I doubt Crum or Powell ever becomes a starting QB. I think that Ford still has an outside chance. Our 2nd string should be a guy who can win games and hopefully become a starter in a year or two. Ford could be that guy and in the meantime, he would be a a great short yardage, change of pace, or ride and decide guy.

I don’t think many people here consider ford a legitimate qb. We’ve seen him handed a team several times in multiple situations with talent around him and he just floundered. I don’t think you give up on that guy entirely, But I think he needs to provide strong value and hedge his roster spot vs an american. It’s not hard at all to find a comparable running talent at qb to ford down south. 5200 yards, 16 tds 16 ints 3 years 53 games 7.8 ypa 4651 yards, 29 TDS 19 ints, 4 years 60 games 8.7 ypa Then you add fords rushing yards, it’s pretty lopsided in fords favor. But ford has been handed the starting spot 3 times, and hand better talent around him. Crum fell into starts in awful situations. Crum never had as good a co as fords worst. And awful rb talent. comparable wrs, ol prett similar too. If I had to pick one i’d take ford, but that’s also based on being able to use him in other roles and as a gimmick guy. I wouldn’t bet on ford becoming a regular starting qb. The list of available qbs is beyond ugly this year. Powell is the guy i’d want. after that it’s fliers on guys like evans, maier, and ford. Then you have the pitiful remains of mbts career, and an even uglier pile of scrap heap guys. Even at that, I’d have no interest in maier.

Why not give him a chance coaching before we judge him? I mean yeah as a player he needed to be gone earlier than he was... but pluggers becoming coaches is a tale as old as time.

There should be no stigma. Direct your disdain for his usage where it belongs. He may very well be an excellent DL coach but many here are writing him off simply because of his name and that is over the top.

I like Crum but wouldn't want him either. If Powell were to shake loose tho.

For me, it's nothing personal against Jake The Person. I know that he's is a nice guy. I'd probably like him if I ever met him. Unfortunately, it has everything to do with Jake The Player & now Jake The Coach. Thomas was given the starting DT position for years much to the detriment of the team. Starting Thomas blocked development for younger guys who needed to play.. When he did play, it usually was sub standard & not up to the level we needed. Now he's been given the DL coaching position by the same head coach who has been gifting him everything for years. Hard not to see the entitlement. That's on Osh for creating that stigma.

Ford has never played receiver. He's a natural running back. His stature fits a running back,. Not a receiver. Crum isn't a starter but he has improved a lot since he got to Ottawa a few years back. We'd have won more games with Crum than Streveler. Certainly the passing game would have been better. He'll never be a starter but he will be a coach killer. I like your comment as I agree but I just can't press like when Noeller already has. I'd feel so dirty.

Wow, people would actually pick Crum? Based on Crum-backs a few years ago, I guess. Give Ford an offence suited to his abilities (2 reads & run or ride and decide) & don't try to turn him into a pocket passer. Let him do what he does well and reduce the number of dropbacks and reads he has to do. He would be at least as successful as Streveler, although that's a pretty low bar.

The reality is that Demski has a lot more days behind him than in front of him and he is getting dinged more often and needs longer and longer times to rebound. Tre Ford ought to be a natural replacement.

I'd probably take Ford. More healthy and has a better track record then Crum.

the remaining three look fit for their ages are still sharp & & can work. We all get old & eventually die. It's the way life is. We have entertainers, singers, rock musicians & actors dying by the score. My only real concern is this...

His inability to even get into the OLs pads before the ball was thrown on passing downs. Being one of the very worst DTs in the league against the run and the pass for a couple of years. He couldn't get off blocks, even against centres, didn't demand a double team, and couldn't block a rush lane or pass rush. Usage made him worse, and made it more obvious. But the drop off in his play was one of the steepest I've ever seen. 2021, Jake was overplayed and used suboptimally for a good chunk of the year. But that was one of the best defences of the era, and when Stove got healthy, he was unblockable in the pass rush and a true 2 gap nose, allowing Jake to go back to a more ideal 3tech. 2022 Jake was burning out in games earlier and earlier while slogging through more and more reps. He would have a handful of good plays a season, and largely relied on cleaning up after others blew up plays or the O screwed up big time. 2023 Jake was permanently blown up and unable to impose any kind of disruption to the pass or run game at all. He benefited from others' disruption in 22/23, which was the latest his instincts and football iq could carry his body. I mean, that is still 5 very good years at one of the rarer positions for a Canadian to perform at in that time. For a guy who started with mediocre at best athleticism, and who was run into the ground, that is pretty good. But it doesn't take much to earn the waste-of-space stigma. Especially at one of the most valuable positions on the football field. come back in one year and it will repeat lol

That's why a guy like Lawler was so valuable & we. let. him. walk. SMH. Crum & it ain't even close. Ford? pfft. Put him as a running back with the option to throw downfield. Get him holding on field goals so he can throw out of FG situations. Use his throwing ability that way. Not as a backup qb as he can't do it.

I'm not sure how you anyone who watched how both guys played last year and decide Ford is the better option. Crum isn't a starter but he very much showed he has the potential to be more than a sandlot QB. IMO he was the better option for OTT last season even. Guy just has heart that Brown seemed to be missing. did he retire?

Oh, lighten up. There's no hate there. A joke for sure, but no hate. Thomas has been handed his starting job at DT & now a coaching position by Osh. The feeling is he is entitled as he never quite earned it with his play. Especially the past 3 or 4 years. Hence the bad one liners. The fans aren't stupid. They're a lot smarter then the coaches & managers think they are. They can see what is going on. With that damned coaches cap, the Bombers can bring in Thomas with no coaching experience & not pay him what an experienced DL coach might make. CFL teams can only have up to 11 assisitants. Which means prior to the cap, Thomas could have been a defensive assistant under an experienced pro coach as we'd have had the flexibility to hire another coach. Now, he has to take it on all by himself for the Bombers to adhere to that cap with just 11 assistants. Seems we hire 10 to save more money, anyway.
