And why would anyone event want to make Luke a "non golden boy" anyway?  Ridiculous.  Sure, Yoda went into exile, which was sort of stupid but we could at least buy that the Jedi were defeated by the Sith and Yoda's plan for eventual victory relied on being around to train Luke and/or Leia.  Even if we buy Luke was so distraught over Ben that he'd want to exile himself, he'd never, ever abandon his sister and the cause to The First Order.  He just wouldn't.  And unlike Yoda, there was no plan to lie in wait for the next "Chosen One".  It just made no sense.

Rian's lack of interest in Snoke...he clearly got a kick out of just killing the bad guy with no explanation and thats what really brought the story down like a house of cards.  TFA set up some really interesting stories that hinted at connections to the Saga (Snoke, who is Rey, where is Luke etc).  Rian crapped on all of them.

The idea of Snoke as Darth Plagius might seem too much like fan servicing, but the idea worked because it connected the sequels, in a way, to the prequels.  For me, the problem with the story is, Episodes 1-6 are one story and 7-9 dont seem to fit at all.  If the happy ending of Jedi is being negated, you have to tell us why & how.

Exactly.  Yoda had a purpose of being in exile.  He was too old and would never be able to get close to Palpatine again.  So he was waiting for Luke or Leia.  The only reason I don't place TFA below the prequals is because it actually had decent acting (except for Hux, who Rian turned into a total buffoon for his shitty plotline).

Yeah, I would totally sign on for this.  It will never happen but I'd sign on for it.  That movie was just butchered IMO.  There are good moments, but ultimately the characters just didn't act like themselves.  I mean, who sits there sulking by themselves for 6 years?  Someone who was the beacon of hope in his youth, and he just chucks it away and doesn't even try and help his own sister?  That's not Luke.  I get what Rian was trying to do by saying that he wasn't the golden boy everyone thought he was.  Except that he was.  We saw the films.  They are canon.  And he was as amazing as he seemed.  Yes, the Jedi became egotistical, but he should have been the change.

I had a feeling Rian was going to wreck the movie.  I never did like Looper that much and was weary them giving a director with barely anything under his belt this large franchise.

I think part of it is the identity of what they want these films to be.  A young Solo film always struck me as a bad idea because you have to replicate what Harrison Ford brought to the character.  The casting was poor.  I didnt hate Aiden and Im sure some of it was how he was directed but nothing about him seemed familiar as Solo.  Whereas Anthony Ingruber would have been really fun to see in the role because he seems so much more like a young Ford.

I think the anthology films that take place during the saga should be in support of the saga.  Like Rogue One.  Solo was so far removed from the saga, it just...I dont know, it didnt seem to tell us anything.  And I think they chickened out on showing us a truly rogue-ish unprincipled Han which was hinted at in A New Hope.  Han in Solo seemed as much of a good guy as he did in Return of the jedi.  Then you've got the issue of fans buying Solo having a love of his life that isnt Leia.   That love story just isnt going to work.

I think the story would have worked better if Han was more of a bad guy, maybe gets pulled into something where he helps the good guys but purely for monetary gain.  He can even be implored to join the rebels and he blows it off saying there is nothing that would ever get him into that fight.   Have him be a womanizer who sleeps around, breaking hearts and saying simply he'd never stay in one place and would never fall in love.  Show us a character that is so different that the incredible circumstances he finds himself in in A New Hope is what changes him.

Just remember, this is him at the beginning of his career.  He's just starting to become a rogue, and we see at the end of Solo when he shoots Woody's character without a second thought that he's going down that path.  I think there plan was to make more then one Solo movie and show how he turns into the jaded smuggler we know.

  4. I don't think it's star wars burn out.  I think it's more what happened in the Last Jedi and people losing faith in Lucasfilm.  I mean, they had a chance to make the Last Jedi amazing and they blew it.  Also, going back in time and changing the actors that are playing characters that have become beloved to most, a lot of people don't want their image of Han ruined (not that this ruined it).  And for some, the whole director change up and reshooting.  That killed it for them.  If they hadn't have had to reshoot most of the movie, I'm sure they would have made some money from this.

