People keep blaming LaPo for Streveler's lack of success running the ball, he ran the ball 12 times and his longest run was 8 yards.  The Rider D watched the film, contained him and shut him down, nothing LaPo can do about that, it's on Streveler to make use of the tools at his disposal to move the offence.  He couldn't do it.

The Bomber offense is easy to defend and there is lots of Streveler film now. Riders closed off the edges and weren't going to let Streveler run roughshod over them again. They forced Streveler to throw the ball. With our receiver corps that equals trouble. Did Lapo plan for that contingency? Nope. Same old. No QB is going to be successful running Lapo's crap.

really well-written. As I just wrote in another thread, if I was to change anything it would be the OC. And I hear this all the time...why can't we find a qb? I thought we found one in Streveler, and while I haven't given up, I'm not convinced he's the answer.

I think we have to give him a chance with a different coach. Lapo is a QB killer. So is O'Shea.

Sure, it's like poker if you know what the hands are and get to choose what you are dealt.  It's pretty obvious what the coaching market is going to be and who will be available, it's not a game of chance.

True. I was trying (perhaps poorly) to make the counterpoint that you can toss your coaches (cards) and hope to get better ones. That's the gamble. If Walters does toss his HC card in for another one, I don't think there'd be too much backlash. Admittedly we pretty much know what's going to be available but it's always a toss-up whether we can sign them.

When even Noeller is unsure that O'Shea will be here next season I think we need to get our heads around the idea that there could be major changes. We need to play our hand well if it comes to that.

True, but the Bombers have been very deliberate in giving Lapolice the offense.  Hard to say how much influence anyone could exact on that guy, even as a "boss."

It could be a pretty significant mistake to fire MOS for not insisting on Lapolice being chopped.  There's more Tim Burke's and Jim Daley's out there than Mike O'Shea's.  If they have someone in mind who can push this team over the hump as a coach, go for it, just not sure who that would be.

To win at poker you can't just stand pat unless it's hopeless and you chose to fold. If you have a good hand and want a better one, you toss your worst cards in hopes of getting better ones. It might work, it might not. But it's your only chance of winning it all, which is supposed to be the goal, not standing pat hoping everyone gets a worse hand than yours.

Why do we always blame the coaches?  It's obvious that Adam's and Arbuckle are simply better overall QB's than Streveler is.  Once again many of you have been tricked by "fools gold".

Always the first the say told ya so but when he plays for a different set of coaches and lights it up you'll be nowhere to be found.

I'm sure you know much better than Bob Nielson ...

I think you're overly optimistic. Would you sign MOS to a 3 year deal with the risk he may never win a championship in nearly a decade & have only 1 playoff win go show for? That's a huge risk. The only reason Walters does that is because they are friends & he is looking after his good buddy,  After 9 years if there are no results then everyone will get fired. How do you sell another 3 years to the Bomber base? That will be a tough one.

You just do it. Sign everyone. Who's going to stop you?

When it comes to Blue Bomber history, he who cannot draw on the last 11 years is living from hand to mouth.  Look at where this team was at after 2008 & 2009 - the cupboard was bare.  Other than a 2011 GC berth, we had absolutely pathetic seasons after that.

O’Shea brought success and competence to this team.  To include the first two seasons just to make the point that he is .500, given the mess he inherited, is misleading.

Other changes need to be made, but the coach who turned this team and organization into something respectable needs to stay.

Meanwhile, we can keep lamenting our 9 - 6 team.  In other news, the Grey Champion lost to the predicted tire fire.

This is a good "perspective" post. We haven't lost anything yet. We are playoff bound and anything can and does happen in the CFL.

The only question is whether Osh wants to get back on this sinking ship. I know I'd run away. But if the organization is smart they beg The Trinity to come back and try to fix this with better coordinators...

A few days ago you said there is no way O'Shea would ever leave. What caused you to change your mind?

The Trinity IS the organization. They certainly haven't needed anyone's permission to fix things and we're going on 6 years.

Miller has a job, he can't do Walters' job for him. Walters has a job, he can't do O'Shea's job for him. O'Shea has a job, he can't do Lapo's and Hall's jobs for them. To win a championship each of these people have to be working at a championship level. It's hard to believe that that's happening. It all starts with Wade Miller and I haven't seen him anywhere near a Grey Cup since he took over.

Sorry but just pointing out what soo many people where crying and whining for, Strev to replace Nichols.

It hasn't worked out. Not saying its all om Strev but the masses got what they were cryinf for...now its not just simple as the QB

Don't be sorry, we're all PO'd and you are certainly correct in stating that the problem runs deeper than simply inserting Streveler for Nichols. Anyone who thought it was that simple is wrong.

Y'know, the players really do get a raw deal. Every week they have to lay it out there for all to see and it's very easy to point to their play and criticize. We all do it. The coaches OTOH tend to get a pass because we don't get to see what they do or don't do behind the scenes. It takes a lot longer to know if there's a problem with a coach, especially if he's being covered for by his boss. I really think we need to look at this coaching staff.  Even Bob Irving is starting to ask some of the tough questions and frankly, I don't like the answers he's been getting.

Dang, lucky we won any games this year?

I think you're just PO'd with this team and venting your anger on Streveler. You're blowing off the fact that Nichols won against inferior competition and lost against superior competition (Hamilton) just as Streveler is now.

  11. 31 minutes ago, Dodge and Burn said:

We won with Nichols didnt we?

Nope, Nichols didn't play the Riders this season.

Nichols' played the soft part of the schedule and his wins came against the worst teams in the league -- BC, Ottawa, Edmonton, and Toronto. Streveler likely cashes in those wins too. Nichols also beat Bo-less Calgary throwing for 0 TDs and running for 2 yards so he doesn't get much credit there. As soon as Nichols played a good team like Hamilton he was throwing picks and looked awful.

Why all the hate for MOS ?

The other site is worse. 5 seasons, 1 playoff win, his refusal to explain what is going on with his team in a candid manner, his blind loyalty to players and coaches, the smirk. Lots not to like about O'Shea, however, if you had to go to war with someone, he's a guy I'd want in the trenches with me.

just watching the highlights from the banjobowl, the way fajardo floats the deep balls a guy with some speed and ability to read the ball in the air like Alexander should have a chance to take the ball away if the Riders try and go deep.

Really missing a guy like Randle in his prime back there. We need a leader to step up in the secondary to stabilise things. I'm thinking Alexander is that guy.

Khari is 100x the OC that Lapo is...  frustrating to watch him call such a nice game and know what's coming in ours

I was underwhelmed when we hired Lapo, for the 3rd time, and nothing he has done has made me change my mind. However, if Streveler can find a way to make Lapo's playbook work by pushing the limits, we may yet have something we can hang our hats on. So much of Lapo's playbook relies on Harris, and rightfully so as he is a beast, but he is also a great decoy and a decoy that can block. If we can get the running thing going and mix in some vertical attack with Adams, Petermann, Bailey, etc. then we can light it up. Streveler needs to take Lapo's playbook and make it his playbook.

The Ti Cats will win the GC in only 2/3 of the time it has taken us (so far).

Maybe. The Cats haven't won anything yet but look to be a very good team. Lots can happen between now and the end of the game on Grey Cup Sunday. It's all about who is healthy and who gets hot at the right time. Might even be us. After all, we've got coaching continuity on our side and you know how valuable that is.  :10_wink:
