Jake Thomas is by no means our biggest problem. But he’s the most glaring example of roster negligence we can possibly ever imagine having. We start him and it’s not even ratio related. He could be replaced by an American tomorrow and it would not affect the ratio one bit. Unless our team is admitting they’re not putting out the best possible roster, the only explanation for this is that we can somehow not find a better DT down south than Jake Thomas.

I’m just irritated with yet another terrible handling of free agency dollars. Sign a guy to decent money, healthy scratch (aka pay him against the cap to do nothing) and then move him to the PR where we definitely also still paid his full salary and then cut him for the playoff run. What the hell was the overall plan for this guy?

I honestly can’t figure your attention span out. You literally said the changes are no big deal like .. two posts in the thread before this.

The thing is - and I haven’t heard anyone mention this yet - if they wanted to go full American, they could’ve and didn’t even with the rules they did adjust. They made the end zones 15 yards, not 10. They made the play clock 35 seconds, not 40. They kept the width of the field and the rouge, they just slightly altered other aspects of those two categories.

I don’t think it’s the changing of the rules. I’m sure it’s not lost on any one of these executives that they are gaining 25 yards of space at field level - how do they use that? Field level patios? Influencer bullshit?

How many field goals are going to be returnable with the goal posts in the back? Very few. My least fav adjustment is the 35 second play clock. I would’ve been fine with it if they dropped it to 25 in the final 2 minutes of a game.

The part I don’t get about this is I literally remember the days when GCn would talk about hearing things from players because of working in the hospitality industry. I don’t get his obsession with doubting that players could talk to mere CITIZENS. I’ve had Wolitarsky in my basement for drinks, I’ve worked out at the same gym as Hefner, Suber and Willis. I’ve got to house parties at Swiston, Kowalczuk and Andre Douglas’ house when they all rented together. I’ve had to get Charlie Roberts a taxi home from the bar so he’d stop begging people for smokes. The stuff I’ve heard and the stuff you can hear as people around the city is out there. The interaction is there all the time, these guys aren’t millionaires with their own circles - they’re just dudes. Why is there so much doubt that Booch has similar access when we all know he’s got history coaching camps and being involved in training?

I honestly don’t know why you think that they’d be holding a press conference on a Monday morning to announce replay changes. This is obviously a much bigger deal than you’re making it out to be.

I think significant is really going to mean significant. I can think of one way they’d change things up … 3rd down and 5 or less, you’re not allowed to kick the ball. Field dimensions wouldn’t make sense - logistically too much of a challenge because of the teams that share fields with other teams (see: us) Going to four downs is the easy choice, I don’t think it’s that. If it’s not directly rules related, I wouldn’t be surprised if they announce they’re going to one division. They could technically announce that effective immediately, not that it would make sense.

About time the CFL switched to five downs

I agree with you in theory, I just think we are SO far away right now. I suppose if Elgersma comes in and turns out to be Joe Montana … Wilson, Demski and Brady is a nice three headed monster on O but everyone else is just so god damn useless. Our D is sturdy but has what seems like absolutely no playmakers. I guess you could call Houston a potential playmaker depending on what he’s got left but one isn’t going to be enough. I just don’t know what change you can make that is going to make us even somewhat impressive at the line of scrimmage.

I genuinely don’t think any changes we can make between now and the rest of the year can make any difference whatsoever. It’s too far gone. Start planning and introducing for next year.
