out to be the game-winner, as the Blues handed the Ducks their fifth straight loss. Bruce Boudreau will require treatment in a local burn unit based on his media placement on a hot seat that has reached lava-like temperature. The question now is will Boudreau be behind the bench for the Ducks next home game on Sunday? General manager Bob Murray may have more slack left in the rope, or may opt to make a trade to shake things up. However, a trade can't guarantee success and it makes little sense to trade Sami Vatanen or Hampus Lindholm, young defencemen teams are interested in, unless Anaheim is getting quality young assets back. It’s too early for a transaction like that to materialize. Bad luck, mistakes, an offence that has dried up with just 10 goals in 10 games and, subsequently, an eroding confidence are among the factors contributing to the Ducks’ demise. If Boudreau makes it through the weekend he will have to steer Anaheim to a lengthy winning streak to get back in the hunt and away from the crosshairs that target him as the NHL's next coaching casualty.

"Nut job", is the keyword, this was not a well planned, organized attack and no one knows what his real intent was, you're just guessing that he wanted to get Harper. Unlikely that he knew where Harper was at the time and unlikely that he would ever have been able to survive long enough to find him in a huge building if he didn't have a precise plan. I think his real aim was to commit suicide and gain publicity in doing so, but then I'm just guessing. I think it's great that people can't remember this guys name. That's true. I didnt mean to imply he was after Harper but I think its fair to say he would have been happy to kill some important people and probably wasnt going to be fussy about which ones. Had he opened that door, I imagine he'd just start shooting, not ask where the PM is.

I havent watched the game yet. Have it on the PVR. Regarding Wheeler, he seems to play very hard every shift so maybe he's just being overly responsible if you noticed him scooting to the bench quickly. I hope we dont have too many playable injuries this early but as others have said, what a tough pace to keep up all season. -

No you didnt Ducky. You cant say I was wrong based on you telling me what I said and what I meant. You're just sour because everyone pointed out the ludicrousness" of your "Trade Myers" stance and the fact you were arguing a moot point. Now that you've been shown how his contract actually is, do you still want to trade him? And if you're also trying to argue that we might be near the cap in a couple of years so we should trade Myers, you're even more wrong. If the Jets were against the cap, Myers would be one of the last guys considered for trade. Why trade a $5M cap/$3M cash instead of someone who is $5/$5? if you did, you'd be freeing up cap but not freeing up cash. Besides which, the idea of trading Myers is silly without considering his contract. Its moot. MOOOT I say. (or mute as Lawless says. ha) -
Thats good. And yet shocking that a nut job was able to shoot up Parliament and get within one door of the PM (two if you count the closet). And that he was stopped by the Sgt at Arms, not RCMP. Amazing.

I had a great post and lost it but Ill paraphrase. You tend to do this in a lot of threads where your opinion is the correct one and whoever doesn't follow it is a racist or doesn't know what they're talking about or is just plain wrong. People like you need to get off your high horse. You've already lost the debate if you're going to break out rhetoric and nonsense like that. How often do you express your opinion and think its wrong? Where is the logic behind your statement that I express that my opinion is the correct one. ofcourse I think my opinion is correct. If I thought it was wrong it wouldnt be my opinion. But its still an OPINION. You dont know me. Im not politically correct for political correctness sake. I suppose you are correct in that the N word is used a lot. I anxiously await when a major sport names a team the Las Vegas N'ers. I tend to think teams like Blackhawks and Braves chose those names out of a sense of honor. I havent done the research. But to me, choosing those names was to imply the honor, courage, fighting spirt of the people. Redskins? Come on. This isnt me saying Im right and you're a racist. Im subscribing to common sense and logic. And if you think thats me just dismissing your opinion, well all I can say is yes I think if you believe Redskin is a suitable and acceptable way to describe Aboriginal people, then you are wrong. I think people on both sides (but mostly the ones who support the name) have formed opinions without doing some research. So a little paraphrased history: Those against the term generally subscribe to the idea that "Redskin" refers to the scalped heads of Aboriginal people slaughtered by white men. But more often than not, this isnt the case (though I'd strongly assume the term *was* used in that context but not specifically). "Red Skin" originated with Aboriginals as a way to describe themselves to differentiate from "White Skins". So it was originally a benign term. Red Skin and White Skin used much like we'd say Black and White today without any negative racial connotations. But then again, the N word was used in every day conversations in the 1800's and no one thought it was racist. It sure is now though isnt it? And thats the issue here. Its not what the word used to mean or what its intent is. If the original namers of the Washington Redskins intended the name as an honor of Aboriginal people, then great for them. But if a football team from 1890 was called the Tennesee N'ers, would that name still exist today? Ofcourse not. Not even a discussion. Personally, in my experience (i have Aboriginal siblings, friends and ex'es) many Aboriginal people use the term "Indian" to describe themselves and others without negative connotation. But never have I heard them use the word Redskin. I've never heard the term used, outside of sports, in a non-offensive way. Have you? Do you ever have conversations with people where you discuss "Redskins"? I doubt it. Why not? We both know why. My opinion doesnt make me right. And you're assertion that I think Im right is not a reasonable counter argument.

