As an Oregon fan, I'm not really sold on Adams as a pro QB. He's got some serious flaws in his game that will make his transition into the pros a rocky one, if you ask me. That being said, he is very well suited for the CFL IF he can work past those technical issues and a few personal question marks. First rounder though ... jeez what a joke

As far as problems go in the overall scheme of things, our Canadian depth is literally the least of my worries. We'll be starting 3 NI OL, Harris, Shologan, Westerman and Kohlert - that leaves us Hurl, Bucknor, Thomas and Waggoner as what I'd call flexible depth on the defensive side of the ball and our OL would be in alright shape if we have to trot Jeff Keeping out there as well. Add in guys like Corney, Derek Jones, Loffler to take some defensive snaps as well and I feel pretty happy about the Canadian contingent on our team. But I suppose I don't blame you for suggesting we don't play an American kicker - we're a playoff team more times than not with Medlock doing our placekicking last year.

You're largely overstating the impact of a Canadian kicker towards the ratio. You act as if it counts as a number towards the seven starters. It doesn't.

You can see it in all of the pictures posted in this thread from the press conference.

Honestly, the only guy I see getting picked is Francis. Gallo hasn't played football since 2014 and he was an underweight offensive lineman with a minimal resume at a lower level university. Tizzard may get a look because of his long snapping ability, I suppose. Francis at least strikes me as a guy who has athletic potential.

If Laine isn't a Jet, it's because Matthews is. Not because Puljujarvi is. That's no slight on Puljujarvi either, by all accounts he's a hell of a hockey player. He impressed me a ton during the WJC. I'm not worried about the judgment calls. I don't expect their judgment to be perfect. What I do expect is that if there's a situation where the application of the rule is black and white i.e. it's either an illegal formation or it's not, you better believe I expect perfection. Those are the type of calls that cost people money, or worse yet, jobs. There are supposed to be checks and balances in place to prevent those mistakes from being made. I don't want any more statements of "oopsie daisy we goofed and cost your team a game" the following Monday. I want the rules applied properly.

I don't know in what world you could possibly say Rush is better until they actually both get out on the field, but I suspect this is you just jumping the gun on a guy like Gauthier because you didn't like the pick to begin with and now your opinions are going to be crafted to fit that agenda. I honestly don't know who is better between Rush or Gauthier, I'm sure the coaching staff doesn't either until they both get into camp and start to absorb the roles and responsibilities our staff will want them to look after ... but hey, whatever floats your boat. I really like the Gauthier pick for what it's worth. Every guy like a James Green, Marc Beswick or Daryl Townsend has a role in the CFL and with the build of our roster right now, I'm happy to see us bring in a guy who brings those attributes and a reckless abandon on specials.
