  1. That's not what happened with Pall though. He was injured during TC and the Stamps didn't want to put him on their IR. They released him and told him to come back when his injury healed. He signed with Montreal and they put him on their IR. Not entirely. The Stamps had a handshake deal that they would take care of his rehab costs in Calgary where they could keep tabs on his progression. There was some thought that by putting him on the 9 game IR (it was 1 or 9 game at the time) they'd have to use one of their recall passes to get him back on the roster vs leaving him off and then being able to add him directly. He took a IR spot in Montreal over the uncertainty of the Calgary handshake. Several NCAA Pro Days are that same weekend. UNLV is as well which means Shaq Lawrence likely won't be in Toronto either.
  2. Just to summarize: If a CFL team drafts a player they hold their rights. If they sign that player and bring them to training camp, they must be released to return to CIS which makes them a free agent. Many players have a handshake deal in mind that they'll return to their team but history shows us that it doesn't always go that way (Ameet Pall who Calgary released to add to their PR signed with Montreal a day later). So Mike is right that they could put him on their neg list to hold rights but not many Canadians end up on the neg list. It would be nice to see CFL players retain rights in some form (similar to the NHL with junior players) after sending their guys back to CIS. It does blur the lines of amateurism but their should be some way to do it.
  3. Didn't Everett go to training camp last year? If he did then he was released to return to CIS and then a free agent unless they have re-signed him since the end of the CIS season. Anybody have the list of transactions?
  4. Crazy that the FCS Championship ended up with two school from the same conference. They didn't meet during the season so were co-champions, both 1 loss schools and then found their way to Frisco, Texas for the big showdown.
  5. Must be that Manitoba boom I keep hearing about.
  6. You pay plumbers that don't work for you? Sounds like you need a better general contractor.
  7. A non-guaranteed contract for a guy that spent 3 years playing against NFL competition day after day; played 12 NFL pre-season games; started 38 consecutive games at Baylor; started a full season at JuCo. If he can play at RT then he's a bargain, if he plays at center or guard like a veteran then he's basically earning a vet salary from the get go. If he can't play any of those positions then he'll be released like a plumber that didn't do the job right. Big contracts in football are so different than in other sports which really propelled it's popularity in the US. The fact that a mistake can get you fired and fans aren't stuck with the player for 3 or 4 or 5 more years with a big price tag. Blue collar guys being paid like white collar guys.
  8. Somebody on twitter brought up the idea of Lamport Stadium last night. It's a 9,600 seat stadium that is home to the Canadian Men's National Rugby team now. It's only a few blocks from BMO.
  9. Both Ohio State and Alabama had 3 turnovers. Ohio State turned one into a Pick 6. Elliott had 2 runs that were at the time the longest play from scrimmage given up by Alabama all year. The difference maker in the game was the big plays. Ohio State made them and Alabama couldn't when they needed them. Ezekiel Elliott had runs of 54 and 85 yards. Devin Smith's 47 yard TD catch and run. Steve Miller 41 yard Pick 6. A receiver throwing a TD pass to finish the first half. The Tyvis Powell INT down at the goalline was a killer for Alabama.
  10. They do have a club team at Vanderbilt and a team down at University of Alabama-Huntsville which isn't too far away.
  11. I grew up as a Calgary Wranglers fan and when they left town was pretty devastated. Adjusted to Jr. A hockey and supported the Calgary Canucks a lot before moving out of Calgary. Love both games with their different styles. Down south there isn't junior level hockey in Nashville but their is a quality high school league there and the State Championship game is played in Bridgestone Arena. One day they'll find another Tennessee NHLer and it'll be fun to watch!
  12. Photos from the event. Very impressed with the facility. http://topprospects.ca/blog/best-action-shots-ecs-manitoba
  13. He sure is. Great player that hopefully gets an honest chance next year in East Lansing.
  14. Merry Christmas! http://jessicaridley.com/Christmas.html
  15. Went through the remaining Bowl games and listed off the Canadians left to play (or at least their schools will play in a few cases) http://blog.ridleyscouting.com/Kent_Ridley_Thoughts/My_Thoughts/Entries/2014/12/24_Canadians_Left_in_Bowl_Games.html
  16. Had 103 kids out for the camp in Winnipeg. That facility at the U of Winnipeg is AWESOME! Great to see a full length field like that with fantastic staff helping us out. We'll be back for next year!
  17. Just wanted to bump this up as with 115 kids signed up for the event tomorrow I'm sure some of you have connections to some of them. Track me down afterwards!
  18. Myself and TBieber happened to be on the same football field this past Saturday. You can even find him in the photos here - http://topprospects.ca/blog/ecs-saskatchewan-moose-jaw-mvps/
  19. They also worked together at Cal too. I think Tedford & Cortez had a falling out. He either left or was fired by Tedford. I don't think it ended nicely. Yeah that still is interesting. Cortez 'left to pursue an NFL job' and wound up taking the Riders OL Coach vacancy. Cal went through a few OCs during that time period. It's a tough gig to try and stay on top of a Power 5 conference. Why didn't you bring this up today?

Best answer for a telemarketer is a teething baby. When my oldest was a couple months old I had a guy call 3 times in a night and finally the last time I just put the phone in the cradle with her screaming at the top of her lungs. That got us off the list for a few years.
  21. As good a reason as any to pick up a team outside the home region. Butch Jones is a great coach and that staff is the hardest working recruiters they've had for a while. They pulled 5 or 6 kids out of middle Tennessee alone that should be All-SEC Freshman team members come next year.
  22. Anybody coming out to the EliteCombineSeries.com event in Winnipeg next weekend? Just wondering if there's anybody to meet off the board at the event. Hoping to hit up Famous Dave BBQ the 22nd too.
  23. Vols??? How'd you get to be a Vols fan?
  24. Hey Deuvl you want me to check on your Bomber season tickets next week?
