It seems to me that the biggest change is taking a lot of the thinking out of it. Based on comments from everyone involved it seemed like Crowton had a lot of "if this then do that" built in and maybe our players just can't handle that.
thats true.. he said.crowtons offense had extra stuff for the players to attempt to follow and not simply one set play..
crowton out-thunk himself out of a job it sounds like... but i am curious, were they that confounding or are our offensive players that dense?
Doesn't necessarily mean either. One of the issues when you have that many options is that the QB and receiver have to be on the same page. They have to be able to see the same thing and make the same decision about which option will be / should be run. An even tougher proposition with the carousel of QBs and inexperienced ones we had playing.

Another game, another upset. With 73.3% picking Toronto tonight, Calgary took advantage of an injured Ricky Ray and came up with the 'W'.
With 60% picking the Tiger-Cats tomorrow, does this bode well for the Bombers?

This is the first part of Higgins bio on the CFL website:
Prior to joining the Canadian Football League office, Higgins spent more than 25 years as a player, coach and personnel director. Most recently, Higgins was the head coach of the Calgary Stampeders.
In his three seasons with the Stampeders, Higgins led the club to three consecutive playoff appearances. After an amazing turnaround season for the organization in 2005, Higgins was honoured with the CFL Coach of the Year Award for the second time in his career.
Before joining the Stampeders, Higgins led the Edmonton Eskimos for four seasons which included a victory in the 2003 Grey Cup at Taylor Field against the defending Grey Cup Champion Montreal Alouettes. It was the organization’s first championship win in a decade.
Higgins led Edmonton to two straight Grey Cup appearances and three first place finishes in the CFL West Division. In 2003 Higgins was recognized with the CFL Coach of the Year Award for the first time in his career. The previous season he was one of three finalists.I forgot he was the coach in Calgary that cleaned up the mess that was Calgary in the early 2000's.
2 - 3 years of Higgins at the helm might be exactly what we need to get some stability and get this team back on track.

Montreal was blitzing all game and they had no answer for it

Interesting start to the week.
Montreal winning over BC with a last second hope and a prayer pass & catch to get them in range for a field goal for the win.
100% of the entries this week chose ... BC.

Wow. Kick return for a TD Montreal. This is a crazy game.

Lets face it, our offense under Crowton has been offensive. Can you imagine the outrage in this place if we gave up a first rounder to get Reilly, then he would have likely of struggled the same as all the other QBs did. We probably would have still had the QB carousel we did this year, AND we'd be down a first round pick. Before we go wishing we had made that trade, lets see what the QBs we do have can do now that we have Bellefeuille

I emailed the HOF and asked them
Here was my question to them:
I have a question about some details on your website.
According to this page:It states that the Blue Bombers have won 9 Grey Cups. Yet the Winnipeg Blue Bombers considers itself to have been formed in 1930 and changed names from the Winnipeg Winnipegs to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They include the 1935 Grey Cup won by the Winnipeg Peg's in their history.I was wondering if this was simply an oversight on your website, or does the CFL Hall of Fame consider the franchise to have only won 9 Grey Cups? This was their response:
It is the same thing with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. They state they won 15 Grey Cups, but in reality, they won 8 Grey Cups in the Tiger-Cats era. The city of Hamilton won 15.
In the Blue Bombers era, they won 9, the 'Pegs won 1, the city of Winnipeg won 10.
Hope this helps. -
After our first week of play, we have two players - MOBomberFan and robynjt who were a perfect 4 for 4 last week. Good job!
A logjam of 8 players with 3 picks correct, and the remaining 7 with 2.
First game this week is Thursday at 6:30PM. Get your picks in for the week before then, as that is when the voting closes for the week.

Calgary / Toronto looks to be the toughest matchup to decide this week, though will Winnipeg show a spark of life with a new OC calling the plays?
If you missed picking last week, it isn't too late to get into the game.

Not according to CFL HOF. The Winnipeg "Pegs" won the 1935 Grey Cup. Not the Blue Bombers. It's 9.
And the CFL website says it was the Winnipeg Winnipegs who were nicknamed the 'Pegs. http://cfl.ca/greycupcentral/year/1935 And the Bombers website say 10. http://www.bluebombers.com/page/grey_cups
The Winnipeg Football Club was founded in 1930. Changing the name of the team from the Winnipegs to the Blue Bombers doesn't change the fact that the Winnipeg Football Club has won 10 Grey Cups.
Well, tell that to the CFL HOF. Because according to them, the "Blue Bombers" have won 9 Grey Cups.
The Bombers officially celebrated their 75th anniversary in 2005. This means the club considers itself to have formed in 1930. So the 1935 Grey Cup would belong to them. I would say that the CFL HOF is wrong.
It is no different then a sports franchise moving cities and / or changing names and carrying the history and records with them.

