Toronto lost some good players, the Stamps lost what virtually was their starting QB of record the last two seasons, Sask lost two NI Dlinemen, BC lost a future backup? We didn't really loose as much as we could have. What do you think?

Calgary has so much depth that they'll absorb the hit & keep on going. They lost Glenn & still have Tate & BLM. John Hufnagel said he's going to be excited to start developing a young third string qb for the future whoever that is once training camp arrives now that a spot is open on the roster.

They lost OL J'Michael Deane & Huff said after the draft at a presser that he'd never start in Calgary on a full time basis. Huff also said that he knew he'd lose a safety yet he didn't know which one as he has Adam Berger, Keenan McDougall & Jeff Hecht waiting in the wings. He said losing a safety allowed him to protect other Canadian players at positions not so deep.

Huff sounded pretty relaxed & calm. He even joked around with the media. While  he was doing the presser he told the Calgary media that the scrum interrupted a coaching interview he was having & when he is done with them he was going back to finish it. When asked how the coaching interview process was going he said, "Fine, thanks". And to the reporter who asked the question, "How come you never showed up?" Smiles & laughter all around.

Looked like just another day at the office for the Stamps President of Football Operations & HC. Wow, the guy seeemed totally relaxed even after losing 3 starters including a qb. Not a care in the world.  Having depth at nearly every  position will do that for him.

Losing Glenn may hurt a little in July, Aug, Sept but once the mittens come out in Oct they will be sending the Redblacks a thank you card.

Why the surprise, Jacquie? I've been saying this more than once & taking heat for it. Outside of Winnipeg, no one thinks our Canadian depth is any good. Some of you guys can argue the drafting record of Mack but across the league people looking at the roster consider our Canadian strength a joke. And because of our track record as an organization, anything we do, any move we make is scoffed & laughed at by other CFL teams, fans & media. It's going to take a long time to get any kind of credibility back & earn respect from the rest of the CFL.

I was referring to Penton's picks. Now if you agree Calgary was the big winner in the draft that's your choice. As for the rest, I don't give a damn what the media think since IMO most of them are idiots who form their opinions of the Bombers based on the writings of Penton, Friesen, Lawless and Wiecek.

Penton was one of the Sun Writers last year who didn't know the NI rule, specifically that an Aussie (Bartel) is a NI, so I take what he says with a grain of salt. That said, he is correct right now that Ottawa is better at QB than us, debatable at NI.

However, their QB moves up to this point have given us a better chance of signing Collaros.

 

They have Glenn and several decent veteran OL. Whether or not that's better than what we have depends on how well Collaros performs and how well our young OL continue to develop.

 

I don't think they're better at any other positions.

Calgary without question had more taken from them....... at least on paper (starting QB, OL when healthy and safety), though I doubt Huf is losing much sleep over any of them.

Actually, I'm a bit surprised that Fraser was still the starter this past season.

Penton is a moron.... he states the oft injured Tate will now start.....  so I don't see how losing a quality veteran back up who is great as an insurance policy is anything positive with his original statement.  

 

Bombers losing 2 nobodies and a guy they can get back as a free agent is a loser???  If anything we are the winners for losing the least..

I get the smiles and relaxation thing but that being said, Huffer is no Mike Kelly either. Of course he's not going to come out and do a presser cursing and swearing and acting like a jack-arse.

He's never been adversarial with the media in the 6 seasons he's been in Calgary but it shows  when he's upset. Monday, he lost a qb, an OL & a safety all starters & he is joking & laughing because he knows with his talent & depth, the Stamps won't skip a beat. The most negative thing he says is he's not happy about it. Huff's favourite movie as a football coach is, "It's A Wonderful Life".

Like Buck in Winnipeg preventing any qb development & movement, the 3 headed qb monster at times was counter productive. Luckily all 3 got along last year but it was pretty clear it couldn't continue. I believe either Glenn or Tate would  have been traded had this been a normal off season.
