Around the League - Regular Season Discussion (Redux)
TBURGESS replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Sounds right to me. -
I'd say it's by design. It's much easier to throw to a guy who is standing still than one who is in full stride. Even then, we're having problems completing deep balls.
-
Success Rate: 3rd in attempts over 20 yards. 10th in accuracy over 20 yards.

Those short dump passes to Harris are our running game. -
Bombers @ Lions: Game Day Thread (07/21/17)
TBURGESS replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
When I looked at the schedule I expected us to be 2-2 at this point, so it's not any surprise that's where we are. It was a very entertaining game last night, but the same stories keep repeating. Slow starts. Get ahead. Take our foot off of the gas. Let them back in. Win or lose on a late FG. Quite frankly, I think we should win every game that we put up 40 or more points. -
BC lost 2 starting DB's before the end of the first half. They were forced to play Bucknor and move most of the remaining DB's to unfamiliar spots. We took advantage of them in the 3rd quarter, but couldn't in the 4th for some reason.

3 Stars: Darvin Adams - 2 great TD catches and more. Thorpe - I finally got to see what they see in him. Harris - Ran like a man possessed after the fumble. Happy Honker: Jake Thomas - Interception then hand off should have won us that game.

Regular Season - Bomber News, Developments & Speculation
TBURGESS replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
That was an interesting read. Thanks for the link. -
DD had a horrible first half and the redblacks didn't take full advantage of it. DD had a great second half and the Als didn't take full advantage of it. Pretty entertaining game overall, but not what I'd call great football.

It was a chintzy call IMO but I doubt that challenging the call would have changed it.

Is It Time To Professionalize Our Refs
TBURGESS replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I agree that you can't simply ask for less penalties because the Refs are there to enforce the rules and the players can choose not to break them. As for a max of 6 challenges... That's technically true, but the C'Mon center also stops the game on every scoring play and every turnover to take a look too. You watch a great play, then look for a flag, then wait for the C'Mon center to verify the play. In the meantime, the teams are going over the play on their IPAD's looking for something to challenge, which they often find and we wait for that to get figured out. I think the CFL got it wrong. Fans don't really want to wait after each big play to get it right. They don't want coaches being able to go on challenge fishing expeditions. They don't want fast challenges, they want the right outcome faster. Fans simply want the egregious plays overturned. -

Jennings is a gunslinger and they always end up with more Int's. If they're good, they also end up with more big plays and more TD's. One of the reasons he hasn't been as effective this year is his O line. Put any QB behind that O line and he's going to make mistakes because he doesn't have the luxury of time to make his reads or of short 2nd down conversions.
-
BC's O line is their Achilles heal, but they can make enough big plays to make up for it. They have great receivers, which means we can't just take one guy out of the game. They also run the ball pretty well. This will be the biggest test for our defense so far.
-
Gotta say I like Austin. Is he caustic? Sure, but everyone on his team knows exactly where they stand and that's a big thing for players. Hamilton's problem for the last bunch of years has been injuries. Last year they led the league in man games missed. It isn't any better this year either. If anyone goes by mid-season, it should be Jeff Reinebold. No one on that defence seems to know where they are supposed to be or what they are supposed to do. Right now, the Ticats are the worst team in the league. I expect BC to win this one even tho they are playing their 3rd eastern game in a row and it's the Ticats home opener.

Looking Ahead: Toronto Vs Winnipeg

Looking Ahead: Toronto Vs Winnipeg
TBURGESS replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I'm on the fence on this one. I like our O line, RB and Receivers in general more than Toronto's, but Ray and SJ Green can take over a game all by themselves. I like their defense in general more than ours (68 points allowed in 3 games vs 69 in two, 14 Sacks to our 4, 379 Avg yards against to our 401) and I'll take their coaching staff, especially Trestman over ours. I didn't think they'd be as good as they are this early in the season. Should be a good game, hopefully with the right outcome. -
Jennings is another QB who plays really well behind a bad O line.

Hamilton looks horrible. One scoring drive in the whole game. Huge number of big penalties. Looks like Rein-dolt's only a good special teams coach. Give him any more responsibility and he sucks. Collaros looks shell shocked. Happy feet and poor throws. He needs to get it together or it will be a very long season for the Ticats. This one was closer than it should have been. Take away the 115 yard pick 6 and it's 37-13 and that doesn't account for the Riders getting any points without the pick. Rider had too many penalties and made too many mistakes, but it didn't matter cuz Hamilton made more. Funny to think that the Riders would most likely be 2-0-1 if their kicker played just a bit better.
-
I don't agree on this one. Harris is a very good back who should be used more, not less. Dude's a flat out player who tries to get the most yards he can on every single play. Establish Harris as a runner and a receiver and the rest of the offense will come together.
-
3 stars: Dressler - Did everything they asked of him. Harris - Ran hard and caught a bunch out of the backfield. Health - 2 picks, but I still don't know who BLM was throwing to on the second one. HH - JFG for getting a TD, but why the heck are we trying to throw it deep to him?
-
Refs still call the D for PI when the receiver initiates contact. Gotta get rid of that too.
