Bombers Rookie Camp/Training Camp/Pre-Season Thread
It's honestly bizarre to me. Bringing in so few LB prospects and playing Maruo so much is indefensible. It's hard to complain too much when our leadership is so successful but it really feels like they are losing their edge this year. I liked the comment earlier in this thread about Wally Buono cutting players at this point in their careers and we haven't seen O'Shea cut one of "his guys" in awhile. Coming off a 15-3 season it's impossible not to predict a regression but the question is whether this is a 12-6 team or a 9-9 team. Injuries will play a role.

I share some of the same worries and I think there's some validity to it. O'Shea has a veteran bias but I personally still trust him to make the right call. The LB recruitment crop was weak. Cole and Clements aren't good enough. We know this. Couple this with Bighill being old and unable to practice and we have some trouble in the LB corps. Yes Biggie is a vet but he needs to practice. Briggs isn't a starter. I do really like Gauthier however. The DL should be fine. I have no concerns with Jefferson and Jeffcoat. Ricky Walker deserves a shot at starting but Caleb Thomas is right there ready to take his spot. I look at that as a scouting win. Haba won the 3rd DE spot and I have no reason to hate on that. He came in late and played well. He won the job we all knew was available. One spot I echo some concerns is with the RB situation. I don't like that Oliveira already gets the country club treatment in camp and Augustine clearly isn't a starter so we have some weakness there. In some ways I feel like we're dictating our rosters based on Andrew Harris being our RB but we could let go...there are options in that spot. Overall I look at our roster and see a dominant lineup. The OL is strong unless Bryant and Neufeld really fall off a cliff. The receiving corps is dynamite. I'm not sold on BOLO yet but as a backup Canadian he is well above average. The defence is going to have trouble getting off the field when Willie and Jeffcoat can't get to the QB but I'm feeling pretty good about the roster.

NDP name carries too much baggage. It's hopeless for them in AB as long as there is one united conservative party. NDP is known nationally as the far-left party. Even if the provincial NDP in AB lean further right than the national NDP, it's tough for them to shake the association. I'm not sure what their answer should be. The Liberal name is even more toxic in AB. Maybe they need to start a brand new party made up of current NDP members and more traditional conservatives.- Coming to a Bombers game....

Yeah that sounds right. I also understand that there are now only 2 designated import spots. So we could do something like: 8th "national" starter: Brandon Alexander 2 nationalized Americans: Janarion Grant, Alden Darby 2 designated imports: Sergio Castillo, and any other American player- Bombers Rookie Camp/Training Camp/Pre-Season Thread
This is the full list of Bombers who qualify as Nationalized Americans: Brandon Alexander Alden Darby Jr Winston Rose Jackson Jeffcoat Willie Jefferson Adam Bighill Stanley Bryant Jermarcus Hardrick Rasheed Bailey Janarion Grant Sergio Castillo (not sure how the rules work for kickers)- Bombers Rookie Camp/Training Camp/Pre-Season Thread
The number of national starters has increased to eight but one of them can be a nationalized American, who has played five years in the CFL or three years with the same team. One Canadian starter on each side of the ball can be replaced for up to 49 percent of snaps. The twist is that the two teams who play "true nationals" on the most snaps this season get an extra second round pick in the 2024 draft. Which spots do we have a nationalized American available? Most of the players we have that qualify as nationalized Americans are already starters. These spots might end up being used for American veterans who are nearing the end of their career. For example, starting Shayne Gauthier and Adam Bighill in a platoon. It could also be used for a guy like Janarion Grant, as already mentioned... Rotating in the receiving corps. Could we see a young American receiver win a starting job over Rasheed Bailey for example? This would let Bailey rotate in as a nationalized American. We might even see some teams carry a veteran American OL that rotates in at Guard for example, improving the line for half the snaps. Not that an American is necessarily better than a Canadian but some teams may have that situation available. - The Gap Between MB-AB vs Last 3x GC Finalists, 2x Champs: A Mother-f***ing GDT!
