  1. I don't see Lions winning this. Bighill is their MLB now. and Solomon will be back next year.
  2. I've been told by someone who coaches football that it was a read option play, and that Marve did make the wrong read. But still.....why a shotgun snap play that has us starting so far behind the line?? That's more wrong than anything Marve did. We've all seen that shotgun play on third and short described on TV as the wrong call, because you've made it third and medium instead. It was a read option play. But with that amount of time left. I don't like the idea of giving a new starting QB an option....run it or throw it. AS in hand the ball off or drop back and toss it. No play action, no read option. The only thing that makes me hesitate calling a run play there is the amount of time left in the game. Otherwise it's a fine call. You need to give your QB options pretty much all the time, but particularly in those late game situations because defenses often guess as to what the offense will do based on their tendencies in that game and defend heavily against certain plays. You also want to call a play that your QB is very comfortable with. It was all kind of a scramble and who knows how it would have played out if Marve had more prep time that week. Probably run a similar option play with a read on one or two receivers pre-snap to see how much cushion they are being given, allowing for a quick hitter to get the first down, or if there is press coverage allowing for a deep shot. The reason for the playcall, as I see it was the following. 1. If the QB gets the edge there is a potential for big yardage. With 24 seconds left it was a short yardage play call with a chance of gaining a big chunk of yardage that was needed due to clock concerns. 2. It is one of our most utilized plays in Marve's short yardage package so he should have had familiarity with the playcall. 3. The Argos had been holding Marshall at bay for most of the 2nd half. 4. Marve has above average running ability. 5. If executed properly it is a high percentage play both ways. While you make solid points about Marve being familar with that play and marshall being almost invisible the second half. You fail to to mention the fact that during every read option play in the second half, marve was getting hit. They never once let marve off the hook during those plays (in the 2nd half). Though often enough Marve was playing into the defender a bit to try and spring Marshall. But either way, they had someone spotting Marve while the D line took on Marshall. I stand by my statement of a horrible play call.
  3. Grigsby was still dressing also no? Just wouldn't be starting.
  4. Seems MB can't/won't/doesn't know how to adjust in the 2nd half. How many times has our O come out, looked pretty good if not great only to slow down and then come to a complete stand still as the game goes on. I get that Defenses can and do adjust. But why doesn't the Offence adjust to them as well? They do. I lean more towards the rookie QB puking his guts out and injuring his throwing hand having a huge impact. He had a hell of a time going downfield and seemed a lot less willing to both stand in the pocket and extend plays after he hurt his hand. One thing I've noticed Marve do when he hits a wall in every game he's played for us including pre-season is the chuck and duck. At a certain point the hits change how he plays. They do? In what game has our Offence been better in the 2nd half then it was in the 1st?
  5. Not going to LDC this year (grey cup instead) and was a bit bummed because of the prospect of watching Willy toss darts all day against that D and hopefully coming away with a W. But with Willy out.....I'm not so upset about not going now.

  7. I'm 100% against trading any NI for him. All we do is complain on this board that our NI talent/depth needs to improve and people want to trade some away....for an import yet? SMH not a chance!

  9. Never ever have believed in houseclearing. That guarantees you will not make the playoffs the next season. You bring guys in and may the best talent win - except for the Canadian ratio thing where you don't have to be better. Worked in Hamilton. Cleaned house in 2012 with a 6-12 team including a first year coach and brought in Austin plus several others and the team went 10-8 and made it to the Grey Cup. Went to the Grey Cup last year too. Honestly, some people have these preconceived ideas of how they think things will work out without providing any evidence to back up these preconceptions. I'm not saying the Bombers are due for a housecleaning just yet. Let's see how the season plays out first. No excuses for the team to not win at least one of their next three. I think they have a shot at winning two of the next three personally. It worked? Really? 2nd place is the first loser. Just like Hamilton in 2013 and 2014, we lost Grey Cups in 1992, 1993, 2001, 2007 and 2011. We don't celebrate those years. Sarcasm? I'll chalk it up to that. FrostyWinnipeg falsely assumes that a housecleaning will automatically mean no playoffs the following season. I rather easily dismissed his claim with my Hamilton example who by the way are smoking the Lions as we speak and will lead the East Division within a few short hours. Try and follow along more carefully next time. Maybe you missed your afternoon nap and aren't quite with it today? Yes you provided one example of an overhaul "working" immediately (talking about how well hammy is doing this year is not relevant to the current convo...ie first year after house cleaning) but fail to recognize the dozens of examples (winnipeg providing many of them) where house cleaning does not work out well after the first year. Which I can only assume is much more common than teams turning it around and Winning the grey cup. I don't want to clean house, just so we can get to 9-9 and an early playoff exit. I think O'shea and Walters can get us to the next level. It's just going to take at least one more if not 2 more years. Our assistant coaches could all be left out of the party though.
