I think yesterday's game must be put out to pasturer with the rest of the manure filled games we have seen since Willy went down. This was nothing but a trap game disguised as a bridge gap game until the Matt Nichols era begins, which should happen in the Banjo Bowl. If he doesn't start then there should be mass firings. I believe the Bombers will win next week but that will be putting the proverbial lipstick on a pig as this team was not going to make the playoffs this year but is posied to be competitive over the next few years if they stick to their plan, which appears to be backfiring at the moment but thing are never as bad as they look or as good as they looks.

Therefore, I am not a fan of cleaning house for a few reasons:

i. Willy appears to be legitimate;

ii. The defence is getting better it is not great yet as in it won't win games for the team but with a little more discipline it can be  good;

iii. The Canadian talent should only get better next year; and

iv. Hopefully there will be some good free agent additons.

 

I believe Walters has this and next season before he is out but MOS is on thin ice. He is consistiently saying he has to find a better way to coach/prepare them. Some say he is takling the heat for lack of talent on the club.  I disagree. I think he is in over his head and has not figured out how to get the most out of a young team with  less than aberage talent. If he doesn't figure that out he will never be a good head coach. if he does this team will flourish under him. He may have to take off the kids gloves in public once in a while to get this process started.

 

The bottom line is they had no chance of winning yesterday for several reasons but there is no excuse for thwm to lose next week.

 

At least we get to see a new QB next week.

Yeah, it seems MB will be here 'til year's end as MOS just said there will be player changes - Matt Nichols will start, and some minor "philosophy" adjustments. Marcel alone, calls the plays.

And, keep coaching the players to make running the ball easier and better.

That's the plan.

Why not? The Riders only got back in the game on a punt return TD and it was still a highly winnable game until things went off the rails on the roughing the kicker penalty. 

 

That game was the Riders Grey Cup. Labour Day game which just happens to come after the coach and GM are fired, a traditional bounce back game for a team, and it still took a complete Bomber meltdown for them to win. Banjo Bowl is very winnable, provided the offence actually tries to score some points. I am curious to see if Bellefool opens up the playbook a bit with a qb like Nichols who is more experienced and has proven he can play a little bit in the CFL vs. Brohm and Marve.

O'Shea will bravely stand tall and proclaim "Well Marcel's offense did absolutely nothing again! It's his fault, not mine!" But O'Shea won't fire Bellefeille so he can continue to use him as the scapegoat until the end of the season.

Its almost like we didnt just attempt to resolve our Oline issues, QB Issue and ST problems...

This is really MB's sink or swim moment. He got a new QB and running back. If the attack plan isn't significantly more creative he should be done. 

 

At the end of the season I mean. Canning him now does sweet FA.

I expect that the Riders will use the same game plan as last- keep chipping away at the Bomber defence for 3 quarters and then turn Messam loose in the 4th quarter. I have zero confidence in the current Bomber running game,so we probably going to live or die with the pass, and we are going to see how fast a learner Nichols is.

My heart says the Bombers beat the Riders because I love this team but deep down i just think that the Bombers have too many deficiencies on offense (including play calling) & special teams to realistically win the Banjo Bowl. Once again, the defense gets hung out to dry. 

This game is a tipping point, we have made some changes.....but struggling to make the playoffs - we simply cannot lose at home (again) and get swept by a 0-9 team going into the back-to-back.   If that does happen.....things will get ugly....
