  1. I'll say one thing - I'd rather have Lapo than be searching for guys like BC and Edmonton are now stuck doing.
  2. He's been fired as an offensive coordinator once, just for the record. I'm not going to run him down for the job he did for us as a head coach because frankly, it has very little to do with being an offensive coordinator. The thing about coordinators is that unlike a head coaching position, you can make serious strides in re-inventing yourself. What we need is X's and O's and what can be brought to the table on that level can evolve. LaPolice has always been an offensive genius as far as building a playbook, he's got a great mind for how to build little wrinkles into a successful offense to make it unique and give defenses different looks. His problem has always been game management and the ability to call plays. Unlike being a head coach, where it's almost a matter of "if you've got it, you've got it and if you don't, you can't learn it", play calling can be improved upon substantially. Even the best offensive coordinators in the NFL have been fired for being terrible. Look at Josh McDaniels - he was magic with the Patriots, then did an awful job as the head guy in Denver and wasn't asked to return in St. Louis. Look at Norv Turner. Minnesota is the 6th team he has been OC for, despite never lasting more than 3 years anywhere. I'm not sold on LaPolice either, but I look around the CFL and see a real lack of options. My guy was Marcus Brady, but he doesn't seem to have been available and even he was a question mark. All I can hope for is that LaPolice evolved from his previous mindset. He has better personnel to work with this time around, that's for sure. And I'm sure not going to write off the efforts that he has made to improve himself just because Bellefeuille did the same thing and turned out to be a dud. Go Lapo. (For now)
  3. If I'm Jones, I'm not rolling with Durant as my QB. No way.
  4. I think that's pretty cool that they recorded him announcing the extension. I wonder if they're going to have him announce that he's taking over Picard's job when they cut him.
  5. Then I'm sure I won't like it.
  6. I don't know if I like it - the CFL one, anyways (can't view the Bombers site right now, it's down)
  7. Even if what you're saying is true, which it isn't, what value does saying it (for the umpteenth time, no less) add to any conversation around here? We get it. You're miserable. Move on.
  8. Whenever people complain about Lapolice, I keep going back to the fact that the last time he was here, he was scheming for a very underwhelming quarterback. I keep going back to the fact that people criticized him for playing it safe, but that only seemed to be when Pierce was QB - Elliott used to be able to sling it and attack defenses just fine. Here's where I'm at with things - If we hire Lapolice and he calls plays for Willy like he did for Elliott, we should be in for a pretty decent offensive attack.
  9. I wouldn't go in on Laurent unless I'm absolutely positive Bilukidi isn't an option. I'd rather have Capicciotti
  10. I'm not a fan of the scouting either, but let's be honest - they also got Cotton, Marshall, Daniels, Bruce Johnson.
  11. Saskatchewan, as Durant turns the next page on his career.
  12. I don't think you technically HAVE to allow anyone out of their contract for anything but a promotion to HC. Doubt Khari has a deal beyond December 31st, so maybe he just wants this month in order to try and sort his own **** out.
  13. You don't think the starting qb should be heard before hiring an oc? The team should be run by management, not by the players. Asking Willy for his opinion of coaches he's worked under is fine. Asking his opinion of coaches he hasn't worked under... not so much. Giving him a yay or nay? Nope. What are you even arguing, nobody has suggested what you're arguing against. And if you think they don't consult franchise QBs before making hires that directly affect them, you're sorely mistaken. Is it the final, deciding factor? In some cases. Not in all.
  14. You should. The CFL is a constantly evolving league. Would you want Wally Buono as a head coach these days? I sure wouldn't. Why? Because the game has passed him by, and there's an argument to be made that the same thing has happened to Cortez. Cortez wouldn't be my first choice. Like I said ... if Willy likes him enough, fine. But I'm wary of hiring him.
