  1. Until Strev wins like Matty has, I will remain on the fence.

Im not blinded by how fast he runs or how many guys he runs over. Or how he looks in his inform.

Can he protect the ball? Complete passes throughout the tree?  Can he win?

The only metric that really matters is wins.

Right now hes just the shinny new sports car thats fast, whats under the hood remains to be seen...

I have long believed that mentally Harris is weak. Lots of seasons he has a great summer but completely awful fall. Good at throwing short passes but when teams tighten up in scoring range he struggles.

Yeah ok? Harris didnt absolutely own the riders last year in the semi....

    And hes won a cup...

    You're wrong.

Wonder if Edmonton sits back in coverage with a LB QB spying him and makes Streveler beat him with his arm instead of bringing a lot of pressure.

I think Edm will run blitz and spy Harris all night until Strev makes them change.

OR they rush 5 with thier dominate front and play zone and bait Strev into making reads...

Either way we are gonna get a good gauge on where or QB is at.

The 7-2 is in a large part because we played the 3 worst teams in the league twice each. That accounts for 5 of our wins. We also played Calgary with their backup QB and Hamilton with their backup QB for 3/4's of the game. The only + .500 team we played with their starting QB was Edmonton.

The back 9 doesn't include any teams that are currently below .500 and we will be playing with our backup QB for the next month or two.

    Good recap and preview?

Not sure what you're saying here...

Nichols may not have single handedly won any games this year, he sure hasn't done alot to lose games with turnovers on the other hand.

The Bombers success in the last half of the season will depend heavily on Strev protecting the ball and making teams not stack the box in attempting to stop Harris.

I see teams blitzing the **** out of us until Strev can prove he can beat it.

  5. Weather is gonna be nice for the game, I have my fantasy draft during the game, cant wait for Friday!

Im expecting the Esks to load up with people in the box and sending people from the edge.

Strev...here's hoping he can beat the blitz. Hope we attack the seem and second level over the middle.

I think we do enough on D and specials to win.

Bullshit, he can make every throw he needs to. Yeah his mechanics are wonky but the guy can make the throws. The question about streveler is can he make the right decisions.

Making decisions as a QB is fundamental, making the body do what it has to do to make those decisions a completed pass are different.  He cant make every pass in the tree at the pro level. At least to this point.

What im saying is, he may make the right reads on given plays, but he does not have the goods to complete passes  on a regular basis to be successful.  Point being , last game, the roll out left pass to lucky where he looked liked an interpretive dancer.

With our run heavy, high percentage pass game we are designed for Im not to concerned with Strev. going in.

My thoughts are he will make more mistakes and have a worse INT. to TD than Nichols but will also sustain more drives than Nichols due to his superior running ability.

Honestly IMO we have not been winning based off our passing game, we have been winning with Harris, special teams and defense, this won't change.

That only works when the QB can make the throws when called on, and when he can, make the reads and make the throws.

Because Strevs mechanics are so bad he cant make the various throws a successful pro QB needs to.

Strevs running abilty may offset the pass yards ratio by maybe 30 yards per game. Pretty much nothing.

His int last game rolling left was horrid mechanic wise. Did not point his left shoulder, he fliped his hips in the wrong direction,  he basically jumped, flipped his upper body left and used his throwing arm to huck it.

He has not shown he can complete passes in the tree at a pro level.

Sure he has some sucesss in bit moments.

But through a 4 quarter battle where you need a QB to adapt and make completions throughout the passing tree, Strev just aint there yet.

EDIT: After a Qb is passed 18 years of age its very difficult to change thier base mechanics....

Here’s the reality with Nichols ... he had a better than average (for him) night and tossed up three balls that were good looking - one to Lawler for a nice little gain, one to Woli that was just not executed and one to Matthews that the CGY DB made a good play on.

Rest of the game? Safe garbage. So predictable. Not scaring anyone. Not stomp on your throat, smash mouth, prove you can stop us, not nothing. Equal parts LaPolice and Nichols go into the conversation of why our O is so inept, but no matter what blame you wanna place where, the reality is our offense sucks.

Matthews didn’t forget how to play wideout, Lucky Whitehead hasn’t suddenly just forgotten how to be a weapon ... etc, etc, etc. We don’t use our weapons. If Grant doesn’t put two in the end zone tonight, we lose handily. Our O has been **** for a minimum of three games and the combo of play calling / QB play is showing absolutely zero signs of improvement. We may finish 13-5 but this year is not going to be a Grey Cup year.

as an aside, I always find it funny that people will crap on Willie Jefferson and justify it by singling out the odd notable play here and there when he isn’t elite but they’ll turn a blind eye to how atrociously mediocre Nichols is.

