  1. And that is one of the reasons why many people thought the Bombers could do better than Marcel Bellefool at the position. If he gets Willy crippled by stubbornly sticking to a system that lets him take so many hits I'll never forgive him.
  2. and canadian
  3. Passing yards is the most overrated stat that there is. Right, because all you need to do is go through your progressions, make the correct read, deliver a good ball, all the while having upwards of four or more people trying to take your head off every single play, and in the process hoping your receiver does his job properly by running the correct route and catching the ball while someone else is trying to take his head off as well or deflect the ball to prevent the completion....Unbelievable. I think he has a point. The first thing that people usually look at to judge a quarterback is passing yards, when there are other factors that play a greater part in winning and losing... Such as the TD-INT ratio. Passing yards also depend on the frequency at which a team runs the ball. It's almost pointless to talk about passing yards without context. You better use TD-ints with context too though. Some teams might just run the ball in the redzone, and there's a lot of ints that aren't the qbs fault as well. Every stat in the game needs context associated with it. Passing yards though have some pretty standard benchmarks. anything over 5000 yards in a season is a great season, over 4000 is a very good season and 3500 is a solid season. Under 3000 and you expect a lot more out of the qb, and so on. I think these are pretty widely accepted benchmarks.
  4. no this is 100% false. Some opinions can be dumb and incorrect and some smart and correct. "I like chocolate more than vanilla" is a subjective opinion that depends on the person expressing said opinion, "In my opinion Drew Willy can't read a defense" is a dumb and incorrect opinion. All "opinions" are subjective, regardless of their correctness. You seem to take it upon yourself frequently to be the arbiter of others opinions. I don't think that's helpful, and points I think to what the OP was saying in the first place. That's because I am the arbiter.
  5. 100% bullshit. He's had what? 20 starts in his career? That's barely over 1 full season. He would absolutely benefit from more experience. People have to stop thinking that he was anywhere close to a finished product when he came here. He is still a guy trying to establish himself. MOAR experience is going to benefit him. Maybe, but out of the experience he's already gotten, he's established himself as who I think is a top 5 quarterback. Yes, he's a young quarterback, so it's good for him to have more experience. But I agree with Yourface. What good is that if he ends up getting injured again and ends up being out for longer yet? Then, he's just going to turn into one of those injury-prone QBs who ends up spending more time injured than actually playing like Buck Pierce. Play it safe. Willy will get plenty of extra experience next season. It's not like he's in danger of losing his starting position. You don't play the game afraid of injuries. He's able to play, he should play. Now that's not to say he should stay in the whole time if he struggles as bad as he did last week, but giving him a chance to rebound from that performance is important. Too many people are too quick to jump on the back up qb bandwagon. Willy is the starter for a reason and there is no reason for him not to start this game.
  6. Too much reliance on replay by the CFL IMO. They use the replay to do their jobs on the field for them and they got lazy. Oh don't worry about missing a call, we'll catch it on replay. complete and utter horseshit. Let's get rid of the replays entirely and I bet you see more consistency within the game in the reffing.

  8. All we want from the refs is consistency. PI is laughable, even with the reviews they put in. Too much of a judgement call and what is PI one time (even when reviewed) may not be PI another time. Holding is pretty arbitrary as well. Call the game consistently and players and coaches will learn what is a foul and what isn't and can stop doing things that cross the line. (unless they're Kuale, then they'll just keep doing stupid things and whine about being marked)
  9. 100% bullshit. He's had what? 20 starts in his career? That's barely over 1 full season. He would absolutely benefit from more experience. People have to stop thinking that he was anywhere close to a finished product when he came here. He is still a guy trying to establish himself. MOAR experience is going to benefit him. Of course more experience, over the long haul, is going to be beneficial. But again, this is a meaningless game at the end of the season. It's basically a pre-season game that doesn't serve a purpose. I just don't see how playing in this one game is going to help him grow in any way. I would not disagree with you if a win meant something in the standings, but as it stands, I don't see value in Willy starting, and getting killed in the backfield again. Just my opinion. Your opinion is bad and you should feel bad.
