  1. One boss I had in the mid 80's 1985 & 86, was a piece of work. I was working in claims at hell, he was such an ass that I'll name the company... Portage La Prairie Mutual. This guy, wow. Talk about managing under terror & with a hammer & sickle. We had cubicles at work so we couldn't see who would be approaching our desks. This guy would walk around the office sneaking up on employees & admonishing them for all to hear if he thought they were slacking by yelling. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? WHY AREN'T YOU WORKING?? I DON'T PAY YOU TO STARE OFF INTO SPACE. GET BACK TO WORK!!!!" Employees were deathly afraid of him. My supervisor would sometimes go into meetings & come out shaking. He was a bully. A narcissist as well as a total & complete *******. I got fired after about 6 months of pure hell going to work in that toxic work environment. I remember my firing. Calls me in & says that I'm done but to stick around the rest of the day & finish off what I was doing. He didn't give me a reason for my firing but he seemed to be having a good time doing it. I remember looking him in the eye fromacross his desk & saying. "You're enjoying this, aren't you? He leaned back, put his feet on his desk & his hands behind his head & said, "Yes!" On thye way back to my desk, my super called me into his office & said, "I'm sorry this happened. It's not your fault". I asked him if he was happy with my work & he said yes which was the only thing that mattered to me. I told him I was never given a reason for my firing. He said, you were an Autopac adjuster & he hates Autopac. I started my career out of the U of M with them. I asked why did he hire me? He just shrugged his shoulders. I hope the guy had a paralyzing stroke or died of cancer. I never hated a boss as much as that loser. True story. But I never worked in an office like that before or after so it was an anomaly. I've been working since high school so after all these years I guess I was bound to work for some great bosses (which I did) & some very bad ones (like the guy above).
  2. This incident happened recently at 24 Sussex Drive under renovations. Exclusive video obtained by anonymous sources.
  3. It has been officially cancelled & I'm glad for that considering what we saw happening with no social distancing at the Brooks meat packing plant. If the Stampede had got an exemption, it would have been a disaster. As well as political suicide if a huge outbreak occurred. I feel for the vendors that will be negatively affected but I also feel for the owners of all small businesses who are already closed.. An example, is my barber who owns a hair styling salon. He employs five stylists. He's built a successful business over the years. Now he's lost 100% of his customers & income with no idea of when or even if, he reopens. I worry about him, his family & his employees. He may lose everything. I feel sad for everyone. The vendors at the Ex & Stampede will have to get in line like every other business suffering. They may not survive & there's nothing that can be done.
  4. The insurance company I worked for in Calgary back in the early 2000's knew if we were on the internet even on our breaks. They did not want us surfing the net even on our coffee breaks or at lunch. Pretty serious consequences if you did like a verbal & written warning first & then being fired if you kept on doing it.
  5. Old guard? Funny how age is always brought into the conversation in situations like this. How about saying it's all about what a person is used to doing. If someone like myself prefers an actual working environment away from home it's just what I'm used to as I've always had a workplace to go to. I've always enjoyed personal interaction with my co workers & I'd miss that working from home. Doesn't mean I can't work at home or won't adapt. There are tens of millions of bad & lazy employees out there worldwide that will take advantage of everything they can to get out of doing as much work as possible but still demand to get paid. No matter what their age is. Employers have a right not to trust them & be concerned about their output.
  6. #wereinthistogether and... #thechampishere...
  7. McMahon has become like a hermit the past few years. He used to be a workaholic & from all the stories I've read about him was he never slept. Recently, he had stopped running the show & attending Smackdown leaving it up to Paul Levesque (Triple H) to run the show. In his 70's now & obviously slowing down I wonder how hard this massive failure is going to hit McMahon health wise. It had to have taken a toll. TUP might have some insight into that.
  8. My brother & Nygaard using to hang out together back in high school at Churchill High. That was then. Like anything else, once they graduated they went their separate ways. Nygaard was just another Rouger in those days. While I've never asked my brother what Nygaard was like back then, I'm sure he's shocked with what is going on.
  9. Just too much overconfidence, wbbfan. Thinking the Stamps would just roll over for the Bombers in 2001. The problem was the core of the Stamps 1998 GC winning team was still intact & they were motivated because they felt disrespected. Nothing like locker room headlines to fire another team up. Football is such an emotional sport, I knew Wally would use everything being said & done that week to fire up his players. If a team chooses to disrespect veterans like Alondra Johnson, Joe Fleming, Kelvin Anderson, Vince Danielsen, Jamie Crysdale, Anwar Stewart, Fred Childress & others that is what happens. I was so upset that week wondering WTH Ritchie was doing as a HC not controlling his players. I've always blamed Ritchie for what happened in what was his worst week ever as a head coach. Still bothers me to this day.