  10. Yup, all I want from him is no turn overs and stay healthy. I think our D matches up fairly well with TO.
  11. I had a rough week at 1-3....1-1 so far this week though
  12. Or how much playing a team with no offence at all helps. this. Fairly sure hamilton had more first downs in their first drive then montreal did the entire first half.
  13. By god I think gbill's got it. Moore was out and the backup slot is Veltung. Adams is out and the backup WR is Gordon. Soblem Prolved. If Veltung isn't injured I would prefer him starting over JFG.
  14. Mostly because if Cato's first read isn't there he's leaving the pocket regardless of how much time he has. Feel bad for those OL, it's the worst blocking for a QB with happy feet like that because you never know what he's doing. You could have a great pocket and then the idiot runs right into the pass rusher that you've blocked perfectly. hopefully we don't see that happen tonight!
  15. YOU'RE DEFINITELY NOT HURT!!!
  16. it helps when you can get that type of pressure only rushing 3 guys...which edmonton did often last night.
  17. Too bad they didn't take into account that the weather could be bad, it was forecast...they could have had it and hour or more earlier.Right, because forecasts are always right.Long term forecasts, I agree. But when the forecast says there's a storm coming in a couple hours, it's usually accurate. Yeah, that's a big BS from me. I've looked at the forecast many times first thing in the morning this summer, and it's barely ever right. I found this is helpful. Resets itself every couple of hours. Doesn't always show rain, but you can certainly see when large storms are coming out way. http://sirocco.accuweather.com/sat_mosaic_640x480_public/rs/isarun.gif
  18. Too bad they didn't take into account that the weather could be bad, it was forecast...they could have had it and hour or more earlier. They would have had to have the "Union" okay that adjustment and it would have taken them months to get around to looking at it. Q. Was there sufficient urgency? A. I think not, shut up or we'll strike! Show the proof that they would have needed a "Union" ok..to move it a couple of hours, otherwise your comment is a total guess! fairly sure it was joke
  19. No on Lapo...his Offence was just as vanilla as MB's maybe more so. I would like some new blood even though I wouldn't be against bringing in Berry.
  20. didn't Moore have some also?
  21. I don't understand why this is so hard to comprehend. Reading blitzes, making quick decisions, and getting rid of the ball is how Danny Mcmanus made a career. It's where Willy is lacking. Just because you don't like the argument doesn't make it invalid No the argument loses validity when you expect a qb to catch the ball and instantly throw it. Even Danny Mcmanus and Kevin Glenn, two notably quick throwers had trouble when the pressure was in their face as quickly as it's been coming for the Bombers this year. Drew Willy is the least of the problems on this team. add to that slow developing routes/no one open.
  22. I have hyperextended my knee before, and while it hurt like hell. It wasn't as bad as it felt. Took a few weeks to get back to normal (With basically no rehabbing) and i was able to run full strength again fairly quickly.
  23. There's always more than one problem when you have a game like yesterday. Saying that, I think 2 of the 3 issues can be addressed quickly by getting rid of the first one. I know I'm going on about it, but 7 games in is enough. Willy has proven he can perform and perform well. He is our future and I don't want to watch a mediocre OC ruin his career.
  24. The OL couldn't put more than 2 decent plays in a row together. Limiting factor on this offense, doesn't matter if they bring in Mike McCarthy or Dave Dickenson or Vince Lombardi to call the plays. Bellefeuille has a history in the league so you can judge him on that, but hard to judge the job he's doing here just because that offensive line is so awful. When your QB has a guy like Laurent two steps away from him by the time the snap is in his hands it doesn't matter if it's a screen, shovel pass, or what hot routes he's called pre-snap, the play is over. It isn't hard to judge his job here. Last year, ok the talent was flawed. This year we have at the very least decent talent on the oline. And this exact thing happens everywhere Marcel goes. Just to beat a dead horse, while in MTL his O gave up over 50 sacks...the very next year, they gave up below 25....same players. It's not something that is going to change.
