Bombers sign Jamall Westerman
Who cares about position? Draft the best player available. You need to start 7 Canadians, not 7 Canadian offensive linemen. Drafting by position out of desperation does not work. Clearly try to bring in players at every spot, but in terms of prioritizing, it just doesn't work. We could draft an OL in the fourth round who will have a better career than the guy rated highest in the draft by CFL.ca today.

Canadians in the NFL Draft
Saskatchewan is pretty desperate for NI's on offence, Argos are borderline desperate with Durie and Bradwell around their best before dates.

Canadians in the NFL Draft
I think the legitimate "skill" guys (Tailbacks and REC's) could go very fast because there aren't many and especially many who will be anything but longer term development guys. Demski, Harty and Shaq are the guys ready to play. By the Bombers 2nd pick I wouldn't be surprised if three of Demski, Harty, Durant and Shaq are off the board. Campbell and Richards might hang on the board a bit longer. I hope Walters is listening to offers and pushing other teams who may be putting together offers to include some younger current CFLers. Hamilton could be an interesting trade partner in terms of trading down and adding a guy who can make a big impact this year.

Shaw Communications named presenting sponsor of Grey Cup
You sure about that? Whenever I watch a game from the Spengler Cup I can't believe that advertisers even want to pay for jerseys like that^. They are so busy that you can barely pick out a single sponsor when you see them. I could see paying for the entire front or a patch on the back or something, but with 20 other logos on the shirt, it's useless.

Canadians in the NFL Draft
I just got a robo call from the New York Giants. They invited me to mini-camp, but I didn't want to disappoint my mom on Sunday, so I turned them down.

Bombers sign Jamall Westerman
I wouldn't call it a nightmare, that's a little extreme don't you think? Needing two of Thomas, Briggs or Sherman on the field at all times would not be good. Who knows if Newman will be anywhere close to where he was pre-injury? Briggs has big potential, and I see him as kind of a hedge on Hurl, but the other two can't handle more than a couple dozen snaps a game in the right situations. I think we might end up starting 8 Canadians for some in-game flexibility, assuming everyone is healthy. The sooner we get Louie Richardson off the roster the better too. This move probably guarantees it, we've got a good teams guy in Ivan Brown signed too who probably takes Richardson's spot directly, plus draft picks and Newman. Potentially problematic, but we also possibly have the ability of starting up to 5 Nationals on offense, so depending on who's injured, we wouldn't have to even consider this as an option. I also think you'll be surprised of how Newman could get involved in more than just ST. I do agree though that starting 8 is a good idea if we can pull it off. Just can't assume he'll be anywhere near the same player due to the injury. He'll never regain 100% mobility.

Bombers sign Jamall Westerman
Thought Westerman was a tad younger, but 30 with 6 years in the NFL, hasn't played in 2 years. Decent amount of mileage with some time on blocks. Remember Riall Johnson? Hope Westerman is able to live up to the hype.

I'd be happy if he's ready to chase kicks.

Multiple 2015 CFL Combine Participants Failed Drug Tests
Good point. Wonder if they'll have to deal with what Waterloo did. Probably not, given how massive that program is to the AUS.

Multiple 2015 CFL Combine Participants Failed Drug Tests
Agreed. Weird that a guy like Abankwah would take what the East German swimmers did. Usually expect it more from LB/DL/OL/FB types.

Bombers sign Jamall Westerman
Adding a Canadian end who presumably can play 35-40 snaps a game is big. Thomas should be able to handle the rest on the interior. Still need Canadian depth on D. I'm not a fan of the assumption that this signing means the Bombers have solidified 3 NI spots on D. We're still one injury at LB or DL from a ratio nightmare. Don't think this signing impacts who the Bombers will draft.

Who is your surprise training camp cut?
If Unamba qualifies as a surprise, he's a pretty safe pick. Can't cover anything other than a kickoff or punt.

Around the CFL Offseason Discussion
Haidara isn't anything special as a receiver. We have one named Carl Fitzgerald. Great special teamer though.

The fact that they are testing positive indicates that they can't.

Stuart Olson alleges Triple B, province knew about design issues at IGF
Not so much about distance as it is about getting on and off the campus which only has two direct entry/exit points. Will be interesting to see how they have it organized for the Grey Cup, with thousands of people from out of town. I also think they have a lot of work to do in terms of safety/crowd control after the games on University Crescent and Chancellor Matheson. Just a matter of time until someone is killed or seriously injured there.

Bombers release 2 vets
Peach is an average CFL player who is slightly less prone to boneheaded mistakes/penalties than Kuale. If they can't find someone better or at least someone as good who still has potential to get better, they are not doing a very good job.

CFL Draft needs
I think Harty will get picked before Addison Richards. Harty is just a ball player, he'll be a good CFLer even if he doesn't become a consistent starter. Richards is red flag after red flag. I'm always cognizant of guys who are bigger or more athletic than their competition vs guys who are good receivers coming into the draft. I think Durant and Richards are the former and will struggle mightily early in their CFL careers to make the transition, Demski is a mix, but has become a great route runner needs some work on his hands on some of the more basic routes, Harty is the latter for sure. I also think Shaq is going to be gone in the first round, possibly the second "skill position" guy off the board after Demski. Dillon Campbell could go high too. He is explosive and he'll be able to carry the ball in the CFL. Wouldn't be surprised if he ends up in Blue and Gold as that is somewhat of a need, that need and Campbell being BPA for the Bombers could line up around 15. Lafrance could be a late round gem too. He's got a bit of a McCarty vibe to him.

Stuart Olson alleges Triple B, province knew about design issues at IGF
This was entirely obvious the whole time in the first plan for the old site and then the move to U of M. It was a mix of politics from the NDP and Asper trying to make it seem like he could actually complete the project as he proposed it, even though he was hedging hard on two other real estate developments to be able to finance it. It's too bad that playing loose with the truth interfered with what could have been a great period of time for our city and province. It's become a trend here though on pretty much everything our civic and provincial governments touch, and that's the scarier part. Everything is so cheap when it gets approval, and then we get the actual bill.

That's a really black and white way of putting it. Many parts of this project changed constantly to be functional in any sense. Engineers are ensuring structural safety first and foremost, not necessarily function and cost. If there was some tragedy, like a collapse or something, the liability stuff would be relevant. This is about cost overruns, money.

New guys - High hopes? Low hopes?
Funniest (not haha funny) thing about the Wiecek issue is how he sees Wylie as the most interesting coach on the club. All of his quotes were analogies about kissing girls and borderline chauvinistic nonsense, not much substance there in terms of football. Kind of speaks to the type of coverage he provides/views as interesting.

Bombers Mini-Camp Roster
Sounds like the trip was well worth it. I don't want to start a new thread for this - does anyone know when single game tickets go on sale? It's been June 1 league-wide the last several years.

CFLPA Dumps Ed Molstad
Even worse than paying $1 million for his expertise is the horrible advice and direction he gave the CFLPA. That alone should have been enough for the players to seek new representation decades ago. I think Molstad saw the writing on the wall with the new executive and might have cashed in while he still could.