  15. The only way I'm board with a Cortez signing is if Willy is. He would know. But I'm not particularly fond of Cortez lately. One thing worth considering - O'Shea really wants Maas and Ottawa said no, but I'm pretty sure Maas only signed a one year deal as an assistant, therefore his contract would be up December 31st. EDIT: nvm it's a 2 year
  16. Tedford out in BC, Cortez soon to follow. And no, we don't want Cortez. The game has passed him by.
  17. Claybrooks will get the Calgary job. Status quo for those guys.
  18. I'm sure a lot of it goes back to Edmonton being that team to hate with their Evil Empire schtick, but is there any other reason anyone was cheering for Ottawa? I was cheering for Edmonton, mainly because they had some Manitoba boys (Eddie Steele, Donny O), their Bomber alumni were far more likeable than Ottawa's and I can't stand Jovon Johnson or Henry Burris.
  19. What would one have to do with the other?
  20. I really don't think this ends up happening.
  21. I don't understand the timeline on things like this. If he's like a "free" draft pick, how did he only get added to a negotiation list two weeks ago. According to the article, he was 2014 eligible, not 2015, which means he's been a free agent for essentially 18 months or so. I think that's a mistake by Dunk though, because Rush attended the regional combine in 2015 and was apparently a draft eligible player at that point. I had heard about this deal a few days ago and I don't understand how it happened, but it's a good pickup for us.
  22. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/industry-news/marketing/cfl-rebranding-to-show-new-fans-what-were-made-of/article27500542/?cmpid=rss1&click=sf_globe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ-TODedlzs&feature=youtu.be I like it. If the minimalist, simple approach to the new CFL logo is the same approach they take when rebranding the uniforms, I think we're in for a pretty good rebranding.
  23. Oh and just to add on one more thing - Orridge and the rest of the CFL executives will be unveiling an entirely rebranded league today at the State of the League address. New logo. New slogan. New marketing approach to attract a younger fanbase. New uniforms. New everything. Sounds like he's been fairly busy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pQ-TODedlzs&feature=youtu.be
  24. Go figure Yup. Thats it, I just gloss over everything and cherry pick good stuff. You said it yourself. Its his first year. How is games sucking on him? Ditto attendance or tv viewership. you are blaming him for things beyond his control happening on his first year. Drug policy, ok sure but he still has to get that past the cflpa. Rogers screwing over the argos? You expect a league commish whos league is what.. 10% of value of said company to pick a fight with that company? Talk about david and goliath. Him getting the argos into a new venue is a win in that regard to me. Like I said. Its no surprise the doom n gloomers are staring reallllly hard to find faults in how hes functioned. Look, you call them doom & goomers, I don't. They're realists. Not having a drug policy is an embarrassment. Let alone speaks to how the CFL views player safety. Players get suspended for PEDS usage in the CIS & the CFL ignores it. Nearly a year later & nothing is done. How hard is it for Orridge to push for the CFL honouring all CIS suspensions? That should be Job 1 on his agenda working with the CFLPA yet not one word this season came out of his office on either doping or drug suspensions.. Another issue is he had staff that were there in the Commissioners Office that worked for Cohon. They know the issues on doping & suspensions so why wouldn't they keep working these 2 issues knowing a new man/woman was going to be hired? I can't believe everything just came to a screaching halt the day Mark Cohon cleaned out his desk & said goodbye. As far as fighting Rogers, I don't know. At least come out publicly & say SOMETHING instead of nothing. For the dwindling Argo fanbase who support that team & deserve a lot better. I'd be interested if the CFL & their lawyers at the very least looked at the fine print on the lease agreement the Argos had with the Rogers Centre to see if the turnaround time they claim the place needed to be converted from a baseball field to a football field wasn't breached. The very least Orridge could have done was come out of his office to catch some air & go around the CFL promoting the league. If nothing else, to get on tv & use other media outlets locally & nationally to let the fans get to know him. Yet there he was in one of the Toronto Liberals MP's offices election night on CBC backing the winner & doing interviews. Do I care if he voted Liberal & were happy they won? If anything, I don't want to know his politics & who he voted for.To me, he hasn't done anything to stand out. Maybe he'll be a late bloomer & grow into the job but so far a lot of people are still asking who is this guy? Oh, one last thing, I never should have said "butterflies & sunshine" when describing how you feel about the Bombers & CFL. I was out of line. You're truly a great fan. I may not agree with you at times but I respect your opinions. http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/11/26/dirty-grey-cup-congratulations-cfl-you-went-an-entire-season-without-drug-testing Quite honestly, he's done a lot of what you've been asking him to do and you've just been too busy complaining about him to notice.
