  1. For context, at the end of the regular season we were #1 in Yards allowed per game (319), Passing yards allowed per game (229.4), and Points allowed per game (20.9). We were #3 in Rushing yards allowed per game (90.2) behind TOR (83.7) and OTT (84.8)... only reason OTT is ahead of us is because teams passed on them at will and didn't even need to run the ball.
  2. That's the hitch right there, not everyone can afford the extra spending, the field becomes potentially imbalanced again
  3. He's never been any sort of dominant force that we love to see but he is deceptively strong and verifiably athletic, he plays all across the line, that's not something you discard lightly... size can't be taught... still plenty of time to peak, he's only 29
  4. That would be a numbers game like any other, and it could work... cap usage is a rolling number that accumulates as the season goes on, an extra column is not that hard to track... teams with the need or desire to free up $ by season's end (maybe bonuses and extensions?) could take advantage and more CanCon gets showcased in the process. Of course it shouldn't come at the cost of winning. Nobody wants to hear we lost but hey at least we saved some cap
  5. Yes indeed! Today we lament the impending loss of Oleary Orange and crow about the potential in Tui Eli.... both of whom were 4th rounders. More picks in the 2nd is a great thing
  6. I read somewhere that barely 10% of CFL draft picks make it on to a regular season roster. Of course, your odds of finding one of those 10% goes up with more selections. As we creep towards cap hell trying to extend everyone it's important to have guys in the pipe 14-4, first in the West and a championship berth on hard mode! AND a bonus draft pick! Stop bragging!
  7. Came real close to doing both... besides, the draft picks are rewarded to the teams with most Canadian snaps by end of the season, not the most Canadian snaps in the championship game... so the two things have little to do with one another... To answer the question though, obviously a GC! But they are not mutually exclusive.
  8. Now that we are being rewarded for it, playing 8 Canadians at times and relying less on the new Nationalized import rules seems like less of a failure to utilize the roster and more of a strategy to lock down a bonus draft pick. Great incentive to play Nationals even when you have Nationalized imports with snaps to spare
  9. From most outsanding rookie runner-up to the SSK scrap heap... if he plays anywhere in 2024 it will be at bargain bin discount prices
  10. Agreed! The dumb icing on this dumb cake is the revelation he personally caught a TD that ruined one of his own over/under bets
  11. Wow. It was pretty much a foregone conclusion Brown was leaving. I'm impressed we were able to get anything at all as it was crystal clear he was heading to FA... OTT taking no chances on someone else swooping in. Kudos Walters and congrats to OTT, they poached one of the most coveted pending FAs
  12. Arland Bruce IV... I assume this has to do with the indefinite suspension that was never lifted by the NCAA, or just the stink associated with gambling on your own games... still a shame, he is no doubt a talent
  13. Exactly how I felt when I read that Arland Bruce IV is a CFL player
  14. https://3downnation.com/2024/01/15/saskatchewan-roughriders-finalize-coaching-staff-under-corey-mace/ New to the team are receivers coach Marquay McDaniel, offensive line coach Edwin Harrison, pass game coordinator and defensive backs coach Josh Bell, defensive line coach Phillip Daniels, linebackers coach and run game coordinator J.C. Sherritt, defensive assistant Jordan Linnen, and assistant special teams coach Jeff Higgins... Anthony Vitale, who was Saskatchewan’s offensive line coach a year ago, will now serve as the running backs coach... The group joins Mace, who will also serve as the team’s defensive coordinator, as well as offensive coordinator Marc Mueller and special teams coordinator Kent Maugeri. The Riders were way overdue for fresh faces. Nice to see JC Sherritt back in the CFL after spending a few years in the NCAA ranks
  15. When an agent reports an offer they can say "I can think you can do better" true or realistic or not.
  16. Players and their agents that agree to off season bonuses are gambling on themselves, that they will lock down their spot and be indispensable and worth the $ come bonus time. Seems good business to cut players not worth the bonus and to pay the ones that are. Pro football is a cut throat business, players and agents know the risks when they negotiate No arguing the point about overpaid Canadian OL, however. That's the ratio for you. Hide your CanCon in the trenches where they are less exposed and fill out the skill positions with American mercenaries on entry level contracts, retain your top tier talent and keep shuffling the deck everywhere else. I wonder, would a reduction in the ratio spread more of the money around, or further drive up the cost of quality Canadians? I think the former but who knows?
