I need to see independent corroboration before I'll believe something that's published in a Murdoch paper. The Australians themselves have a healthy skepticism towards their media:

Given the sad history of prosecuting both cops and killers of black men, I do not think this will go the same way it would if the victim was a white person or the killers were not cops. Remember the Zimmerman incident?

There are many suggesting they can use self defence and stand your ground laws.  Logic and common sense tells is that’s ridiculous.   But you never know.
