  1. just proving once again that they blew it up at the worst time possible. Should have done it after the back to back with Hamilton.
  2. how so? If it was then wouldn't they go back to Pierce rather than the third string? It's no secret that Burke is a Goltz fan, he has been the whole time, it's also no secret that Crowton is Halls biggest thing. I would suggest that this is nothing more than the coaches now realizing that they're next up to be fired so if they're going to be fired they're going to go with the players THEY want to go with.
  3. Most likely scenario, Crowton knows what hes' the next whipping boy on the chopping block and says "If I'm going to get fired let me play my guy"
  4. and to be completely fair Cornish is a dink of epic proportions himself.
  5. if it's cheap enough I'd consider it, but I'd want to be pretty confident he's not going to pull a Buck and sit on the IR more often than not.
  6. but at what cost? Not like there was a lot in the cupboard to to work with in terms of making trades. Now sure we can bicker about the one or two free agents who were out there that could have been THAT guy but there was really only 1 or 2 people.
  7. I just think that if Tate is going to be hurt all the time it's the same thing that happened in 2010. IF he was cheap sure I'd consider it but not sure Huffer would give him up cheap.
  8. This I like this. When Mack walked in he inherited a few really good players but not much else beyond that no draft picks, no promising young NIs in the system, very little actual depth. What we have now is a good base to build on but probably lack a couple of those top level people. So a new GM comes in with lots of work with, lots of options for what to do. Aside from not having that established QB it's a pretty good situation for a new GM to walk into.
  9. I bought in Cranston for about 400000, but go across the street there's houses for anywhere from half a mil to a mil. Different people have different thresholds for what nice is. But bottom line when comparing to Winnipeg I don't think 200000 difference is the actual number, just seems way too big a gap.
  10. he may have given them the best chance to win, but most games he'd do just enough to not win. It's not surprise that they would have been looking for more. A lot of things got attributed to Mack that Lapo has flat out said were his ideas. Brink was one, Crowton was another, people just seem more willing to blame Mack.
  11. well what's your definition of nice?
  12. but lets say that Goltz goes on to be this teams starting qb for the next number of years and swiston and pencer wind up being solid starters on the o-line.... would it then not stand to reason that the guy actually knew what he was doing?
  13. didn't Lapo put to rest all that nonsense that he was forced to start Brink anyway? God the media in Winnipeg are nothing but a bunch of rumour mongers. They'd improve their shows ten fold if they'd read threads from here instead of talking themselves.
  14. The actual legacy will be more like: re-built team depth but couldn't hire a good coach to save his job.
  15. no not really, they always had someone as a draft coordinator helping but mack still had the final say. For example, there's talk that Walters (AGM and NI guy) apparently wanted Edem while Mack wanted Mulumba.
  16. but even that muamba pick was a potential pick rather than the safest right now pick. The o-linemen was considered the safe and smart pick. Hell even looking at the Etienne pick, Parker was considered a better receiver pick than Etienne but you'd be hard pressed to say right now that it's farther apart than it is. Cory Watson was considered a right now pick when Mack took him as well and it still took some time for him to become any sort of impact player. People just have this unreasonable expectations about how quickly draft picks are ready. I think part of this is because the only time Taman actually kept his first round draft pick they wound up with Labatte who stepped in right away and was real good, but that draft was unusual with how many quality o-linemen it had.
  17. $200000 is probably over shooting it a bit. probably more like $100000-$150000
  18. haha more like board member contacts Lawless "Hey Gary meet me at the coffee shop have I got some news for you!"
  19. Crowton isn't the only guy handling the offense though... I think the big issue is that we simply have the wrong guys all around coaching the offense.
  20. Lawless should be banned regardless. That guy is such a useless media personality.
  21. toronto has maas as qb coach.
  22. technically Crowton is the qb coach, we've been over this before, it's not like they don't have a guy to coach qbs. I'm not saying they shouldn't have a seperate one, I'm just saying that trying to imply that the difference between winning and losing in the CFL is that positional coach is stupid and shortsighted. There's no magic bullet here, this post is clearly trying to say that there is.
  23. one year wonder receivers or offensive coaches so bad they destroy talented players?
  24. circumstantial evidence. Toronto, Saskatchewan Calgary and BC all have proven winning offensive coordinators. I can just as easily turn around and say that is the reason. They all also have proven quarterbacks in the prime of their careers while the other teams do not (Burris and Calvillo being in the twilight of theirs, WInnipeg with a broken vet and raw backups, edmonton with a bunch of raw qbs) I don't buy for a second that the difference between winning in the CFL and losing is a qb coach. I don't think it's bad to have one, I just don't see it as the reason teams either do good or they don't.
  25. My thoughts are that if the guy you want is available now then bring them in without wasting time, if you want someone you have to wait til the offseason for then wait for them. The only thing that matters is hiring the right person. Do that and everything else will take care of itself.
