I didn't think I said that Hillary would have been worse. I'm just trying to point out that we're all looking at the US through our Canadian sensibilities, and a lot of what we are seeing doesn't make sense. I can't imagine living in a country that wouldn't welcome two Iranian academics with open arms to an academic conference. And I don't think most Americans want that either. But for every person that the media shows in the US as angry etc., there is a person who is happy that Trump is doing what he said he was going to do. And while I agree that these people aren't as vocal and so on the surface the US wouldn't seem as fractured under Hillary, we have to admit that there is a large fracturing going on. It's just with the anti-Trump that fracturing is out there for all to see. With the silent Trump supporters, it's a much more quiet anger. Anyway, that's just my two cents. Either candidate at this point would have a low presidential approval rating. It's unavoidable when the country is split right down the middle.

This is all I was saying. And I don't believe for a second that Hillary wouldn't have hammered those fractures just as hard, just from another direction. Come on man. Alt right. I still don't know what that means. All I know is that both candidates were extremely unpopular with half the US. You can deny it all you want, but it's true. Yeah I was just reading about that. He's essentially going to reverse a presidential order brought in by Obama. It's also telling as Trump used homophobia as an excuse for the Muslim ban. Apparently Pence wants to bring in the religious freedom laws he introduced in Indiana as well.

The original question was posed by Rich I believe, in that he was asking if wanting to see peoples' phones was going to cause a tourism drop. I stated that I wouldn't care and it wouldn't stop me from going to the US. Then you jumped into body cavity searches, and I said that I would draw the line there. Now somehow this has become a white guy thing. I should have known that that was where this was headed, and just hit "like" instead of offering my opinion on phone searches I guess.