  17. I thought Evans and especially Crum did pretty well for guys that were thrown directly into the fire early on in their pro careers. Evans will be 26 at the start of next season and Crum just turned 25 last week, either one could elevate their game with actual support around them. Crum would will out an occasional win in spite of it all, that guy has a bit of that Buck Pierce determination in him
  18. I thought HAM for sure until Bo was brought back (thought he was gone based on his remarks at the end of the season). OTT seems like the path of least resistance, but as has been pointed out, that's where QB's go to die. SSK is rolling with Harris because <fart noises>, they could use a good young QB like Brown in the wings but Brown wants to start now, not later (it appears to me). CGY seems enamored with Maier, and he isn't thaaaat bad... call me a homer but I think Brown could do better.
  19. I think this was the thread where Rourke's compensation occasionally came up...? Saw this article... if accurate, it should put to rest any notion that Rourke would have earned more by staying up North: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/rourke-more-money-nfl-anyone-cfl Former BC Lions quarterback Nathan Rourke made more money playing in the NFL this season than anyone playing in the CFL. Despite not playing a single live regular season snap, Rourke made more than US$500,000 for his efforts this year, per Spotrac. Across the 2023 NFL season, Rourke was paid US$125,001 from the New England Patriots and US$394,667 from the Jacksonville Jaguars. That combines for a total of US$519,668. The highest-paid CFL player at the start of the 2023 season was Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback Zach Collaros. He made C$600,000, or roughly US$445,000, last season. Chad Kelly then signed a three-year, C$1.865 million extension with the Toronto Argonauts to become the highest-paid CFL player. That means that Kelly will make about US$465,000 per season at the current exchange rate. Stands to reason that if/when Rourke returns he will set a new high-water mark for QB's in the CFL
  20. I think we all saw it coming but hoped for a miracle. Brown is as good as gone and it's a crying shame. Would love to get something for him before he walks, but I suspect teams would rather wait a month for FA than give up even token picks for exclusive neg rights... would be great to turn something out of nothing though, fingers crossed.
  21. Burke Dales, former CGY punter, GC champ and 2 time CFL AllStar has passed away Yikes he was only 46
  22. The day? I chortle... I do tend to see a lot of the nastier posts before they get cleaned up by the mods since I'm an MBB addict and check in constantly. Or perhaps it's just so normalized that anyone not affected by that sort of language simply doesn't see it or feel it. In any case, I am surprised you haven't seen it, considering you're here just as much or more than I am.
  23. Disagree, this site runs on ad revenue, member or not, the more clicks the better. Beesides $, I myself was a lurker on OB.com for a long time before becoming a, what, 13 or 14 years and running contributor to that site then this one. Some lurkers are just members that haven't signed up yet.
  24. I know at least 1 quality poster that stopped posting here after a years of casual homophobia reached fever peak this season... God forbid you like OShea or Holm, or think Kola isn't the worst thing ever, or thought Kramdi made a good play... you must be a knob gobbling shaft slobbering cock sucker! Lie to me and tell em I'm exaggerating, go ahead. But we're mean. At least 1 poster left possibly for good because of Booch, and who knows how many more lurkers have decided this isnt a welcome space to talk football because Booch is so revered here he can say whatever to whoever and still be MBBs darling... so don't worry, the saying is true "assholes live forever", Booch will be back, he doesn't care how any of us feel about him or how he speaks to others, he has made that abundantly clear numerous times. You couldn't get rid of him if you tried.