I dont disagree with you Mike. If the staff held a presser and said "We deem this season a write-off and will now audition players for next season" then they should not start Buck (though depending on what happens the rest of the season I still think he has value as a veteran back up next year). But I dont want to hear the season is a write off when we're two points out of a spot.
The QB issue should be decided in the off-season, training camp, pre-season games. And hopefully you play well enough that your back up gets some playing time when you're winning games big, the occasional injury etc. Isnt that a better way to develop than throwing every kid against the wall and hoping one of them sticks?
This would be true if Buck was obviously better then the other guys, but he hasn't been.
If Buck plays, it will be interesting to see what he can do with Marcel calling the plays, but I'm not holding my breath that it will be much better or that he can stay healthy.
If Buck doesn't give us a substantial increase in QB play over the other two guys, which Mikes advanced stat thread shows, then we are delaying the advancement of Hall or Goltz by one more year for no good reason.

I can't find the exact rules, but it does look like shareholders get a say in the board.
http://www.riderville.com/article/roughriders-hold-annual-general-meeting-20130622015438
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Under the governance guidelines, the Rider shareholders selected a new Board of Governors at the meeting. Returning to the board this year will be Chair Roger Brandvold and Director’s Doug Emsley, Robert Leurer, Dennis Mulvihill, Laurie Powers and Joel Teal. Shareholders voted in three returning board members Twyla Meredith, Wayne Morsky and Jeff Stusek. Shareholders also voted in two new members, Arnie Arnott and Randy Beattie. -

Each team may have a maximum of 42 players, including 3 players who shall be identified as quarterbacks and 39 other players, of whom not more than 19 may be imports.
Teams must have a minimum of 41 players, including two players who shall be identified as quarterbacks and 39 other players, of whom not more than 19 may be imports. Each team must establish a reserve roster of 4 players. These 4 players may be imports or non-imports.
But really, if you have no one else, why wouldn't you dress Buck to have him on the sidelines, even if he is hurt, just to have his input.

Fan, short for fanatic.
fa·nat·ic - A person filled with excessive and single-minded zeal, esp. for an extreme religious or political cause.
Most teams fans over pump what they have and under value what they don't.
It is what makes us passionate about the team. Just have to try and keep it in mind during the highs and lows.

...and should be spelt respectfully, now that he is on our staff.
We could just call him Beautiful Sheet.
I always thought feuille was leaf. Weird the google translate says it is sheet.
-
With limited practice time, he has to work with the existing playbook.
He will keep what he likes, and slowly introduce his own wrinkles week by week as time and practice permits. Play calling can also play a big part in turning the offense around as well as perhaps making some half time adjustments. As long as we see improvement in the offense week by week, then he is doing his job.
What he will likely be stuck with is Crowton's terminology.
-
Not a surprise, and I'm not sad to see him go.
But at the same time, we can't go a week without firing anyone!
-
Fire them all and replace them with the following group......at least it would be some what entertaining!
At least the food at the stadium would then be served in a more timely manner. They still haven't figured out concessions in all of the booths yet.

or buying merch
I know I've put off buying a new jersey, where I probably used to get one every couple of years (when you consider the 50's and 70's retros in the last little while).
Through in the fact that I have Jets jerseys that compete with my jersey buys, and they do have to be suffering merchandise wise.

no... people are well behaved here. the place has been self-moderating pretty well.
We actually just recently had our first suspension. But for the most part, posters here have been great, and a very civilized discussion.

Still not convinced Etienne is going to be a great Canadian receiver, either. Other than the Calgary game, that's it. Seven games finished now with only 14 catches.
I'm not saying Etienne is a shoe-in to be the next great Canadian super star, but going into this week the Bomber's best receiver was ranked 21st in the league. In an 8 team league, that is unforgivable.
Have to fix the offensive schemes and QB before we can really start evaluating the receivers.

That gif is awesome. Had to watch at least a dozen times to appreciate everything going on in there
