  1. Tate has a pocket presence and ability to move around while keeping his eyes downfield that not many QB's have who make it to Canada.
  2. All it takes is one major breakdown. Had one in a one score game in the opener, very close to another one late in another one score game allowing a guy to completely reverse field and break contain. That can't happen, it wasn't a great play by Devine other than recognizing the contain guy trying to be a hero instead of forcing him inside. Much like all the turnovers, that shows a lack of discipline. I think it is unfair to the coaches (other than Creehan, Plemons and the DB coach) to say they are getting the best out of the players. Loads of room for improvement.
  3. If there is any truth to that with our offence, cover and return teams we should be very scared.
  4. So the game plan is to leave the A and B gaps open? Almost all of our pressure was coming right through the middle. They weren't blocking anyone, Calvillo couldn't even get his eyes downfield before the rush was in his face. That's not holding the ball too long. Montreal's OL has been exposed over the past couple seasons by our DL and others, even with Trestman calling the plays.
  5. 19-31 for 257 an INT and fumble is above average for Pierce in Blue and Gold, but not good on any level.
  6. The adjustment Montreal made was the same one they made last week. Put 8 guys on the line and run them at Pierce. Should be the easiest adjustment to make because he's got 5 on 4 or 4 on 4 away from the blitz. Quick routes and get rid of the ball.
  7. Great defense. Playing with tremendous energy, Calvillo actually got his eyes downfield only on a handful of snaps. So much for the big strike offence. Looks like they need to search the offices for any pages that fell out of Trestman's playbook with plays in it that protect the QB and get the ball out of his hands quickly. Our offence is brutal. Best drive of Pierce's Bomber career on the 105 yarder. Other than that, not a whole lot of positives. Our run game is poorly designed and disguised. It is rare that our back gets the ball with their momentum going north-south. The blitz was handled a little better than last week, but not much better. Matthews needs to catch the ball. No idea what Crowton/Buck were thinking on most of the pass plays in the last 4 or so minutes of the game. It was a miracle that Montreal did not pick one off. Need to work on basics. Carrying the ball, start there
  8. That can't happen. Then we wouldn't have enough NI's dressed. Why would you dress James Green over Volny anyways?
  9. Those options won't matter when Calvillo is on a stretcher. They were brutal last week. Their interior guys were getting shelled by Ryan Lucas. If I was coaching the Als, Woodruff wouldn't eat another poutine. Roundest gut in the league.
  10. High-ankle sprain? He was on pace for like 1600 yards and 16 TD's when he got injured in 2010.
  11. TJH also likes to eat. That's what really ended his career. Not a huge market for 275 lb receivers.
  12. Denmark already beat him out once IMO in 2011 when Carr was injured. I guess things could be different now, but we're also running a system different from the one Carr had success in. I don't see much value into putting Carr far away from the ball at the field WR because he's kinda lazy with his routes, has INT written all over it. I also like Doug Pierce, he made a lot of great catches in camp and has no fear of getting dirty or getting hit. I'd take all of them, including Carr, over Edwards at this point. Hard to run an effective offence when the slot receiver you target most can't get much done in traffic. We've seen that going on 5 seasons now.
  13. Edmonton is building a nasty OL. Too bad for Mike Reilly being able to block someone isn't a requirement, just a nasty demeanour.
  14. They have made a concerted effort in the past to have games on the holiday.
  15. Let's figure out how to move the chains first. Then we can talk about winning games.
  16. I have a real hard time criticizing run blocking when the majority of the run plays are starting with the ball carrier running horizontally and the lineman are firing out of two point stances. All they can do is get a body on a body and hopefully provide a cutback lane on those read plays, they can't get a push out of a two point stance.
  17. Hope Crowton is watching. The Stamps use formations that get the ball into the RB's hands going north-south or outside the tackles with a read for Cornish to make, it's one cut and up the field, the run is established immediately even though everyone knows it is coming, it is executed, and now BC is completely off balance.
  18. He was a great 2nd/3rd option to Armstrong and Stegall before the toe injury took its toll. There aren't many import receivers who wouldn't put up 1000 yards a season with the amount of times he is targeted. A great one would put up 1400-1500. He doesn't make enough of the tough catches in traffic (see Green and Richardson last night) to be considered great.
  19. What's wrong with Labbe? You need to have special teamers and Canadian backups. He's more of a WIL than a MLB, and has always been a valuable player for us on passing downs. You just noticed that Edwards isn't a great player? He hasn't broken a tackle since 2007.
  20. He was overthrowing everything. More of a chucker than a passer last night. Probably could have used more reps at game speed when you have to fit those throws through tight windows in the pre-season.
  21. OL was great IMO. The only way Montreal got pressure was by bringing more than 5. Too bad our QB can't make a hot read and get rid of the ball. Montreal's OL was having big trouble, even with most of their offence being quick screens and misdirection. Hard to blame one guy in this sport, but the difference between winning and losing this game is the QB position. Brutal turnovers, no drives at all. The only reason this game was close, and there was a chance for us to win, was the defence. Not surprisingly, they wore down in the 4th when the offence did nothing. Exciting game to watch, but tons of room for improvement.
  22. Count your Canadians! 4 man needs to be 3 IMPs and 1 NI to make the ratio requirements for our 42.
  23. The league's backup long snapper is working on an oil rig right now checking his messages, waiting for an injury.
