  1. Week 13 in the CFL kicks off tomorrow (Friday) with the rematch of the Eskimos against the Bombers.  Are the Bombers going to roll-over and not put up much of a fight with a repeat of last week, or can they channel the Banjo Bowl performance they showed 2 weeks ago.

Get your picks in before Friday @ 7PM here:

MOBomberFan currently holds the lead with 13 correct picks.  Myself, Tony Fresco, and True Blue are in 2nd with 12 correct picks, and Jpan85 and Mr Dee tied for 3rd with 11 correct picks.  See the leader board here:

    WINNER!!!

We were going to go with this until Buck got traded.  So close Y2C.

In all honesty, with the season we've had, it has been a tough summer in Bomber land.  I know there has been days when it has been tough to come on here.  With no entries in the contest, we went off site to get a new banner made.  I'm quite a big fan of it.  Hope you all like it too.

  4. I dont think anyone is against a game day thread. The dire suggestion of what will or not happen if we don't have one derails the conversation a bit.

I think we need to do a better job of advertising the chat room. And if that means having a thread created the day of the game setting up the match and inviting people into the chat room, we can certainly do that.

Curious from the out of towners and those that don't go to the games. How busy is the chat room for home games?

  5. I'm not sure posting chat logs are the way to go.  Chats are logged but only site administrators have access to them, so most of the mod team can't even see them.   They are logged pretty much to deal with abuse if / when a complaint is made and we need to verify.

I'm also not sure we need to prove activity during game days to grow the site.   People who come to the site during the game go to the chat room.  Most people I think know that the chat room is used during the game day, and those that don't figure it out pretty quick.     For those that don't want to use chat and want a game day thread, they are pretty much going to post to themselves because most people are in the chat room during the game, and not checking the thread.

I know you are trying to help iso, but I don't see how the lack of a game day thread deters new people who come to the site.  We have levelled off our registration to an average of a new person every day or two.  There really isn't a spike during game days, so if they are going to stay it is because of the forum discussion, not the game day thread.

So I will put it to the new registrants out there (or anyone out there for that matter).  Does the lack of a game day thread deter you from the site?  Has anyone thought there to be a lack of activity due to one not being there, or not being used?

  6. Personally, I couldn't care less what a coach says about the players as long as it's true.  Elliott was a turnover machine and Washington did drop the ball too much and Burke didn't have him returning punts for the rest of the year (IIRC).

I also don't care what Hervey said.  He was just being honest with the press, which I like.

This whole 'Throwing the players under the bus' is way overblown IMHO.  The players are adults.  They know when they have been playing well and they know when they have been playing badly.  They should know what their bosses think about them anyways.  It's likely not the first time they have heard the comments that they see in print.  They chose a public life, so they sometimes get a public dressing down.  It comes with the territory.

As for Burke's comments on Hervey... Pot meet kettle.

I disagree.  Coaches and management shouldn't be throwing players under the bus with the media.  Team meetings, one on one conversations, all that stuff is when to call a player out when he sucks.  Doing it in public to other people is not the way to foster trust and respect from your team.  There is being honest and then there is being stupid.

I know sports isn't a one to one comparison to the "real" world, but could you imagine if you screwed up at work, and rather then tell you to your face, your boss sent out an email to everyone in the company calling you out and berating you.  Do you think you would still have respect for that boss,.  Do you think your performance at work would go up or down?  Would you be looking for another job?

The best coaches / organizations are the ones who not only understand the game, but are the ones that can inspire and motivate their players to be their best.  They foster a positive atmosphere in the dressing room and with the players that promotes winning and confidence.  That doesn't happen when they don't trust you because they read in the paper about how much you think they suck.

  7. The only concern with revenue sharing is that it can become a crutch for poor teams and rather than work on their own markets might just say "Let the prairies pay for it" I wouldn't be opposed to revenue sharing in the CFL, it's small enough and one guy already owns 25% of the league and several other teams are community owned, but I don't wanna see a situation where a couple problem areas never get fixed because other teams are dragging them along for the ride.

I agree, I wasn't promoting it.  Why should other teams pay for all the people the Bomber's are still paying who are no longer on staff.

The topic usually starts to come up when there is a large disparity of income between teams.  The argument usually being that the league won't "survive" without all the teams, so it is in the best interest of everyone to share the wealth.

  8. The real question comes down to how much the cap goes up relative to the TV deal.  If the new TV revenue is split 50 / 50 between the cap increase and money to the teams, then it is a huge gain for all of the CFL.  If most of it goes to the cap, then we aren't much different then we are today.

They were talking on 1290 this morning that if Saskatchewan makes it to the Grey Cup (so include a home playoff game) and revenue from hosting, they could make 10 Million profit this year.  4 Million has been their typical profit.

Have to wonder if the revenue sharing discussions ever start up if the gap of profitability of teams continue to increase.

  9. The upset of last week was Winnipeg winning, with 75% of the entrants picking Saskatchewan.  A game I'm sure most here were happy to pick incorrectly  MOBomberFan is beginning to pull away being 2 games up and 2nd place.

Next week's picks must be in by Friday at 8PM when Hamilton takes on Calgary.

  10. Really wish the CFL could step in and impose suspensions .. stuff like this reflects poorly on the league.

I think you have to let the court stuff settle before the league does anything. People are presumed innocent.

Although that didn't help Aaron Hernandez. But the evidence in his murder charge is a little different then a brawl after the bar.

Not suggesting the ban hammer come down right away (have to let due process take place) but guys, found guilty, need to be dealt with. Not saying these two are in this case .. was simply making a more global statement (should have probably been more clear .. it's what happens when you post quickly and run to a meeting).

Agreed. If they are found guilty, depending on the charge, customs / immigration may make the decision for them.

  11. So does the code of conduct which got Tillman canned apply here?

Probably not exactly.  Tillman was an employee, these are players.  So the rules here would be governed by the CBA.  Don't know what that is.

Now, no contract is guarentted in the CFL anyway, but being past Labour Day, Anderson has been around long enough that his salary is guaranteed.  Don't know if there is a clause in the CBA for a "justified" release, or they would be on the hook for the salary.