  10. part of putting your opinion out there is subjecting it to the judgement of the masses. Not every opinion is valid or good and if you can't handle people judging your opinions then lurking is the best place for someone to be. As for homers. gloomers or whatever else, it's not about being negative, it's just that some people do fall into these categories. I can think of some people who always say positive things about the team, and I can think of people who do massively under rate things about this team. This isn't about disagreeing with opinions, it's about some people always acting in the same way. I like to think that I am a positive person in general with regards to the Bombers, but I can point out when something isn't good enough without resorting to the hyperbole that some people seem to need to do. Flaws can be pointed out without the doom and gloom. Positives can be pointed out without being a kool aid drinker. A lot of people here don't seem to get that though. Then judge people's opinions, I have no issues with that. Calling someone stupid, dumb, or any personal insult is what I have issue with. That includes calling someone's opinion stupid. If you feel that passionately about what someone typed to actually respond to it, then tell them why you disagree with it, not simply that it is a dumb opinion. I've seen message boards were new people posting are jumped on by multiple different people when they post. Haven't really seen it happen here, but that pack mentality is bad for message boards. I am sorry but some opinions are stupid and deserve to be called so. To not do it is to do a disservice to people. They will go on continuing to think just because it's their opinion that it's valid and right because everyone is entitled to their opinions.

  13. and do you understand why that was? You know how undesirable a place you are for coaches when the average head coach gets 2 or 3 seasons before being fired and coordinators are lucky to get 1? Which proven coordinators do you suppose would want to come here if we fired the ones we have this year? You guys know that the lack of stability in the coacing and GM ranks is the reason guys like Stubler decided not to come here? This happens in other cities and yet they have no problem hiring quality coordinators and coaches afterwards. Ie Toronto, Hamilton, Montreal, Edmonton, Saskatchewan...pretty much the whole league actually. Does it? BC has been pretty stable with Wally as GM and his guys taking over after him, Hufnagel has been in Calgary for a long time running things, Popp has been in Montreal forever, Barker in Toronto for a long time... Saskatchewan had some turmoil for a while and it got them into a tricky spot but now it's stable again. The Bombers though? 4 different Gms in the past 7 seasons and 5 head coaches in that same time frame. You wonder why we can't get anyone with a proven track record to come here? It's basically been a guarantee to have your reputation trashed. Are we to assume the people we fired have done well in other cities after being fired here? That's what I'm saying, guys who were considered some of the best assistant coaches in the league came here and now are lucky to get work elsewhere. Winnipeg has a reputation of chewing up coaches and spitting them out and leaving them almost unemployable. That's why we need to stick with these guys again. They were not so bad as to warrant dismissal. When I look at this team I see bigger problems with the roster make up than with coaching. So keep the coaches, get that stability and work on getting better players on the team and see where that takes us. If we get to the point where the roster looks really good and the coaches aren't pulling their weight then we can make changes, but right now the roster has too many holes.
  14. The simple fact is that you can gain a lot as a player by playing through an adverse situation. If Willy learns in this game how to over come some of the problems he's dealing with now that helps the team a lot in the future. This game is so mental, I think we need to see how he responds to a crappy game. He knows what he did wrong in the last game, he said it plain as day on the post game interview. Let's see if he's able to over come it.
  15. No Doege didn't look better than Sunseri, that was just wishful thinking on your part and on Chamblins part. That's why your opinion is worthless. There's no substance behind it just blind hope or in the case of Willy, parroting what the "right" thing to do is.
  16. I prefer to think of it as getting a chance to save up a giant bag of "**** you"s to hand out when they do eventually win.
  17. No he really didn't... he had that good first game because Toronto was not able to get in his way, but he was running even worse early in the season than he was later in the year. Guy was a puss from the get go.
  18. I just don't see the hype with Reilly. He's got a great defense backing him there... now that being said I've never liked the crappy passers who can run, but Reilly strikes me as just too chaotic.
  19. There is this thing called a life that people have and have more time for than watching football. No one is talking about that, people are talking about giving up on season tickets because the team isn't winning, that's the mark of a bad fan. Not surprised a Rider fan is OK with bandwagon jumping though.
