  1. If I'm the Jays, I'd give him a three-year deal with a team option on the fourth. Over the past five years he's been a bargain, so I'd give him a generous offer, but not 30 mil/year. Four years, $100 million tops.
  2. Aren't both teams going to share a sideline? I saw a season ticket pricing chart that seemed to indicate that...
  3. I was kinda surprised it wasn't Turner first. Last year was is first year back from his ACL injury and I was hoping he'd get a chance to bounce back (or at least show something in camp).
  4. Not a CFL FA, but as a likely US college UDFA, we should take a look at Zach Vraa out of NDSU. In 2013 he had almost 500 more reception yards than Ryan Smith: http://www.gobison.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=6271&path=football It would be nice to get a WR out of North Dakota before the Riders do.
  5. Saw Hail Caesar on the weekend and I'd kind of put it in the Fargo category in the sense that it's technically a comedy, but you won't actually be laughing that much. The story was weak, but if you like the Hollywood of the 50's and 60's, you'll be somewhat entertained. Josh Brolin was quite good in it, and there's a hilarious corny 60's musical tap dance scene with Channing Tatum that is worth the time it takes to watch the whole movie.
  6. Here's an idea: put in-ground heating in this public area. Keep it nice and clear year-round. Couple that with patio heaters and you could have true three-season patios surrounding this thing.
  7. Or they could just not play at all... Or they could move to Canada!
  8. He's a terrible motivator. He does corporate speaking functions and his tips for motivating players/employees are a complete joke. If he's trying to motivate a junior high team, maybe, but for adults with a functioning brain, he shouldn't even try. Mixing boxing clips with football highlights? Really?
  9. When Revere lead off the game with a double and they didn't sacrifice Donaldson (and ultimately didn't score Revere), I said to myself "they're going to lose this game by one run". In a game of that magnitude, every run counts, and they messed up right from the start.
  10. "Red wave" doesn't have much of a ring to it. I think "Crimson Tide" would've been more catchy. Plagiarism be damned.
  11. Why wait until then. Do it the day after the season ends so you can openly talk to candidates during the playoffs and Grey Cup week.
  12. If anyone's interested, I've got a couple spots open in another league. It's a little more traditional than this one (1 QB, no individual defensive players, etc). PM me an email address to send the invite to if interested.
  13. If the NDP is elected the investment advice will be easy - "get the hell out of Canadian stocks". Not necessarily. I'll still hold on to my Dollarama shares. Probably even buy more, since that's the only place people will be able to afford to shop!
  14. For me, the difference between the Jays and Raptors is that I'm excited every year when baseball season starts, and watch the Jays a lot until they get into their usual 5-10 games back rut in late June and my interest wanes. With the Raptors, I could care less when the NBA season starts, and will only start paying attention when the playoffs near. Helps that I played a lot of baseball as a kid when the Jays were winning their titles, and never played any organized basketball at all. CJOB has got to be among the biggest media Jays bandwagon jumpers out there. Earlier this season, Kelly Moore wouldn't even mention them in the morning sportscasts, even after a win, despite rattling off a bunch of other random MLB scores from teams nobody in Winnipeg cares about. Now it seems like he leads off every sportscast talking about them.
  15. Well, with Drew gone for at least six weeks, we can take the 90 grand of cap space it clears up (33% of his 275K salary) and apply it to whatever offer Heenan would have gotten. If he's available for the last six or seven games of the season, see if we wants to come here for that amount.
  16. The Donaldson trade was huge. The Jays have arguably the best third baseman and the best shortstop in baseball. Their right fielder and catcher are easily in the top five at their positions, and their center fielder is probably going to win a gold glove this year. None of their other positions are particularly weak either. They are a very fun team to watch right now.
  17. Anyone else following them as intently as I am right now? They are on fire after the trade deadline moves. I'm a little concerned that AA left the minor league pitching cupboards a little too bare, especially with the Price trade. Even though they gave up the guys with the highest potential in Hoffman and Castro, I think the return was worth it, since Reyes had regressed so quickly. In getting Price though, AA gave up a couple of guys who would likely have been solid starters in a year or two in exchange for a rental. A very good rental, but a rental none the less. Without the Price move, I'm not sure if the Tulo and Revere moves alone would have provided the morale boost and buzz that we're seeing now that could propel them into the playoffs. The positive thing is that we have most of our current position players returning next year, which will ensure very good defensive play and offensive continuity, but it will be a challenge to pull together a complete starting rotation and bullpen without being pretty active in free agency. Pitchers currently on the roster who they have no control over include Estrada, Buhrle, Price, Hawkins, and Lowe.
  18. Best two morning cartoons of the early 90s were the Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. I remember watching those two almost every day before rushing to catch the school bus. After school in that era I was a big Tail Spin fan. When that plane flew sideways between those two cliffs in the intro, that was awesome. Used to immitate that move with Lego airplanes all the time. I think The Simpsons only went into afternoon syndication a little later (96 or 97 ish?).
  19. Do you throw the bones over your shoulder too? I like to take his lead and eat my grapes off the bunch like it's one big piece of fruit, rather than pulling them off one at a time.
  20. Back in September 1995 we signed some unknown guy named Milton Stegall after he was injured in the preseason and cut by the Packers...
