Darling is a UFA, so you would either have to be giving up a low draft pick for neg rights or have had talks with him and be relatively sure you can sign him.

Now even if you do all that, then you aren't protecting both Darling and Hellebuyck, so you will risk losing one of them.

Best case would be to sign him without giving up anything in free agency.

Ah good point, I didn't know that Darling was a UFA.  Clearly then it's a post draft move.  Regardless, I'd love to have him here.

I agree with the just of what you are saying here. This kid however has kicked around the nfl for 3 years and actually started some games. No small feat. He is worth more than 80 IMO. One thing I will say is a lot of fans aren't old enough to remember this league tittering on financial ruin. Rookies holding out, and old vets looking to get paid more stresses the cap for each team. I would like to see contracts that have incentives in them, you play good, you get your respect/ money.

Problem with that structure has always been if you have too many floating numbers, you can handcuff yourself when it comes to mid-season roster needs.

They have a really hard time putting together a pre-season schedule that makes any sense.  Our games are 5 days apart.  EDM plays 4 days apart.  Pointless.

3 Thursday night home games in a row in summer.  Count on sub-25000 crowds for those.  Lame.

3 Friday night home games which is nice.  Week 13 bye is okay.  Not a huge fan of week 1 bye... in the 3 seasons since OTT joined, we've now had to deal with the week 20 bye and the week 1 bye.  9 teams and we get the bullshit all the time.  I hope the CFL realizes we're keeping track.  SSK - CGY - TOR - BC - MTL to start the season.  That's not so bad.

Bye weeks are all cycled between teams as evenly as possible, so it should be a good 5 or 6 seasons before we see either a week 1 or 20 again.

  4. Home Games in bold.

    Interesting article from Wiecek today.

    http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/what-do-you-call-a-press-box-without-press-409363355.html

For those that can't get behind the paywall, apparently Chipman's box is within ear shot (in the middle) of the press box and he shouted something negative about the team during a game which one of the papers printed.

The next game, all print-media were banished to the edges of the press box.  Wiecek says Chipman feels anything overheard in the press box during the game should be off the record and their banishment is retaliation.

Who goes on to give other example from the NHL to NFL where media who don't promote the teams message are being punished by those teams in various ways including having their credentials revoked.

He talks about the trend of Sports teams hiring media in house to produce their own content and takes a shot at Ed Tait.

He has concern that eventually media that don't tow the company line will be blacklisted from the clubs they cover.

It is an interesting discussion.  One of the reasons I wanted to open this website is I thought it was important to have a strong alternative to the official forum that is "controlled" by the club.  Which is the very argument Wiecek makes.

On the other hand, the world has changed drastically in the last 20 years.  Where sports teams once NEEDED and relied on the media to reach their fans, the internet and social media has opened an avenue where they can reach their fans directly without the middle man.

With the recent departure of Kirk Penton from the Sun being the latest example, the writing is on the wall that print media's death is coming faster and faster each day (can you really blame Tait for leaving?).

I know I rarely read any news print anymore and when I do I find it stale (it is information I typically already know from social media) and uninspiring

Curious what peoples thoughts are on this.  Does Wiecek have a valid point here or is it sour grapes on him being sent to the corner?

If current trends continue, and the only people reporting on sports teams news (Bombers or Jets), are team employees (official website) and official broadcast partners (conflict of interest), are we as fans going to be missing any hard hitting revelations that the current media provide or used to provide?

Is this simply a reflection of the evolution of the world and the media at large?  Can the average fans through social media and bloggers replace the hard questions the media were once able to ask?

Just chiming in here, but but how do we even know that it was negative, when we don't even know what was said?  The article doesn't say what Chipman said was derogatory in any way.  We are only assuming it was since it does go on to state that Chipman has been " vocal with his disappointment during games over the years", so we are all assuming it was negative, thus also buying into exactly what Wiecek is selling.

I just read this on NFL.com... unless I'm reading this wrong, I can't understand what is going on here:

"Ronald Gasser, 54, was at the scene and told deputies he shot McKnight, Normand said. Gasser was not arrested, but he was taken into custody for questioning. Gasser was released overnight and not formally charged..."

This sounds like he's admitting to committing the crime, yet they don't press charges? Seems odd? I am reading that wrong?

Sounds like the guy has been released...

Ronald Gasser, the suspect in the shooting death of Joe McKnight has been released, according to Jefferson Parish spokesman Colonel John Fortunato.

Gasser has not been charged as of this time, though the matter remains under investigation.

Here's a "What If...": What if Franklin says "I want to be a starter..." and they really believe in him......and they deal Reilly instead? The guy hasn't exactly been the picture of health....if they really believe Franklin is going to be a superstar, it's not the craziest thought ever....

Too soon for that if you ask me.  If Jones was still in charge there though, it would be more of a possibility.

All I know is that at the old stadium I would park at Polo Park,  it would take about 5 minutes to walk to the car...  10 minutes to get out of the lot and about 25 minutes to get home.

Current stadium it takes about 10 minutes to get to the line of the bus,  anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes to board a bus and get out of the campus area... 30 minutes to get to park and ride destination...  then 15 minutes to get home.     All while sitting on a very uncomfortable school bus cramped to all hell.

For myself I could walk far away and park at a distance...  though usually I'm with my dad who is 70 with bad knees so it's really not an option for him.

It's just a poor choice of placing the stadium,  they should of had it more centralized (for us North City Folk)  and choose a location that has way more exit points.    This would of helped increase ticket sales for the old timers who don't want to waste 2 - 3 hours in transport time just to go see a Bomber game.

There are two options I might suggest for you and your dad the next time you come to a game.  These go for anyone really:

    1) Park in the value lot at the back of the university.  It's only $10.  You park farther away but there are shuttles that come every 10 minutes that drop you off right in front of the stadium.  And then because you are at the back at the end of the game, getting out is always quicker.  It has worked very well, and a lot of people speak highly of it.

    2) If you park in a private lot along Pembina, between Chancellor and University, you can use the Running Back Shuttle free of charge.  It also takes you right to the bus drop off area.

I was also thinking during the kick also that because of the fake in the first game to Dressler that BC was going to have to line up wide across the line to prevent a fake. With them being so wide there was not going to be much push up the middle and Medlock could hit it low and hard. It looked like he got under it a bit and it went high instead of being a line drive.

He definitely got under it.  One of the potential side effects of using a tee.