  10. That's what I meant about the difference between #5 & below being huge. Vaughan was a great receiver to be sure. So was Darren Flutie, James Murphy, Brian Kelly & on & on...
  11. Well, kind of pointless to discuss this during a pandemic when we are freaking out having to go to the grocery store. You really can't have a logical discussion.
  12. I'd have no problem slotting Simon at #3 behind Pitts #2 & Stegall #1. And what is wrong with being #3 all time in the CFL as a receiver? That's still one helluva career & something to be proud of.
  13. Later in his career the TSN Hype Machine really tried to make him a legend. He was a Top 5 for sure all time but not the greatest all time. And there's a big difference between #5 & #1.
  14. I'll use a Bob Irving analogy, "One MOP award does not an all-time great receiver make".
  15. Man, that was a great team. If only Dave Ritchie could have contained some of those huge egos & big mouths during Grey Cup week they'd have been champions. Bolden ran his mouth all week. Real shame.
  16. We'll return to normal. The handshake will make a comeback as will hugs once the pandemic is over. We are creatures of habit. If wars can go on when we know of the ugliness & atrocities without seeming to learn any lessons then a simple handshake won't go away either.
  17. I'm one of those employees who needs the structure & discipline of a dedicated workplace. I don't think I'd do very well working at home long term. Now, under a pandemic maybe I'd have changed my mind as I'd be forced to but I sometimes lack the discipline to do well at it. I was an Independent Claims Adjuster in Thompson 30 years ago. I travelled all over Northern Manitoba. I had a small one man office & a secretary. I routinely put in 50-60 hour work weeks including weekends so I know I can work independently. But I left my home every day. Put on a suit & away I went. I didn't work in my pyjamas, not shave everyday or go without a shower. Being a school bus driver now in the twilight of my twilight working career I'll never find out if I could have made the change either. I always looked at it that my home is my shelter away from work or a boss who was a prick. (Had a couple of those). When I wanted to get away from the workplace my solitude was my home. I didn't want my work brought to it.
  18. I'm losing a lot of respect for the Calgary Stampede Board & their (so far) unwillingness to cancel the Stampede. Calgary City Council has banned all public gatherings to June 30th & the Stampede starts on July 3rd & runs to the 12th. So, just 3 days after the ban may be cancelled & the fact that BC has banned public gatherings such as weddings, etc till the end of summer, then why hasn't the Stampede cancelled? I've been living in Calgary now for over 30 years & I have to admit I'm getting a little sick & tired of hearing how much this City NEEDS the Stampede. When we had the floods in 2013, again all we heard was just how much we needed the Stampede. People's businesses, homes & lives were ruined but public funds that were supposed to go to stricken neighbourhoods or for relief were redirected to clean up the Stampede grounds for the Big Event. Now again we hear just how much we need the Stampede again. Vendors are saying they won't survive if it's cancelled. Civic politicians are saying how negatively the psyche of the City will be affected if the event isn't allowed to go on. Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi said that he had a dream. The dream was he woke up on July 1st & the pandemic was over & the Stampede went on as if nothing ever happened. Blah, blah, bah, blah. I just look at it is a no brainer. Last year, over a million visitors came to Stampede Park. With the US border closed & travel restrictions on international flights even if the Stampede went ahead there'd be nowhere close to a million people attending for 10 days. But let's say just 200,000 visitors show up. If just 10% are infected, that's still 20,000 Calgarians sick & overwhelming hospitals here. The risk is just too great. The responsible thing is to cancel. If the Stampede Board refuses then the City & Province have to show some guts & do it for them. Unfortunately, the Stampede Board is a very powerful organization with connections to the City & Province. Wouldn't surprise me if the Stampede will be allowed to go on with the Stampede as restrictions will magically be lifted on June 30th.
  19. It's pay walled, unfortunately. I only got as far as Luck being paid $20 million.
  20. You won't get any argument out of me. These are all foreign workers with little if no rights. Being intimidated by management into working when in quarantine is criminal.
  21. I'd love to see the 87 Jets playoff run. The 5 game series win over the Flames & the quarter final loss to the Oilers. Even though we lost that was some great hockey as well.
  22. Lirim made a mistake. Didn't handle it right. Most fans aren't Draconian. I think if he would have faced the media & owned what happened that fans would have got over it as would have his teammates & coaches. I just remember it wasn't just the fans & media who gave up on Lirim. Walters & O'Shea did as well. We all know Mike. He'll go to great lengths to protect a player from criticism or scrutiny but he didn't with Lirim. I think Mike & Walters were very upset with his behaviour at the time. Otherwise, he'd have continued playing for the Bombers & he'd have been re-signed. Yes, he was run out of town but I'm happy for Lirim that he went to the Cats & played well. Now, he has his NFL shot. Hope he does well.
  23. The Alberta government finally closed the High River Meat Packing plant.
  24. Not funny. Not referring to you Tracker. But the ass who posted this.
