HA!I appreciate anyone who puts training camp reports up, but you sir, give the impression that this is SRS BSNS and get uppity when someone else gets more credit than you do. Definitely comes across as attention and approval seeking. For me it's all about giving credit where credit is due. That's how I am at work and it's very much appreciated by my subordinates, colleagues and my supervisors. It's not about seeking approval or attention. Different environment here I guess... which is seeking approval... how you not grasping that?

every power source has limits and yes I am aware that they talk about dilithium crystals, but the fact is that if you look at the theoretical work on warp fields, the magnitude of the power required for that, let alone all the other energy ---> matter technology they have it might as well just be magic. Let's not even get into the idea behind their transporters. That technology was implemented simply because it was too costly to film shuttle landing sequences every episode. It's all still magicked away, they just dress it up in sciency mumbo jumbo. The difference comes down to the format of each. In an hour long tv episode you can come up with an explanation for why the problem of the week can be solved, in a movie you don't have time to explain everything, you just have things that work because they work and explaining why takes away from the action and adventure and makes it more tedious. Episodic story telling can be more detail focussed by it's nature.

Kendial Lawrence was a scrambled mid season pick up in my fantasy pool and he was maybe my most consistent point getter. Guy is a good player.

Fwiw, he's the 2nd biggest Taman fan on this board...... Yeah I am insulted that people forgot how much of a Taman booster I am (not when he wears green though)

but that's not really the point, sure a lot of the stuff in Trek is theoretically possible, including warp fields... the fantasy part is how they're magicked up a limitless and infinite power source to run all these technologies that have insanely high energy demands. The idea behind Star Trek is that energy is limitless and available to everyone, but that's as magical and fantastical as saying there's a mystical force that surrounds everything and special people can manipulate it. The difference is really episodic tv series vs. blockbuster movie. One prioritizes exploring characters and the setting, the other prioritizes the adventure. My main point in all of this though, is trying to separate sci-fi and science fantasy is silly. Too much gets made of genres and people like to make them too specific. It's all just window dressing for the story and characters.

You'll get more from a goalie prospect though. No you won't. Goalie prospects are notoriously flaky and hold little value. There are so many serviceable goaltenders out there every season no one is going to spend big unless they really get their heart set on someone. Goalies are important but they hold about the least trade value of any position. Thats where adding say Pav to a buff for eberle trade might be enticing for both teams, IF the Jets feel comfortable riding Hutch, or vice versa, but if its Pav, might as well do it while he has even a little value. I think this works for both teams, imo unless MacT is the type of dealer that offers a bag of pucks n a roll of hockey tape, then maybe we look elsewhere That's a terrible move for the Oilers. Eberle has been the Oilers leading scorer multiple times since he's made the NHL and he's on a good contract with term left. Buff has 1 year left and coming off a poor playoffs, combined with his past laziness issues his value is not nearly what some of you want to believe it is. Pavelec is just another goaltender like many that are on the market. 1 year of Buff + Pavs doesn't get you Eberle.

No the problem is the depth in Edmonton was so poor that the only pieces that held real value were the ones they couldn't trade. The depth in the organization is getting better, but it's a long process. McTavish has made a lot of dumb dumb moves but he did improve the prospect depth more than Tambellini did. Trouble is with trading is other GMs know he's desperate and are trying to get him to over pay and give up someone he can't afford to give up. He's resisted that temptation and then just before Nicholson forced him to fire Eakins, he also put the brakes on MacT trading one of the big name players. Remember how much talk there was about everyone being on the table then all of a sudden that talk disappears... that was Bob Nicholson taking over the team keeping them from doing something stupid. McTavish at this point is a dead man walking. He will either be fired or he'll be so neutered that he'll basically just be cashing a paycheque.

wait, you want to fundraise to send someone else to Florida for a weekend?

But he is more than a returner. Which is the point. He is an excellent multi dimensional player with the stats to back it up. I dont like the silliness either to to fluff him off as an average player who's being overrated is assinine. Kendial Lawrence is as much an offensive weapon in Edmonton as he is a returner... Banks is just another run of the mill kick returner who takes some offensive snaps. There are tons of those guys in the league. Most of them don't cry like a spoiled brat when a penalty brings back a return.

yeah we'll just re-route whatever we need to through the main deflector dish and solve all our problems. GIve me a break. Star Trek is as much fantasy as Star Wars is. The real difference between the two is that Star Trek, at least the original series and the early years of next generation were really focussed on examining humanity. Trying to separate science fiction and science fantasy is pointless. sci-fi, fantasy, horror, all these things are just window dressing. It's the stories that make a difference. Star Trek being an episodic tv show has a different focus than star wars which was always intended to be a space adventure.
-
Oh god are you one of the people who thinks there should be a difference? To me that is a ridiculous idea that science fiction and science fantasy should be separate because there's less sciencey sounding mumbo jumbo in one.

George Lucas is much more of an idea guy than a real writer. He can come up with good concepts but when it comes to writing he is absolutely terrible. The problem with episodes 1-3 is that he was such a big deal when they were made that no one had the balls to stop him and say "No George that is a terrible idea"
-
I heard absolutely nothing about mini-camp aside from Goodrich quitting football.how is that possible?
-
and goalies don't have much value in trades either so don't pretend you're going to get anything of value from anyone for a goaltender.
-
OK but those are the throw ins on a Trouba for Hall base right?
-
There's still only one football and someone is going to be left out and be more of a decoy rather than actually putting up numbers. Numbers are what gets a receiver paid.
-
you really don't know what realistic means do you? Toby is a good defenceman, but the Oilers don't really need a guy like him, They don't need a Ladd either because they have a lot of pieces at forward that are good enough. They need D and a guy like Buff would be good, problem is he has very little term left on his contract so his value is automatically lowered because of that but fans don't take into account contracts when they talk about value and Jets fans will want Eberle + but one year of Buff ain't worth Eberle with his cost certainty and production level for the next 5 years.
-
I don't even think it's the cost, I think someone is going to be unhappy with the lack of work they're getting. Lot of those guys probably went with the idea of being more involved. That's the brutal reality of football, there are no guarantees. It's likely one or two of these receivers will shake loose and be picked up by other CFL teams. Don't think other teams are going to want to acquire the contracts Marcel signed them to, so trades are unlikely. Should be interesting. Continually doing stuff like that though gets you on a lot of players **** lists. They already have Kevin Glenn pissed at them for the shenanigans, now you likely got a few receivers. Can't help but think Desjardins is digging himself a hole again.

very nicely summed up. All the same issues I had with Man of Steel.

Jurassic World looks just terrible. I saw a quote that I think sums it up, if the movie was called "Dino-land" rather than trading on the Jurassic Park name everyone would laugh at this awful B movie. I'll watch it don't get me wrong because the inner 12 year old still loves dinosaurs but good grief. As for fantastic 4, yeah how about no? The franchise sucked the first time they tried and it still sucks.

Ahhh the regular whining about people whining about a guy who is seen as a whiner.... I wish we could all be as enlightened as you and above such pettiness.....
