So every hockey reporter on the planet lost their mind this morning for no reason......sounds like Wednesday....

 

According the victim's lawyer, they confirmed that it was the original rape kit evidence bag with the crime nurses.  So it still raises questions.  Is someone lying?  If the bag was replaced, why and where is the official record this was done (documentation is required for every movement of the evidence).  Who left it on the victim's mother's door step and why?

Or how much of what that lawyer said was true.

Kane, if charged, will NEVER be convicted now.

It's pretty tough. You hope he is. We don't know the evidence. The little we do know the victim responded as you'd expect a victim to respond. Then the reports of no DNA... Kane's lawyer was a bit sleazy in saying he heard there was DNA from "other males".

This evidence bag. Then the authorities saying evidence is accounted for. Something happened.

The idea that she's looking for money just doesn't make sense. Victims are so mis treated. And if they were "talking" settlement and she made it up she'd take it. Hiring a lawyer who doesn't do settlements to come out swinging? I don't know.

Kane might truly believe he's innocent. And she might truly believe she was assaulted.

It's a really tough situation because while everyone wants to look out for a potentially innocent girl, what about if it's Kane that's innocent and someone's taking advantage of him?? Why is there no outrage over this?

I think because its not a routine scenario for women to make false accusations against people that advance to a Grand Jury stage.

 

And because you err on the side of not wanting to victimize the victim over and over again and so you provide the benefit of the doubt.  If the police are called and conduct an investigation, it wouldnt be overly difficult to determine if the "victim" made it all up for some nefarious purpose (in this case, financial).

 

If the police conduct an investigation, submit it to the DA who assembles the Grand Jury, you've advanced beyond the point of this being a clear case of false accusation.  It implies evidence supporting the accuser's position.  Saying that, we dont know the veracity or scope of that evidence.

 

There is also the sense that a woman is unlikely to put yourself through this.  This isnt like some incriminating photos arise and everything is kept hush hush while lawyers work out a pay off.  She didnt call a lawyer.  She called the police.  She went to the hospital for a rape kit.  She eventually hired a lawyer.  She's putting herself through this ostensibly to seek justice.

 

If she made it up, she'd have to be nuts.  Which isnt impossible.  But generally unlikely.

That's what law enforcement and the court system are for.

 

There's a girl who went straight to the hospital after the alleged attack vs a guy with a history a being a drunken asshat. It's not surprising the public isn't fully on board with believing in his innocence.

USA Today criticizing the NHL big time on the Kane situation.  They reference other sports that have suspended players in similar situations and even go so far as to suggest the NHL should be doing its own investigation like the NFL did with Ray Rice.

It must tell Kane it’s time to leave training camp and go on paid leave, the NHL equivalent of the NFL’s commissioner’s exempt list, which is the place where Adrian Peterson and Greg Hardy spent almost all of last season as their troubling domestic violence legal issues played out.

 

It also must immediately begin its own investigation into the accusations against Kane, which it so far has been reluctant to do even though the NFL has made such action standard operating procedure in the aftermath of last year’s Ray Rice controversy.

 

 

 

The NHL is one of the leading voices not just in American sports, but throughout the sports world. Wednesday’s disturbing news screams out for someone – anyone – to treat this case in the most serious manner possible. This is not the time for Kane to be playing hockey. This is the time for the NHL to insert itself into an important societal issue and demand answers. This is the time for the NHL to lead.

 

 

While it is true that Kane has not been arrested or convicted, there is recent precedent for preemptive action in the sports world.

 

Other sports entities have acted before the courts have ruled as well. This spring, the WNBA suspendedBrittney Griner and Glory Johnson seven games each for their role in a domestic fight. USA Swimming suspended Michael Phelps for three months simply for a photo of him smoking a marijuana pipe in 2009, then six months for drunk driving last year.

 

If Kane were an NFL player, logic tells us he would not have been allowed to show up at training camp in the midst of rape allegations.  After what the NFL has been through, and the mechanisms it has put into place in the past year, Kane would have been put on paid leave, i.e., that exempt list, until things were sorted out.

 

If he were a NASCAR driver he would have been gone as well, at least for the time being. That’s what the Busch punishment told us.

Just more and more bizarre by the day..

 

The "victims" lawyer just moments ago has left the case, he said it's basically because he didn't believe the victims mothers story about how she got the evidence bag. This is just crazy.... really starting to look like this girl, maybe being driven by her mother are looking to cash in big time here. Just my 2 cents but.... crazy development for the "victims" lawyer to just quit really because he doesn't believe the mothers story about how she got the evidence bag. 

I know it's not right but it so easy to dislike a guy like Kane. He really doesn't help people's perception of him every time he talks. 

This is nuts. Why the mother lie. Even if she lied she should never have got the bag. This is unbelievable.

This whole thing is a disaster.  He withdraws because of the mother, but still believes the victim.  Was he representing the mother or the victim?

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The lawyer of a woman accusing Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane of sexual assault abruptly quit the case Thursday night, saying he's no longer comfortable representing the woman because of how her mother reported finding an evidence bag that once held the woman's rape kit.

 

Thomas Eoannou (ee-WAHN'-oo) told reporters on Thursday night that he doesn't believe the story he was told about how the bag was found. Eoannou says he confirmed with prosecutors investigating the case that the bag is authentic.

 

The reversal comes after police said Wednesday that the rape kit and the bag itself were handled properly. Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita planned a news conference Friday to talk about the case.

 

Eoannou previously said that the folded up paper bag was found by the woman's mother in between her storm door and her front door.

 

Eoannou says he's still confident in the woman's allegations against Kane.

 

 

That's unfortunate because his quitting is going to brow doubt on the victim.

Unfortunate if this is the Mother orchestrating something thinking it would help her daughter ... and it back-fired.

Unfortunate if this is the Mother orchestrating something thinking it would help her daughter ... and it back-fired.

This is what I'm thinking. Mother thinks she's helping. Screws her daughter. DA isn't going to proceed. I can't see it now. Too much doubt on both sides. But someone did something illegal to get that evidence bag in the mothers hands.

Respected Lawyer in the Buffalo area, probably figured Kanes lawyer would rip him to shreads tomorrow so got out while he could. Probably means that this is done pretty soon and kane will be playing the first game of the year.

 

Can't let Kanes past history come in to things here, little different scenarios, beating up a cab driver and raping a girl are 2 totally different things.

 

Kane is a ****** for sure but... perhaps he's actually the victim in this one. 

Keep in mind the lawyer maintains he believes the accuser.

Innocent until proven guilty and i don't think they will prove that kane was guilty. 

I think were all forgetting but wasn't their a woman who was with the victim at the same place where the rape was supposed to of happened.. What does she have to say about what she saw and or may of heard.  We may get some answers tomorrow. 

I agree this case is probably dead. But who tampered with the evidence bag?
