Zach was horrible last year yet he got paid like a top tier QB. Personally, I didn't want him back this year, let alone the one after that.

It was a very good day. Happily surprised that Ceresna signed here.

Crum is an example of running until you learn to read and he's thrown as many picks as TD's. I'd take him over Powell, not that it matters now that Powell signed with Edmonton.

Willy J used to be that beast until we changed the way we play D line & I didn't say Ceresna doesn't get double teamed, that's something you just made up.

Your theory is that pocket passers are the only successful QB's in the pro game & mobile QB's give the ball away too much. Let's test your theory using the stats for the 2 players in question: Gives the ball away too much? Powell - 12 TDs, 9 picks in 352 attempts, 1 every 28. Ford 29 TDs, 19 picks in 534 attempts, 1 every 39. Can't throw? Powell - Avg completion 7.8, yards 2752, Comp 69% . Ford Avg 8.7, 4651 yards. (Take away Fords extra year & he's still over 4000), Comp 67% . Rushing is is for running backs? Powell - Avg rush 7.4 for 257. Ford 9.1 for 1129. Powell gives the ball away more often, he throws for fewer yards on average, and the running isn't even close. Ford has a 2% lower completion percentage but beats Powell on every other stat. Tre has been the more successful QB so far. Sounds like they had a horrible coach to me.

Why would Ceresna want to play on our DL? His job is rushing the QB while other DL's take the blocks. That's not what we do.

It's not sandlot. It's not high school. It's not standing in the pocket going through your reads either. Highly mobile QB's can be highly effective. They can use their legs while they learn how to read defences. Trying to turn them into drop-back passers is the reason a lot of them fail & turn the ball over. Ford struggled with a drop-back passing playbook. Smart coaches change their offences to match the players' strengths. If you're not willing to do that, then don't pick a mobile QB in the first place.

There is more than one way to play QB & Tre can throw the ball pretty well actually. Way better than Streveler for example. What he can't do is read a defense. Edmonton tried to make him a pocket passer which was dumb and worked out exactly the way you'd expect. He may never be able to run the quick decision, short game. To be effective he needs to run his style of offense. Ride & decide. 2 reads and run. Break contain. QB draw. Throw deep so every catch is a first down. Why bring up Rourke, Kelly and Alexander? They aren't available & aren't pertinant to this discussion.

Only one of the things I want in a QB. Being able to run and extend plays are also things that I look at in QB's.

I doubt Crum or Powell ever becomes a starting QB. I think that Ford still has an outside chance. Our 2nd string should be a guy who can win games and hopefully become a starter in a year or two. Ford could be that guy and in the meantime, he would be a a great short yardage, change of pace, or ride and decide guy.

Wow, people would actually pick Crum? Based on Crum-backs a few years ago, I guess. Give Ford an offence suited to his abilities (2 reads & run or ride and decide) & don't try to turn him into a pocket passer. Let him do what he does well and reduce the number of dropbacks and reads he has to do. He would be at least as successful as Streveler, although that's a pretty low bar.

If NFL teams had to pay CFL teams for the players, they wouldn't bother. They'd just bring in players that they don't need to pay for.

I don't mind that he chased the money, careers are short. I do mind him yelling his opinions on the panel. Dude is a big part of what's wrong with the TSN panel.- 25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread
No I'm not arguing that either. If you overpay players, you're gonna pay for it, either by not being able to afford better players in FA or by going over the cap.- 25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread
Of course, I'm not saying that. BC got rid of Adams as soon as they could & dropped Awe to afford Sankey. They gave Rourke a bunch O marketing money to make his contract work, which was absolutely brilliant. Teams can 'overspend' on single players maybe even 2, but when they 'overspend' on more than that, especially at the QB spot, the highest paid player, then they run into SMS issues.- Blue Bombers -- 2025/26 Offseason -- Discussion Thread
