  1. His size is a major hurdle. We've seen many top CIS receivers of the same size and ilk with better stats get bypassed on Draft day. (Kevin Costner trademark not withstanding) The CIS all time record holder for receptions is CA Sinotte with 251 career receptions, no CFL options.
  2. Sorry Jets fans. You guys ran into the fierce Preds machine tonight. A healthy Pekka Rinne is the best goalie in the world right now. Imagine if stupid Chris Higgins hadn't tried to run him through the end boards? Anyhow, it's a perfect storm in Nashville this year with a roster featuring a lot of chemistry amongst the vets, a solid group of defenders and the emergence of Forsberg. 3 teams in non-traditional markets are sitting in the top 5 (albeit Anaheim and Tampa have had success in the past I still call them non-trad markets).
  3. Great hire. Barron is a quality human being.
  4. Wasn't a sell out but still 52,000+ for the game. 8,000 more than Regina had the year before. Pricing has as much to do with it as the buzz. Much like the Touchdown Atlantic games they've priced themselves out of average fan territory.
  5. In the last 12 years Vancouver has hosted it three times and the world didn't end. There is a lot of debate over how much a CFL franchise is worth. The Flames bought 70% of the Stampeders for $16million. I'd suggest that the Argos are worth more than $10million. Unless there's some deal in the works to assume some old debts or some structuring like that.
  6. In talking with him today he will be at the Toronto Regional Combine as well as the Michigan State Pro Day. CFL scouts will be at the Michigan State Pro Day to see Matt Rea, James Bodanis for sure. Gives them an extra edge on seeing what they can do. Both are heavy on potential and upside but low on on field film.
  7. I guess this basically summarizes... but I'm wondering if Rids can provide a comparable or where he projects to be drafted?? Too early to judge where to place him in the draft, I need more info. He's got a lot of options as he originally went to Penn as a DL and played as a freshman there. Transferred to Michigan State and also shifted to offense. As a blocker he's a throw back fullback. Makes great plays on the linebackers to open up running lanes. If a coach was interested in running a big formation especially in red zone moments he'd fit right into that. On the plus side I'll have an interview with him in the Guide.
  8. Here it is: http://blog.ridleyscouting.com/Kent_Ridley_Thoughts/My_Thoughts/Entries/2015/1/29_Lots_of_Movement.html What do you think his pro potential is? Is he a guy who could possibly be a competent starter in a few years? Yes, based on potential shown in the past. A year on the PR should move him closer to game ready. He should challenge for a 46 man roster spot. Kind of like Brett Carter last year? Would you agree with a Stoddard or Hargreaves comparison? Based on potential I think he could be a Shawn Gore type. Good hands, runs the routes properly. I think that Watson will have the better 2015 but come 2016 that will be the real comparison year.

  11. It's much more than that. True there are a lot of coaches looking for work or looking for an upgrade. Position coaches looking for co-ordinator openings, college coaches looking for position jobs and head coaches looking to fill out their staff. There's also scouts looking for front office jobs and scouting directors looking to fill their scouting staff. But that's only a portion of it all. Separate from that is the players. While the top guys are NFL bound and likely heading for a long career there are many players there that will not get drafted. It's a great chance to see guys side by side. Having film is a great thing but let's take a guy like Bryan Bennett who was given a shot at QB when Nick Marshall moved over to cornerback. Southeastern Louisiana played a schedule with schools like Incarnate Word so even though he had a little history at Oregon they haven't seen him against top cornerbacks. He's not NFL bound so the CFL guys were just as interested in seeing what he can do. Likewise many of the offensive linemen are going to be available for CFL teams in a year or two. It's a great time to pick up notes for the future.
  12. Rids is in Mobile maybe somehow he can give us some info. If Rids decides to move there, would he have to get a Mobile home? I did not see Coach Hall there in Mobile. Coach O'Shea was there along with front office staff - Danny McManus, Ted Goveia, Drew Morris and Kyle Walters. Yes I would get a Mobile home! Being 5 minutes from the beach is a great thing!!! Hopefully more like this: Than this...:
  13. Desjardins and Rick Campbell weren't in Mobile for Senior Bowl week. I haven't watched them all but guessing there won't be a Hamilton one either as they didn't get there until after Naylor left town. I didn't see Tom Higgins or Jim Popp either this year.
