It's not that consistency creates winning teams, it's that winning teams create consistency. Being consistently bad is horrible. Being consistently mediocre is somewhat better. Being consistently good is what everyone wants.

It started with this statement, which is wrong IMO. Firstly, making the playoffs hasn't guaranteed the HC another year in the past, just ask Doug Berry. Secondly, there is a time limit on mediocrity. 8 or 9 wins gets you into the playoffs. O'Shea keeps his job with that record this year because they wouldn't want to pay the 2 years left on his contract nor would they want want to admit they were wrong. 8 or 9 wins again next year and you have to think about replacing O'Shea. Same thing if we don't win playoff games. Walters will give O'Shea the benefit of the doubt for this year, even if we don't make the playoffs, but would he continue to do so next year or the year after if we turn out to be a consistent .500 team instead of a contender? FTR: I'm not saying that we will be a .500 team going forward, that we won't make the playoffs this year or that we will only win 8 or 9 games each of the next two years. I am saying if these things happen, O'Shea should lose his job because you can't support continued mediocrity.

I'm hoping that learning more about CTE will result in finding ways to reduce it happening in the first place. Better helmet technology might help.

It doesn't matter who fired Berry and it doesn't matter that it was fairly obviously the wrong decision at the time. The fact he was fired after making the playoffs every year he was our HC proves that just making the playoffs doesn't mean you get to keep your HC job.

Of course he didn't fire himself. Berry was fired after 3 straight years of making the playoffs. Just making the playoffs shouldn't be a guarantee of employment. O'Shea should be fired if he has 3 years of playoffs without a playoff win for example.

SHOCKED are you? It wouldn't be the worst possible outcome. It wasn't 3rd down. It just would have made it 2nd and one, which we likely get anyway.

The next 7 games are the easiest part of our schedule. Edmonton is currently the only +.500 team and we have 3 games against the 2 worst teams in the league. On paper, we should win 5 or 6 of them, but the games aren't played on paper. Montreal has a very good defence and they beat Calgary, a team we weren't even competitive with. Ottawa has a very good offence and is better than their record. Those games may make or break our season.

I'd say it's by design. It's much easier to throw to a guy who is standing still than one who is in full stride. Even then, we're having problems completing deep balls.

Success Rate: 3rd in attempts over 20 yards. 10th in accuracy over 20 yards.

Those short dump passes to Harris are our running game.

When I looked at the schedule I expected us to be 2-2 at this point, so it's not any surprise that's where we are. It was a very entertaining game last night, but the same stories keep repeating. Slow starts. Get ahead. Take our foot off of the gas. Let them back in. Win or lose on a late FG. Quite frankly, I think we should win every game that we put up 40 or more points.

BC lost 2 starting DB's before the end of the first half. They were forced to play Bucknor and move most of the remaining DB's to unfamiliar spots. We took advantage of them in the 3rd quarter, but couldn't in the 4th for some reason.

DD had a horrible first half and the redblacks didn't take full advantage of it. DD had a great second half and the Als didn't take full advantage of it. Pretty entertaining game overall, but not what I'd call great football.

It was a chintzy call IMO but I doubt that challenging the call would have changed it.

I agree that you can't simply ask for less penalties because the Refs are there to enforce the rules and the players can choose not to break them. As for a max of 6 challenges... That's technically true, but the C'Mon center also stops the game on every scoring play and every turnover to take a look too. You watch a great play, then look for a flag, then wait for the C'Mon center to verify the play. In the meantime, the teams are going over the play on their IPAD's looking for something to challenge, which they often find and we wait for that to get figured out. I think the CFL got it wrong. Fans don't really want to wait after each big play to get it right. They don't want coaches being able to go on challenge fishing expeditions. They don't want fast challenges, they want the right outcome faster. Fans simply want the egregious plays overturned.

Jennings is a gunslinger and they always end up with more Int's. If they're good, they also end up with more big plays and more TD's. One of the reasons he hasn't been as effective this year is his O line. Put any QB behind that O line and he's going to make mistakes because he doesn't have the luxury of time to make his reads or of short 2nd down conversions.
