  1. Hold my Scotch...
  2. There are many fixable problems, but nothing is done about them and the cycle just perpetuates. Example #1: underfunded education in First Nations communities Example #2: state run gambling facilities that create more problems than they solve One can say that these issues couldn't be eliminated. But it's easier to do land acknowledgements, issue Apologies and pretend you care by running addictions programs.
  3. We are approaching 1/4 of our population with at least one covid shot. That "should' mean a good number of our vulnerable citizens are protected.
  4. Our family doc phoned yesterday - my parents are booked for April 19. Rural clinics are receiving vaccines with which to run 1 or 2 day clinics.
  5. Not really - they were treated worse than animals for 15 - 20 generations - and that includes the post civil war Era. It is similar to the long term impact of residential schools - only worse.
  6. About the slave trade: America imported fewer slaves than South America because American slave owners treated their slaves 'just well enough' so that they would still have families. This was referred to as the 'reproduction calculation.' If you need a source - search for John Greene's slavery docs on you tube.
  7. We can't really tell a whole lot from the daily numbers. There is still a high number of cases from the north, so my first question is: are they still going into communities and testing everyone? Because with out the north, cases are under 100 today.
  8. Travis Rudolph / ALM / BLM has been moved to general discussion.
  9. At this point...no one will believe that it's only going to be two weeks...they have been bounced like that before.
  10. Because it is not that simple. It won't work like it did last spring - lockdown fatigue is a tough steer to wrestle down.
  11. He was running out of manure disturbing topics...
  12. The same fear that there is about other vaccines. The anti - Vax movement has influenced a significant portion of the population.
  13. There is a segment of the population that delves into the conspiracies. But most people are just frustrated with the inconsistency of the regulations. If own a restaurant, you better get every little thing right, or you will be closed. If you run a Big Box that sells groceries, you can stay open no matter what. People working in ICUs are commenting on the high number of travel related cases. Curbing that should be a bigger priority than shutting things down at home.
  14. There are certain trends that can already be seen: 1. Very few younger people had severe outcomes. Even a 50% increase is not going to be significant. 2. This will be mitigated further by vaccination. 3. Many people are still being vigilant, which will also help with keeping things stable.
  15. Most of them still won't get sick and die.
  16. I guess I felt the need to expound on some of their usual BS.
  17. My point is clear, yours, not so much.
  18. The education review will erode some of the PC's rural support. Ridings like Gimli, Selkirk, and Interlake have gone NDP in the past - there is plenty of animosity swirling right now, as it appears that smaller schools were not even considered. And if they were, the information is not forthcoming. The whole things is looking more and more like just one huge swipe at the metro divisions and the teachers' union.
  19. Sure you can ask for more - Desjarlais certainly showed more than that,
  20. It would be great to find another Patty Neufeld type - starts at guard but can provide depth at the tackle position.
  21. Are there any good OTs available?
  22. And no one will kill those 1 billion animals for meat either...
  23. This is all very interesting. We're not saying the CWB was completely ineffective, or that it wasn't more effective in earlier decades, we just outlined some reasons why it had gradually declined.
  24. You can't really believe that's the only reason the CWB was unsustainable. Do I like how it was done? No. Was it inevitable? Yes.
  25. Yes, Harper dealt with the Wheat Board the same way he dealt with most everything else... But the writing was on the well, no matter who pulled the plug. How is an entity going to continue helping the small farmer when said entity is not adapting to major shifts in the market? More people eating gluten free = less wheat Demand for canola = less wheat Growing corn and soy with increasing success on the prairies = less wheat A demand for high quality oats = less wheat The CWB was beyond pros and cons - it was rapidly becoming irrelevant.
