Game 81 - Jets @ Avs

Recommended Posts

It's been pointed out that the roster of the Kings includes a lot of players that competed for their countries in the Olympics, besides competing deep into the Stanley Cup playoffs twice in the last 3 years. So much so, that if you added all the games they have played in the last 3-4 years, it would add up to 66 more games than, say, the Flames.

That's almost a whole season.

Can you say exhausted?

Hawks are gonna be in Cap hell. They already are.

Green is an UFA and his 6m a year will be gone....otherwise, they have 6 other UFAs and 2 RFAs.

They only have about 49 signed for next year.

Ovechkin, Backstrom, Laich, Orpik and Niskanen account for about 32 of it!!!!!!!

Maybe we can pry Backstrom out of there????????

I can dream, can't i?

Actually it is pretty impressive that the Kings were able to play as well as they did this season with so much dead cap money tied up in Voynov and Richards.

The Kings were granted cap relief with regards to Voynov.

Ok? And how much did that help them on the ice? Lol cap relief doesn't do you much good mid season when there is nobody to sign.

But it does if you want to make a trade.

The Pens have regressed. I know they've had injuries. But they keep trying this one thing that worked once - grab a bit of help at the deadline and win. If they miss the playoffs and win the lottery tjay pick belongs to Toronto right? Trading a first round pick this year was not wise. Not having a lottery clause on it was flat out stupid.

Exactly. They were able to trade for Sekera b/c of the extra cap space they had.

As for Richards, he's just a bad player with a bad contract. They don't get a pat on the back for playing through their own self-inflicted wounds.

Pens changes should involve rectifying their biggest mistake - changing GM.

Is it fair to judge a GM on one season's work?

He traded their top 1st & 2nd rounders for short term help, and now they might miss the playoffs. They're also playing shorthanded for the past two weeks b/c he mismanaged the cap. IMO the only thing that should save him is a good run in the playoffs.

If Babcock doesn't re-sign in Detroit, Pittsburgh will make him a massive offer and give him full control of player decisions.