I really liked the movie, I thought it was way more entertaining than TLJ, and I hope they get to do a continuation to it (whether it's a Solo movie or something different).

You do need shaving cream with that. Maybe that's why you're getting nicked up.

"I'm trying to get rid of the old regular razor now and shaving cream"

The word old implies both razor and shaving cream.  Of course I'm using shaving cream for shaving.  But I used the old style brush on kind and oiled up before hand.

I dont use it anymore but.. The best closest shave i ever got was from a knife like thing my grampa used to use... Super old school... likely b4 cartridge razors were a thing even. Best Shave ever.

Def been looking at moving on from the current piles of crap.

You're probably talking about a straight razor:

They're talking about a safety razor:

I've switched to safety razors as well.  Just bought mine off of Amazon.  I do get nicked a bit more with it, but I'm just starting.  I'm trying to get rid of the old regular razor now and shaving cream.

  7. They should have left Star Wars in December.  Too much going out during the summer.  Also, they spent way more money on it then they wanted because of the director switch which means they're losing more money then normal.

I was hoping the Alden Ehrenreich (had to look it up) would do a better Solo than he did. I was constantly reminding myself that he was Han Solo. Not the end of the world, though, I just never believed it.  Not like Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan.

RE: Maul - Do you think they have an Obi Wan movie, post Revenge of the Sith, where Obi Wan tracks down Maul? That would be crazy. I love it.

    Spoiler

No that won't happen.  In Rebels (which is canon) they showed how he dies at the hands of Obi-Wan.  So I don't think this and the Obi-Wan film will have anything to do with each other unless they just rehash him killing him.  It wasn't anything spectacular.

Every  IT person must be watching Silicon Valley.... the show is absolutely hilarious.

I've only watched one episode so far.  It was ok.  Haven't gotten around to watching more yet.

Been twice and never again. The food is awful and the shows are lame. For the price of a ticket, I could go get at least five or six regular shawarmas at SK. Way more enjoyable.

Same.  I went a few times years ago, but the food has always sucked and the shows were very meh.  We've never been back.

Thanks.  Very interesting way of doing it.  I mean, if they want to do something different, this is it I guess.  What they plan on doing with Leia though, I don't know, as it does sound like she plays a big part in this, if it's real.

A reddit user claims to have seen a very early story board for Episode 9.  Apparently he also saw an early story board for The Last Jedi an got it right so...take it as you choose.

    Personally, this sounds dreadful

Clarification needed (and I saw the movie twice over the weekend) - AND THIS WILL EXPLICITLY DISCUSS A PLOT POINT, SO DON"T CONTINUE READING IF YOU WANT TO BE SURPRISED********YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED:

The Infinity gaunlet looks fried on Thanos' hand after, you know....., but with the stones intact. He then teleports (or transports, or bifrosts. or whatever you call it) to another part of the universe. The first time I thought he left the now destroyed gauntlet behind, the second time not so sure, was looking for it on his hand, did not see clearly, but no evidence it was still on earth. So 2 questions - 1) Was it destroyed (thinking no if he was able to transport, unless he could do that without the gauntlet anyway), and more importantly 2) Did it go with him or is it still on earth after Thanos left it behind (if it was broken, no need to take it in his mind). It is key to know this for the next movie, if my plot prediction (discussed below) is correct.

Overall, I liked it. Quite the gut punch at the end for sure, but I am not as stunned as others were. Maybe too jaded by the knowledge that comic books never really kill their characters for good, and the easy out this storyline can take (also knowing how the comic book series did so) which I will elaborate on below.

