  1. That's my guess too. I'd prefer Collaros over Nichols, but, I think Collaros will be in the east. I think Walters will do short, incentive laden contracts for both Nichols and Streveler, because there are concerns around both (Nichols - recovery from throwing shoulder surgery; Streveler - cool dude, tough competitor, but will he be a top tier CFL QB ever?). McGuire is a wildcard. Throws a great ball; athletic enough - he could ultimately be the best of the three.
  2. That's the key point. I trust Walters when it comes to free agency. He's mostly been on point, doesn't overpay and when he hasn't (like Chris Matthews, Adarius Bowman) he moves on quickly. Winning the Grey Cup actually puts the Bombers in an even better position from a free agent perspective. We have options, depth, and now current players will likely want to stay even more. Other free agents may want to join the current Grey Cup champs. Sure seemed like Willie Jefferson wants to stay based on his comments at the parade. We're in a position of strength.
  3. Watching the parade online! Love it. Streveler wins the day again with the comment "all I know right now is I'm lit"! Gotta love him. Nichols really loves Winnipeg and this team. Collaros may not return, but, he is a Bomber legend.
  4. The real question is when (positive energy, not "if") Collaros wins the Grey Cup for us on Sunday, is it worthwhile investing in a Collaros number 8 Bomber jersey? He may only be a Bomber for three games, but he'd be a damn legend if (when) he wins us a Grey Cup.
  5. First rounder is tough to give up. But, it will be pick 8 or 9 of the first round and not a fantastic draft year. Looks like the top end of the draft this year will get serious NFL looks, meaning we'll likely never see them in the CFL. The players projected from around 6 - 20 seem pretty equal in talent. Walters is also a very good drafter. So, if we had to give up a first rounder for a Grey Cup winning QB (positive thinking), this would be the year.
  6. Yeah, as much as I appreciate Kirk Penton with the only CFL coverage on The Athletic, and find his "insiders" comments interesting, you have to take them with a huge pile of salt. Even Penton knows this, hence why he often puts contradictory quotes in there. So many questions. Who are the insiders? Are their comments influenced by biases they have against certain teams? (spoiler alert: almost always) Do they actually know what they are talking about? Sometimes yes. Often no - like the early season fawning over BC, and how "insiders" blamed everything on the O-line coach and the Canadians on the O-line. Kinda missed that one insiders.
  7. I agree that Streveler is not going to get any NFL interest at QB. There are so many QB's coming out of college every year who get drafted or picked up as UDFA's. Streveler didn't get signed as an UDFA coming out of college, and has not really done anything to enhance his NFL interest at QB in the CFL. Let's remember, the best QB in the CFL was offered a back up role only with the Vikings and perhaps a couple of other teams. Not even a guarantee of second string. I'm not 100% sure Sean Mannion wouldn't have beat out BLM. I love Streveler as a competitor and a football player, but, he's not close to being NFL caliber as a QB. And this talk about him getting a look at RB, TE ... again, there are so many RB's and TE's drafted, on practice rosters, back ups. Do you think he jumps the queue over any of them? Doubt it. He'll be back as a Bomber. Not as a starting QB.
  8. Legitimate question. But, I don't think any starters lasted 18 games this season. You definitely need a capable back up QB whoever you sign as a starter. And if we're strictly comparing Collaros to Nichols in a bubble, I'd have as many concerns health wise for Nichols. Maybe more - throwing shoulder surgery - yikes. And Nichols going down has proven pretty clearly that Streveler is not ready to be an average to above average starting QB in the CFL. Heart bigger than the Grinch's when it grew, helluva football player, but not a top tier starting QB.
  9. Might be. There are so many moving parts in the off season in terms of free agents and QB's in particular. Collaros has pretty strong ties to the Toronto area, so I'm not sure playing in Winnipeg is an option for him regardless of the outcome of the Grey Cup. I'm just going to enjoy the ride. His QB play has been better than any other Bomber QB's this season. His vision, pocket awareness and arm have been very good. I like our chances going into the Grey Cup!
