The TV Thread

Second season of Orange is the New Black launched today.

Anyone else into this?

I have to admit to being a bit of a TV/movie-phile.  I generally buy Blu-Rays when there's a movie I want to see rather than just watching it on PPV or In-demand (I like to collect).

Premium TV has really been leading a creative resurgence in recent years, probably dating back to The Sopranos.  Its nice that Netflix has become a legitimate competitor for HBO (which puts out some really great shows like Sopranos, Deadwood, Boardwalk Empire, True Blood etc).

House of Cards was tremendous.

While cable channels like AMC are getting in on the act, I annoys me a bit.  The Walking Dead would be so much better on Netflix or HBO where they could truly appeal to adults (HBO passed on The Walking Dead when Thomas Jane was attached).

As for Orange, it took me a few episodes to get into last season but Im looking forward to banging out a few episodes tonight.

As an aside, for you Trekies, it was recently the 20th anniversary of the finale of TNG, one of the best Series' Finales in TV history.

I'm torn on how I feel about this.  The original show was great, and the whole idea of the series playing out as a 5 act play was very different for the time when it came out.

I will probably watch it, but I have a hard time believing that new actors can live up to the characters in the original.

James Austin Johnson is very funny. Does the best Trump impressions. I'll dig some up.

well at least if and when Trump causes trouble again they won't have to depend on Alec Baldwin

And, that's a win no matter what happens. Good riddance.

I never understood why people disliked Baldwin's Trump....I thought he was great.

I was/am a big fan of the original series and have the whole series on DVD. It gives me hope that Straczinski is involved but my enthusiasm is restrained.

This looks good. Boba has always been a fan fav but he's hasn't really been a "good" character.  I look forward to seeing how he develops.

He survives the Sarlacc pit. That's canon.

Lucas should have added gunfire after Boba fell into the pit.

I can't recommend Reservation Dogs enough. Absolutely stellar. I laugh out loud, even alone. I had to pause it a few times during the third episode because I was laughing so hard. It's on Disney+ here in Canada. Eight episodes in Season 1 (picked up for season 2, already) and they're releasing one episode a week. Episode 5 released yesterday.

So for some odd reason Adult Swim is actually picking up Super Dave Osbourne reruns, considering that this aired on YTV back in the day, I might revisit it for nostalgia sake

I don't know why but I can't seem to remember what aired on Sunday Nights on the network 25 years ago....like in the winter and spring, I do remember that they started airing the ENTIRE peanuts specials library (minus This is America Charlie Brown (or What Have We Learned for that matter) and It's the Girl in the Red Truck Charlie Brown)

All these resurrections of old TV shows confirms the dearth of creativity in the TV industry.

For some reason I feel like all the original new ideas keep ending up on streaming services