It seems clear *****AGAIN DISCUSSING KEY PLOT POINT, TURN AWAY NOW OR READ AT YOUR PERIL******* I WILL BE VERY DETAILED HERE, SO READING MORE WILL DEFINITELY SPOIL THINGS IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET, I CAN"T GIVE ANY BETTER WARNING THAN THAT************STOP NOW, OR WITHHOLD ALL WHINING THAT I RUINED IT FOR YOU*******: that Dr. Strange, having seen all possible outcomes and knowing that this outcome was the only way to win, was always prepared to give up the time stone rather than destroy it (neither option is really protecting it, which was his duty, unless of course he knew he could get it back later, and had to get it up short term to ultimately protect it long-term), was always prepared to let Quill intervene to ruin things when they had the chance to take the gauntlet off, and must have known that Thanos would use the time stone to alter the future to re-collect the mind stone when it seemed lost. So he saw the ultimate outcome of the conclusion of this movie, saying it was the only way. But that is not winning, obviously (at least short-term). Also, one has to wonder if it is possible for him to see into the future beyond his own death? I would think not, so he must know he can be resurrected, and therefore I'm not really worried about who died, it's likely all temporary (as proved possible already by Thanos in getting back the mind stone). It begs the question, since the time stone could have been destroyed beforehand to prevent the reversal of time and the re-creation of the mind stone, and Strange did not choose that option, then does he know that Thanos can actually never be beaten, and that he would have continued on his quest to wipe out half the universe until he succeeded, so the only way to "win" was to let Thanos think he succeeded, and then reverse time quietly while Thanos sits alone in his corner of the universe satisfied that he has restored balance, rather than killing Thanos or destroying the stones? Hence my original question about the state of the gauntlet (since the forge is operational and has a mould of it already, and Thor has a bifrost axe to transport him back there). If Thanos still has it and the stones, that makes things a bit more tricky than if it was left on Earth, but the ultimate solution of re-build and reverse time seems obvious for the second movie to have that happy ending. Plus, from Marvel's marketing and distribution standpoint, after clearing $1.3 billion on Black Panther, and having all the original actors' (Downey, Hemsworth and Evans I believe)contracts expiring, the choice of who lived and who died seems entirely opposite to what the studio would need on a go-forward basis to keep milking this cash cow into Phase 4. Who wants to bet that Avengers 4 is titled Infinity Wars: Resurrection (especially since the studio hid the name of Avengers 4 prior to release of this movie because it itself was a spoiler)?

    Any thoughts?

Wow that's a lot.  But I'll try and answer.

Infinity Gauntlet, although partially wrecked, is still intact and is in Thanos' possession.  He did not leave it on earth.  He uses the Space Stone to transport himself where ever he wants.  You don't see it on him at the end because it's probably sitting in his house, and he doesn't need it anymore.

There is going to be a Black Panther 2, Dr. Strange 2, Spiderman 2, Guardians 3, etc... so obviously those characters aren't dead.  And you are probably correct, that is what Dr. Strange had to do in order for the good guys to eventually win.  Gamora, Loki, Heimdall...they're dead.  But those who vanished, they're not dead.  I also think Vision is going to be alive after once they repair him, but he won't be the same as he was before.  They'll probably follow the storyline of when he got destroyed and Pym put him back together, but he ended up being emotionless.

In the next movie, you'll probably see those who "survived" end up either retiring or getting killed off.  So mostly the original Avengers group.  And I'm wondering if Hawkeye will take over the team or something like he did in West Coast Avengers comic book.  Just speculation.  I'm thinking Hemsworth will stay on.  I know Taika said he wants to direct the next Thor movie, so either he lives and is in it, or they switch it to a female Thor like in the comics.  Not sure about Banner and the rest.  But I"m guessing Cap and IM will bite the bullet in order to save the universe.

    Hopefully that answers your questions.

OMG. That was incredible. So good. That was Thanos' movie. I'm seeing it again tomorrow night.

The characters they killed. :o (Like really, legit killed, not to come back in the next movie or in their own)

The ability to get so much narrative and story into a movie packed with action. Incredible.

I have no glaring issues with the movie.

Yeah, that first 5 minutes was like....wtf did I just watch?!?!

But yeah, that was totally Thanos' movie.  I saw it twice over the weekend.