We dont have any qb that is gonna stomp on any defenses throat, or consistently throw down field and convert on second and long.

We can smash the ball as good as anyone though.

We have won cups with shitty production on offense in the past.  Why not this year?

How many career snaps does Streveler have that you’re making this very decisive statement? Unlike “Matty” who is clearly a virtuoso in the pocket?

Well, #17s mechanics are horid, does not set his feet when he throws, throws off his back foot, and as far as reading a defense, that is up to debate.  Aint really starting material if you ask me.

Anyways im gonna enjoy another TEAM win.

    Peace.

    1. No, he doesn’t.

    2. I agree that gadget plays don’t work for an entire game but to pigeon-hole him into that is unfair when most of his reps since early last season have been short yardage and end game reps. And he looked not out of place in three early season starts straight out of college last season when he was given a chance to be a QB and not just a gadget guy. At the very least, he moves the ball and the team undeniably seems to get a jump from him being in the game.

    3. Mostly see point two but I’d ask when hasn’t he shown he can do it? It’s not like Nichols is having even remote success throwing 20 times a game. Did the Stamps know what Arbuckle was capable of before he was pressed into duty? Again, not saying Streveler is the answer. That’s never been my rhetoric. Just that Nichols has been so bad that it’s hard to find a reason not to give the guy a chance.

Strev had very much shown he cant step back and deliver the ball consistently down field.

It's like people don't stop and look at what this team is built to do... they are the "trap" team. Play safe both ways. Don't give up big plays on D and don't turn the ball over on O. This team is built to let special teams win the game for them. Why are we shocked when they are coached that way? That means check downs and punts from the offense and bend without hopefully breaking by the D.

Stop expecting the kind of team you want and see what kind of team we actually have, especially with the coordinators we have. You will be a lot less upset in the long run. Just accept this team will always be in close games.

Winning aint enough for some people I guess?

I would hope so because using the Nichols playbook with Streveler would be beyond insanity.

And yes, I see him besting “Matty” at all those metrics. And maybe they’ll actually move the ball in the second half every couple of games. Bare minimum it will be watchable, entertaining football.

Sorry to tell you but Strev has the same playbook as Matty.

Sure he has his bit plays in certain situations but you cant rely on that for 4 quarters.

What has Strev shown that he can huck it 20 plus times a game and be successful? Something beyond it being "insane"

Look, I’m far from the only one who saw this from Nichols today. And last week. And the week before. You can’t win with a QB that panics so horribly under pressure. Tonight he panicked when there was no pressure! Sometimes the circus just leaves town for a guy and we’re seeing that in real time with Nichols. The D wasn’t amazing today but it was fine. They survived a short field after the fumbled punt and allowed two TD drives only. We can live with that performance.

And believe me, if there was even the tiniest chance O’Shea or Lapo thought Nichols could get them a couple first downs on the last drive to end the game, they would have kept him in.

How exactly do you see Strev succeeding beyond what Matty is doing? Yards passing? Points scored? TOP? First downs?

Will he change what Lapo calls?

  14. Nichols and his situation reminds of Denzel Washington's character in Remember The Titans, one loss and hes fired.

The anti Nichols fans at this point are rabid.

Matt did not shoot the lights out, not even close. But hes still our best option.

Strevs aint even close to being ready to lead our offense through a whole game.

Hes a bit player, any who think he s ready for prime time are dreaming instead of seeing.

If Big Chris is playing against Richie Hall's D I think he puts up big numbers just like Arbuckle will if Hall keeps the blitz happy parade going.

Blitzing is fine, and preferred in my books.

But, if you do that, you have to have the guys behine the front 7 than can play man up, and win the one-one battles.

Not sure, that anyone not named Rose,  can do that for us.

Either our players are not playing to expectations set but the coaches, or, the coaches are putting players in positions where they wont succeed on a consistent basis.

You mean like 2016 when the club decided to move on from Drew Willy and bring in Matt Nichols??   How many people credited him with the turnaround, and not Harris, who truly had the much larger impact.

He's passed his expiry date over a year ago as far as I'm concerned.  This erratic play has been going on since September 2017.

    I was talking about coaches...