Go ahead and lock it Rich. As tiresome and stupid as this inane argument is, Im not going to relent to someone forcing a silly argument on me. I've made my point. I consider the matter closed. And if Ducky wants to keep debating a silly idea like trading Myers there are other threads to do so. -

Myers is. Do some research. I get it, my apologies....what you said is not what you meant....gotcha. Its absolutely what I mean. All salaries must fit under the cap. Myers' contract is the best under the cap. You're trying to score points on semantics because you didnt realise his contract paid him less cash than his yearly average cap hit. Its okay to be wrong. And you knew I was arguing his contract was good and you argued it wasnt. You were wrong. But you argue with me rather than the person who called you a troll because you're trying to be difficult and deliberately obtuse. You were wrong on Myers' contract You were wrong on Myers' value to the Jets You are wrong on which D should be traded if one has to be. Sorry you're so wrong. It happens sometimes. -
Game 9 : Kings @ Jets
The Unknown Poster replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
Salary is more important than cap hit for a budget team. Cap hit really only matters when you are close to the cap which the Jets most certainly are not. We might be in the next year or two though with Buff, Ladd, Trouba, & Scheifele all due for raises. If so Myers' contract is even more important because it means they have a top D pairing for less than market value cash-wise and can use an extra $2 million and allocate that to someone like Ladd or Buff. I'd suspect part of the delay with Ladd is Chevy's planning out the budget for the next few years. Chipman has said they have forcasts and it comes down to where they slot a guy salary-wise and they have projections years into the future on that. So Myers being on a decent contract even if his cap hit and salary were the same with the added bonus of providing a few re-capture bucks for someone else, makes things easier. I think if they re-sign Buff it will mean they try and get Trouba on a bridge deal of 2-3 years before locking him in. He's not having a top D year so far so it might be difficult for both sides to agree on an 8 year contract. Bridge deal, see if he turns into the player we think he can and then max him out on his next contract. That buys some time for Buff too. Lowry shouldnt be difficult to resign. If Scheif continues to make noise as a 1B center, his contract will be very interesting. -

Just a correction. He did not medal at the Pan Am Games I can't even find anything that says he qualified). He did compete at the Pan Am Greco-Roman Championships which is a much different and smaller event , but he never medalled. In 97 he finished 5th, and he competed again in 98 but finished no higher than 4th (I can only find the medals winners for this year). There were no championships in 1999 due to the Pan Am games in Winnipeg, and if he competed in 2000, then he did not medal again in this year. You're right. Wiki is wrong. He placed 4th at the Pan Am Games which I assume is out of medal contention. -