  10. Enough Steveler today. Go with the hot QB Collaros
  11. Looks pretty similar to me. Except Adams chose a backhand helmet swing versus an overhead helmet smash.
  12. NFL - Myles Garrett suspended indefinitely for hitting an opposing player with the player's helmet. CFL - Vernon Adams hits Adam Bighill with a helmet. CFL Officials - "What happened? Sorry, buddy, I was watching the guy returning the ball and must have missed that. So, you're still good to go there Vernon, keep playing. Hey, we'll watch the tape and maybe give him a one gamer. Sorry about that boys"
  13. Agree that Streveler could be a useful NFL player. I just don't think he'd get a chance at NFL QB. Bo Levi Mitchell was being considered as a clip board holder in Minnesota. Streveler is not even close to his level of talent as a QB. And there are so many QB's coming out of college every year I just don't think Streveler would be considered. But, he is a helluva football player. If he was willing to play RB, H-back, slot receiver, or as you say maybe a Taysom Hill role, he could do it. Honestly I think he would be the best RB in the CFL if he played full time there. Don't think he will, but he could be.
  14. Burnham's reception numbers will go down, but he should lead the league in jet sweeps.
  15. A lot of QB questions to be answered for the Bombers and other teams in the off season. So many factors to consider, a lot of moving parts. For now, I'm going to enjoy the playoff ride. We have a real chance to make it to the Grey Cup. I think Streveler is back in 2020 for sure. Not sure if he's ready or will develop into a top tier CFL starter, but, he brings so much to the team you have to keep him around. Interesting article in The Athletic about evaluating young QB's. Not a perfect science obviously, but three good questions to consider: 1. Is this is a player you can win because of, and not in spite of? 2. Do a player’s strengths outnumber his weaknesses? 3. Has the player had enough opportunity—with proper scheme, coaching, and personnel—to show whether he is a QB you can consistently compete with moving forward? https://www.theringer.com/nfl/2019/11/5/20941743/nfl-young-quarterback-evaluation-gardner-minshew-baker-mayfield-mitchell-trubisky
  16. Holding BLM to 14 points is pretty good. I’d like to see more pressure from our front four. They were the best in the league at some point. Not anymore
  17. Sad but true. Or Farhan Lalji. Seems like the only ones who care and are connected. So few scoops or information at all from our local beat writers. I follow the Vikings closely and it’s so much different with their beat writers. Sure it’s the NFL. But give us something other than moral stances on banned supplements as a CFL beat writer.
  18. Is Geoff Gray actually injured? No coverage on that from the beat reporters. I thought Gray was playing well. Plus. I’d dress two backups at O line
  19. Hey, Ed, let's not make a hasty coaching decision on a former Grey Cup winning coach before you interview LaPo. Do you like leading the league in rushing and short passes? WR sweeps?
  20. Could have been 4 out of 6 Bombers for player award nominees if Harris would have been selected as Canadian by the local media. At least their boy Miller made it for specials!
  21. Good point! Nice integrity as a journalist. It's like elementary school. "who are you going to vote for, and I'll do the same". Seriously lost respect for those guys. I'm usually a big defender of the sanctity of the local beat writer, but this makes me think, what's the point? What value do they really add in today's world? A good local blog site with some dedicated "amateurs" would be preferable.
  22. I came in hot on this yesterday, and today, I still feel the same. If the CFL wants to create a rule saying that any in season suspension makes you ineligible for any league awards, fine. But, no rule currently exists. So, the media's job is to choose the most outstanding in each category, not impose some individual, moral judgment in absence of a rule, or take some ridiculous "bad for CFL 2.0" stance. Your job was to vote for the most outstanding in each category, and by choosing Mike Miller for anything other than special teams, you failed at your job. If you did for click bait and hits to your site/twitter feed, well played. But, don't defend it as the right choice. It wasn't. It makes you look dumb. Particularly when Harris' numbers were so good. Leading rusher, 6 yards per carry, 500 receiving yards! And you chose Mike Miller? Still stunned, one day later. End of rant on this for me.