  20. Moore ... Denmark ... Cotton ... Leggett ... Turner ... Anderson ... Washington ... Stoudermire ... Hajrullahu ... You know, I'm really starting to notice ... as much as people say we have homers, we sure do have a ton of gloomers as well. Moore ... Denmark ... Cotton ... Leggett ... Turner ... Anderson ... Washington ... Stoudermire ... Hajrullahu ... in addition to my mention of Randle & Wild That's a list of our better players but how many are going to be a western all-star (or 2nd team) this year: Hajrullahu possibly... Randle surely I think ... Leggett will be beaten out by Breckenridge but he is good ... Stoudermire might be the best in the league but won't get the votes this year ... Moore has been a bust this year ... Denmark might get in on stats but he has not been a dominating player ... Cotton is still unproven as promising as he looks ... Turner & Anderson & Wild will at best get honorable mentions ... Washington I hope My guess is we get 3 on the western all star team this year ... how many of the rest would be on a 2nd western team is how many are "above average" ie 1st or 2nd out of 5 teams Do we get more than 3 out of 26 or so players as western all stars? if you're expecting a lot of all stars from the team with the worst record in the west you're going to be disappointed... but that doesn't mean that we don't have our share of good players here. Part of the problem is the depth and what we lack in addition to those good players.

  22. yeah you're opinion on which qb should start is oh so valid right? How's your boy Doege doing lately? So much better than Sunseri right? So you're going to judge my opinion on who should start for Winnipeg based on something completely off-topic from what we're talking about here? Now you're just finding reasons to bash my opinions and trying to bait me into an arguement. I had a good reason to back up what I said (about Winnipeg, not Saskville). But to answer your question about the Rider QBs, I really cannot answer, because both are too inconsistent. what I am saying is you have shown that your judgement on qbs is bad and your opinions aren't worth listening to because of said bad judgements. I'm just working with what you give me.
  23. and do you understand why that was? You know how undesirable a place you are for coaches when the average head coach gets 2 or 3 seasons before being fired and coordinators are lucky to get 1? Which proven coordinators do you suppose would want to come here if we fired the ones we have this year? You guys know that the lack of stability in the coacing and GM ranks is the reason guys like Stubler decided not to come here? No, I don't know that Stubler decided not to go to Winnipeg based on the lack of stability, and you don't either. Stability when you're winning is great. It's bad when you're losing. It creates an atmosphere of losing and it's incredibly hard to turn that around. Giving coaches more time to screw up doesn't make Winnipeg a better choice for other coaches. A winning team with a winning attitude makes it easier to sign coaches and players. Win or be replaced is better than we'll keep you around no matter what. and this is why it's been so ******* long since we've had a championship team and why we have had so many tire fire seasons. But hey I think you would honestly be happiest with lots to complain about. You're very much like Paul Friesen in that regard. Not even close. It's been a long time because of the coaches and players we've hired. The only way the fans effect the team is by not buying tickets and merchandise. That happens when we aren't winning. Quite frankly, Bomber fans are some of the best in the league for putting up with constant mistakes the organization makes. You're only happy when you're arguing. it's not about fans, it's about management that has had the same attitude as fans like you. Oh Dave Ritchies team took a step back, better fire him, the resutls aren't there. Never mind that his successor was far far worse. Doug Berrys team took a step back one year? Better fire him the results aren't there and we need to win because it's been such a long time since there's been a championship. Never mind that his successor was the worst thing to happen to the team. Lapo went to the grey cup and had a bad start, better fire him, wins and losses are all that matters never mind that it caused a wasted season and a half with Tim Burke. You see how this nonsense of constantly firing guys digs the team deeper and deeper into a hole? You need stability in order to entice good people to want to come here. Right now the team has a **** reputation for job security, and rightly so. Like it or not that's just the way it is. Firing coordinators this year isn't going to help improve that reputation so we'll be stuck with has beens at best, never were's or hoping a rookie who is desperate for a chance to come here. Being impatient got the team into this mess, continuing that trend is not going to help. Patience is required. Forget all about how long it's been since the Bombers won a championship. Look at where this regime started and where we are now and you will see things are progressing. GIve it time and time is more than this season and next.
  24. That's BS. You can be a fan and not have season tickets even if you can afford them. Yeah you're just not as good a fan.