  14. Make sure you're watching today's Senior Bowl. Tyler Varga is competing against some of the best NCAA talent. Currently at 2 carries for 11 yards.
  15. Just the other day I was sent a calendar that outlined the best days to release news. It'd be interesting to see that matched up with how CFL teams do their media releases. Generally putting things out there Thursday and Friday from 1pm to 3pm Central time things will get better responses than at any other time during the week (until people get onto this and flood those days with info and then it'll switch again). Very interesting stuff: http://www.tubefilter.com/2015/01/12/best-days-times-to-post-youtube-videos-yearly-calendar/
  16. This is how you recruit. Nebraska making a push in all corners.
  17. There is a thought to that of course however my eventual goal would be to use 4 of my 7 mandated Canadian starters on the OL so continuing to stock up on guys with a future there would fit that goal. That's my personal strategy. Talking Bombers in particular: Winnipeg finished the year with Canadians starting like this: 2 R; LG, C, RG; DT, CB Based on that alone I would say the targets of Jacob Ruby, Sukh Chung, Dillon Guy, Campbell Allison, Eddie Meredith for the OL and Daryl Waud, Kristian Lawrence and Jacob LeBlanc at DT. It also brings in the idea of Matt Isherwood or Chris Ackie for depth at the CB spot. Another idea for the 4th or 5th round would be getting a Canadian to long snap. Tanner Doll or Dan MacDonald become targets there. Aaron Gazendam would be an idea for the 4th round if they're looking for a big receiver at that point of the draft. The big three will be long gone but I could see Aaron still hanging around about pick #35. Would not surprise me to see the Bombers finish up with 3 OL and a DL from their picks this year. http://www.buffalobillsdraft.com/2015/01/2015-east-west-shrine-game-notes-day-1/
  18. Well I'd say that his value has increased but it's just a representation of how deep the position group is this year. Jamie Wandell was a top 5 high school recruit going to Saint Mary's 4 years ago and he'll likely be the 12th or 13th OL drafted. (his story is unique unto itself but that's for another post) Truthfully there's just that many names this year. In the chaos of it all there's always the CFL-esque flipside where having so many OL available in the draft will actually push a few of these guys down the list because teams will know the gap between OL #5 and OL #8 isn't very big compared to the drop from WR #4 to WR #5 or the steps from RB #3 to RB #4 to RB #5.
  19. Quinn Everett was a 6th Round 47th overall pick in 2014 and went through much of the evaluation period as a DL. I suspect that given both his growth into the OG position and the depth of this year's group of offensive linemen that he'd likely be selected in the same neighborhood. Somewhere around 45th overall. There's a lot of OL this year that in many years would be top 40 selections and will drop out of that this year. Maybe as many as 18 OL drafted this year and maybe 30 total linemen taken out of the 63 selections.
  20. Several reasons why I prefer him, the biggest being experience. Jacob made 46 consecutive starts on the Richmond offensive line in 47 total games there. Plus redshirted a year there and played two seasons at Fork Union. So comparing the two directly Jacob has prepared for 65 to 70 games since high school while Danny Groulx's number should be 46 games at the post-secondary level even with his multiple trips to the Vanier Cup. He also played as a tight end his first year at Fork Union and was All-State so he's got the edge athletically.
  21. I have done that in the past on my website, this year I'm trying to change the draft part of the site to make reading it easier. Need to change from iWeb which is so limiting but easy to use over to WordPress. I'm not a big fan of WordPress but I think I can tailor it to make searching for things easier.
  22. That's a tough question. I'd probably first look to trade down a couple spots. If I could get the #5 or 6 pick plus a WR prospect that I liked I'd make that deal. If I was stuck with #2 & #11 this is what I'd do: #2 - Jacob Ruby (OT, Richmond) or Daryl Waud (DT, Western) based on who impressed the most during the evaluation session. At this point leaning towards Waud based on his potential to play DT or OG vs Ruby's potential to play OG or RT. #11 - Campbell Allison (OL, EMU). Campbell started at every position on the line and potentially could even be a Bomben type that could line up as a TE in goalline situations. #20 - Chris Ackie (DB, Laurier). I'm not totally sold on this pick yet but he's a talent and would not be out of place at the 20th pick. If I could get another pick in the top 15 then I'd look at Blair Smith (LB, Angelo State).
  23. Manziel would've been amazing as a Las Vegas Posse member. Probably would've ended with a Posse chasing him down...
