  1. Recognition factor so far : Gbill - 3 Mike -1
  2. I agree with you that the Ducks could very well win the Cup based on the lineup and game style that they play. Very avant-garde in their forechecking techniques. I must say I was waiting for this series to start and was amazed by how the Ducks totally man-handled the Flames (who had totally man-handled the Canucks). That 1st game was an eye opener for Calgary. These aren't the Mighty Ducks of Disney. It puts into perspective how well the Jets played against a very good team and brings thoughts of what could have happened with a healthier line-up.
  3. Well, you kinda are. With many roster changes, on O, there could be a 'settling time' not related to schemes, but I do get what you're saying about MB. Not known as a force, as an OC, he does have to step it up. But, here's the thing, last year, the O did look like a functioning machine before the wheels fell off. The Offence moved the ball very well in the opening 3rd of the season and looked good in doing it. Now who can say specifically where and when it fell apart? RB? Scheme? Injuries? O-line? Coaching?Lots of areas to spread the blame. But I did see improvement in the O when the wheels were still on. Many roster changes? Bryant and Picard will not have a 'learning curve'... Neither will Willy, Moore, Denmark, Kohlert, Cotton... The wheels fell off because MB went increasingly conservative and max protect on his schemes. Lots of times he set Willy up last year from what I saw. Anyway, we'll find out soon enough. So we're set at the other 2 positions on the O line, aside from Greaves? The RBs are determined? No new receivers? And don't forget, the O's field position is partially determined by the D and there will be changes there. The new punting rules? Field position. So yes, roster changes. Yes, MB changed his Offence, but if you were watching last year, it was out of necessity, not choice. It didn't work.

  5. 1/4 of the cap is now tied up in QB and OL, Bob Wylie is full time now... if there's a problem now, its on MB's schemes. This must be the earliest an OC has been thrown under the bus. Then again, we did have Crowton.
  6. The contract being done now just shows the parties involved are aware of the necessities of getting this deal done now. And in pretty much the same vein, they will have structured this contract in a way that makes sense..for everybody. Well not everyTBbody, but those who can see it for what it's worth. No horror show, nor distractions to be worried about all year. What am I saying? Every time Willy has a bad throw, int. or gets sacked, I'm sure we'll hear about THAT bloody contract.
  7. Ouch, takes a shot at poor old Alex. Sometimes, though the pun is right there, it's sometimes better left unsaid...The immortal Alex Brinks may not be fair game for you KBF, but I have no problem bringing up his name in jest. Said.
  8. I agree that for those reasons all our QBs should look better this year - but no reason to roll up the Brinks truck for Willy yet. The only Brinks truck they will roll up for Willy is the one Alex left behind when he was released from our roster.
  9. The risk is we still have Wally Buono and Marcel Desjardins in our league. Could very well be, these two teams will be looking for a new QB next year. Maybe even Montreal. Has Durant recovered sufficiently to carry on? How about Ed Hervey? Do you trust him? Too may questions, too many little birds whispering in players' ears. I look at Willy as being a character guy. Would he allow full understanding to invade his decisions and refrain from turning his back on a team that turned their backs on him? Hmmm... Make the deal..who wants to play Russian roulette with our starting QB?
  10. …………Shortsightedness………….it's a terrible affliction.
  11. This, right here, is the old Winnipeg thinking…all the way, and should be expunged from our thinking.
  12. Give him boost in base pay and then back fill with incentives. If meeting completion %, TDs,int, yard, wins, goals he gets a bonus and maxes out at 400-500k great. Little risk and great rewards. Less reward for willy, but if he believes he is an elite qb and will have a great couple of years then it's a win for him. You don't pay 120k for a crown Victoria hoping or believing it's going to transform into a jaguar becuase u upgrade the rims, tires and intake (ol, receivers, coaching)
  13. Is that a guess, or is there info out there somewhere that supports this? I don't agree or disagree, I just wonder if it's accurate. There have always been small defensemen. It's not a new phenomena in today's NHL. It just feels right, and you can take that to the bank. One of the smaller banks I would assume.
  14. Why on earth would we snub our potential future starting QB and hope it will all "work out next year"? Really? You want to walk that balance beam of futility because you want him to be proven instead of believing he will be. If they kept a stat for a team's poor QB rating based on the QBs they had over the years, we be in last place by a mile. I don't want chance going back there again. Pay him a good deal and move on. I would find it hard to believe that when they traded for Willy, they didn't have a good idea what the sliding pay scale would be for him...starting this year. They knew they would have to up the ante and I'd be very surprised if all figures weren't bandied about...including FA.
  15. The True North chant is unique. It is totally applicable and it is entirely Winnipeg's. It is something you should roll with as long as you can. It is not anywhere near being close to Rider-like. For one thing, they don't know the meaning of originality.
  16. Harrumph to the anti-Peach crowd. All's the guy did was put in a stalwart effort, game in game out, got a respectible number of sacks and a good D-line total of tackles...all in a putrid system. He should be acknowledged, not ho-hummed. He will be like any other player on the Bombers. If he cannot make the grade, he will be replaced. He, at least, should be given the same chance and consideration on this board.
  17. Hockey and curling are nice distractions, in the winter, to fill a long off-season from what truly counts...the Bomber season. (And I'm pretty passionate about hockey and curling.)
  18. Doan is the epitome of a team player...if he's invested in that team. I can think of no finer example. But why would he even feel invested in this team, in that way? He's got 1 year left of hockey, I would agree. Unless Doan himself, promotes this idea...I would pass. Maybe if the Jets were 'that close' to a deep run, but it wouldn't do much..other than disrupt what they are building towards now. We gotta let him go.
  19. Of course, that would prompt the necessary name change from Ducky to Flamey.
  20. There's no way MB leaves Mb. They are all in this year for sure. I've come to see that an OC can be a genius one year...and not so much the next year. Why's that? Talent? Circumstance? Injuries? Predictable? All's I know is that the O we saw at the beginning of the year, last year, is closer to th O I want to see this year....and more of it.
  21. Bye-foog-lie-in is a force. That cannot be denied. The equation becomes whether the value is there over a long period of time. In other words, is his value worth more than say, 3 years? Or can we get more value in a trade, because he is worth something now? It makes sense to keep him one more year, but that doesn't factor in with his contract...unless it works at the trade deadline. But that's also risky. I'm not really convinced that Byfuglien and Ladd would be considered on the same level of worth. After hearing Maurice talk about Ladd - he's not going anywhere. I missed the convo on #33, so I'm not sure of him.
  22. Bye-foog-lie-in, is an enigma. He's the kind of guy you really want to get behind and cheer for. Go Buff Go. But he also is the kind of guy that can make you cringe at some of his lapses. He's exciting to watch as he shrugs off checks with the ease of, well, a shrug. But disappointing as well, when he bashes a neck from behind...at the wrong time. Short term, I can see him here...but not long term. Too much for too little. We'll get a much better handle on this, this summer, and, IMO, If this is the time to move him, Chevy will do so.
  23. According to our history, it will be easy enough to find someone to scathe.
