  1. Higgins would be in the deep part of the shallow end we've been fishing in for coaching hires. My preference would be to pay what it takes and give title to someone who deserves it and is the best candidate available. Hard to know what the chances of that happening are, but you see the guys like Milanovich (the Dickenson of 2010) turn down interviews here because they know that they won't get paid a top CFL head coaching salary and that they won't have the conditions in place to do their job properly. Hopefully this doesn't happen to us this time around.
  2. BC's offence had a half dozen chances to end the game in the 4th quarter and could hardly move the ball against a pretty vanilla blitz scheme. BRUTAL!
  3. Chapdelaine is having a bad night.
  4. Chapdelaine abandoned the run and screen game with Montreal blitzing like crazy. Why?
  5. The point I was trying to make actually was that having a strong arm doesn't mean a guy will be a top QB. Yes Bishop and Jackson had more success that Dinwiddie but there are also QBs who weren't overly blessed with arm strength who have had a lot more success than Bishop and Jackson. Doug Flutie immediately comes to mind. Hell, Jeff Garcia didn't have a cannon for an arm either and still had a great career in both the CFL and NFL. Garcia was quick and accurate so he could thrive in West Coast offences. Also above average mobility. Just when you'd get comfortable with the Stamps pass game, he'd take a drop and then pull down a QB draw for a first down.
  6. Glenn was benched for 3 games. His huge September brought his numbers way up, but he had some truly awful games in 2008.
  7. Every CFL QB has a major deficiency, otherwise they wouldn't be here. That's just life. Most of Hall's flutter balls came when he was dancing in the pocket, if he settles down his feet those balls will be tighter. That said, he's a pure pocket guy with an average arm and a nothing special release. Tough to be a great QB in the CFL or even NFL now without being more mobile (or having a lightning release to run a West Coast) as coaches are designing plays with 3+ options including the QB taking the ball. I hope they really think Hall can win games, because if we are developing someone it should be Goltz.
  8. 1 correlation does not imply causation. 2 these shares do nothing to influence the organization or create accountability. It's essentially a fan club. The shareholders elect the board in Regina and Green Bay. The Riders have had an unprecedented era of stability and success both on and off the field since adopting their current board structure. I guess you could stick your fingers in your ears and say "la la la la la" and say the two things are unrelated, but that would be pretty ridiculous.
  9. Successful as in not finishing projects, getting paid off to get out of the picture and leaving the taxpayers on the hook? Name one successful Creswin (or more commonly 352833 MB Ltd.) development. There isn't one. It's a shell company.
  10. I'd take O'Day before I even consider Forde, speaking of lack of experience. Just because he gets on TV and can talk about football doesn't give him any management potential. NFL teams aren't clamoring to hire Mel Kiper Jr.
  11. Laugh all you want at the shares. Since the Riders adopted the Packer model in the early 2000s they have been among the most successful CFL franchises after being a laughingstock for decades prior. The Packers are clearly one of the most successful pro franchises in North America in the smallest market. The big problem here is that there is no accountability for the board. Private owner, Jets for example, their accountability comes from the fact that if they don't run a good business and team, they'll lose money. Riders and Packers, if those board members don't stay in the lines, they won't be board members for long. Here they just do whatever with only the board members keeping each other accountable, and they spend "community" money.
  12. Howell couldn't figure out how to play receiver in a decade in the league. He should be helping with special teams and little else.
  13. The OC in Lapo's world would always just be a puppet, like Baressi was. Lapo wants to be a playcaller. This setup rarely works in the CFL or NFL, takes a special coach, which Lapo isn't.
  14. Jerseys are UFL quality. Crap for a league with an actual history, especially for a team celebrating their 60th season. Paw prints should be avoided IMO. Hufnagel made some bad calls. Giving up a safety with 2 mins left to make it a 4 point deficit was the end of the game. Needs to have some faith in his special teams and defence. Also keep wondering why his 3rd best QB is starting. Dunigan tore a pretty good strip off Glenn for his wasting of about 30 seconds of clock on the last Stamps drive in the hurry-up.
  15. Assuming only rostered players are in the draft (not guys who teams own CFL rights to like Bilikudi and Mulumba): Greaves, Swiston, Pencer, Etienne, Kohlert, Muamba If Bilikudi and Mulumba are included, I'd knock off one of the receivers and protect Mulumba.
  16. The fact he could even get near some of those passes behind him is impressive.
  17. No leadership at any level in the organization, no accountability at the top. The structure doesn't work as it is, hasn't worked with hundreds of board members over the last 20+ years. Time for real change, hopefully the stadium debt and much lower revenue than projected will be the catalyst that the disaster on the football side for decades has not been.
  18. Yes, he hit guys that were open, that's not throwing guys open. Kohlert finished his route and caught the pass all by himself in the endzone with a corner breaking off his zone to try to defend, I'm talking about hitting guys on slants, digs, outs and back shoulder fades on the sideline while they are being defended, basically how Matthews got his 1000 yards last season. There were a couple brutal throws to Etienne where he ran a perfect dig in man coverage and if Hall puts it anywhere within 3 yards of Etienne's path it's an easy completion in coverage, but he put the ball behind Etienne right to the DB. Hall will throw a lot of picks.
  19. Aaron Woods? Need to find a way to get him involved on offence, he was a great NCAA receiver, and he's got that little ball of hate mentality when he has the ball.
  20. I'd be shopping Watson and Poblah for trade during this season. I don't think Poblah will succeed here, and I don't think Watson is going to last much longer, at least as an elite level player. He's one of those guys who is never really healthy, even when he is "healthy." If we can get a 1st or 2nd round pick for either I'd take it. Montreal has nothing at NI receiver and are probably going to make a push since Calvillo is near the end.
  21. I didn't see Hall hitting a lot of windows. He hit one nicely on a slant to Matthews. His release isn't particularly quick, and his feet don't stop moving (which might explain the flutter in his throws). Most of his completions were lobs to guys wide-open, or great catches by Edwards, he didn't throw anyone open. He made a nice pass to Edwards down the seam, but any QB with pro potential can make that throw. It was nice to see the ball go downfield a bit more, but I feel like Hall is going to have problems the more he plays because he puts the ball up for grabs all the way down the field.
  22. Anything Hall threw over about 5 yards hung out there, very Dinwiddie-esque. He'll have some 5 INT games. If we have any shot to win games with someone on our roster today, it's Goltz, even with his faults.