I thought it was Triple H who told Angle the WWE is not interested? Angle called Vince. Vince told him Hunter makes all personnel decisions now. Angle called Hunter. Hunter said we're not interested. Angle called Vince back and Vince deferred. There was some heat on Angle for "going over Hunter's head". Realistically, the call is still Vince's but they are making it seem like Hunter's call as part of his training to take over for Vince. Same thing with Del Rio. Hunter was the one who fired him and the one who re-hired him but Vince has to okay it. Especially at the price they paid. Regarding Angle, Vince was the one who made the call to fire him when Angle refused to go to rehab. And his opinion is they cant risk something bad happening to an Olympic Gold Medalist on their watch as the PR nightmare would be a killer. I dont know how Hunter would feel if Vince wasnt around. And Vince might change his mind eventually if rating continue to slide. Hunter once sabotaged Angle a bit. When they did the love triangle with Steph and the story was designed where Steph would go with Angle and the fans wanted it and Hunter said "Triple H is not the type of character that his woman would leave for another man". -

I preferred his back cracker/low super kick combo to the arm bar. Problem with submissions now a days is fans are too exposed to ufc and can tell when a submission is fake especially when it's a move like an arm bar He also used a double foot stomp as a finish this week. But really every guy should have a key pin finish and submission finish and one or two secondary spots they get over. Speaking of old guys doing MMA there have been rumors of Angle vs Shamrock. I don't think it will happen but I do think the money offer would be good enough that Angle might consider it for a minute. Angle's strong desire is a return to wwe. Vince is stubbornly opposed however. -

Not wrong. You kept pushing Myers cap hit versus others and I correctly pointed out that he had a diminishing cash value and a great contrac. You retorted with the above post asking who was cap friendly. That wasn't the point at all But Myers contract is cap friendly. Being cap friendly isn't just about the actual cap since the jets arento a cap team. Cash is more important. Why on earth would it benefit the jets to trade a higher cap but lower cash for a lower cap but higher cash and how is that cap friendly? A contract like Myers is cap friendly because It frees up cAsh for other players. You didn't seem to know that Myers contract diminished yearly or if you did you didn't seem to understand the importance. Point made. No apology needed. -

The Unknown Poster replied to FrostyWinnipeg's topic in Winnipeg Jets Discussion
What was I wrong about? You kept mentioning Myers cap hit but as pointed out to you he he a unique contract with a very helpful diminishing cash value. You didn't know that.I wasn't the only one to point that out to you. And you don't seem to put value on it. Then again you don't seem to put value on talent either so it's a rather moot point. Tyler Myers is the type of player with the type of contract you don't look to trade. You're fully entitled to a different opinion but you'd be soundly in the minority. you were wrong in assuming his cap hit wasn't 5.5m per year and assuming I didn't know what his salary/cap hit is/was. Why can't you admit when you are wrong? His game was average today but what the hell is wrong with Trouba? Buff was the best RHD today. edit: The caphit stays the same in 99% of contracts even though the yearly salary can change... his yearly salary is good but his cap hit isn't. I never said his cap hit wasn't $5.5. His real cash value isn't that. That was my point. I have long been touting the brilliance of getting Myers due to his contract so I wouldn't make that mistake. However if I did say cap instead of cash I would certainly admit I mis typed. But I don't believe tjay to be the case and don't care enough to look. Why don't you admit you're wrong? -

Petan gets more minutes if there are more PP's but I agree he would benefit from more ice time. But it's at a premium on the jets right now. If they felt he really needed more minutes they'd send him to the Moose. So I guess we trust the coaching staff on this one. Id love to see him on a top six line once on a while just to see what he can do. But he's young. His time will come. With Ladd unsigned it's never a bad thing having a guy like Petan ready to move up. -

Not to mention Myers was widely considered a top top get for any team inquiring last year. Everyone knew he would be traded and was considered a top prize. I would suspect Buff signing means we have these three RHD for many years to come. Trouba and Myers are Going nowhere unless one demands a trade. -

Yes and I never said he was Brock Lesnar. But as far as legit guys in the WWE goes he's be considered one of the toughest. My point was Vince might see him as a good fit for Brock because he could work stiff and it would have a certain appeal to shoot fight fans who are also wrestling fans. The mainstream press could be made to draw some legit interest. Much the same Angle would. Angle is a bigger name in wrestling and shoot fighting but never did MMA whereas Del Rio has. Regardless of his MMA detsils, I wouldn't want to fight Del Rio!
