25/26 CFL (Non Bombers) Off Season Thread

Is this ever a guy we should take a run at? I really like Pokey as a receiver but not sure he's a 1A Superstar guy... Would you ever take a run at Hatcher as your #1 and then have Pokey and Demski as 2/3?

Can confirm - ran it through Google Translate and this is what came back:

  • Brady is the most complete running back in the CFL full stop. Rushing, receiving, blocking, no one does it all as well as he does.   Now that doesn't automatically make the contract he got w

with a non-football injury designation. I feel like they may bring him back once he's healthy...?

That guy is a talent that demands a call and consideration from every team in the league. He'd instantly elevate any DL considerably.

It will be interesting to see who gets drafted in the NFL and who gets FA deals.

This is always the most important thing... It's such a short window between the NFL draft and ours, making an already difficult task practically Herculean for the CFL GMs... As always, I just hope we take the best "CFL Now" OL available when our pick comes...

I have no issue taking anyone not drafted. UDFA's rarely get more than a cup of coffee in the NFL. The odd one sticks on a PR for a year, but most of the time they are brought in as training camp fodder.

NFL draft goes tonight. When is the cfl draft and is tsn showing it again ??

The nice thing right now is there is a solid pool of Canadian players so the draft doesn't kill you if you take a risk.

The other piece is that you have to draft guys who really want to play. Especially if they are getting nice NIL deals and then some NFL time.

Like a Mesidor even if he gets bounced out of the NFL in 3 years probably isn't going to come up here to play for $80,000 CDN unless he's a complete football nut and doesn't have anything better to do.

I was watching a show. Dude was a former nfl player talking to rookies about money. Said 10 million isn’t really 10’million. In the end Uncle Sam gets a lot of it, in the nfl you also pay taxes in the places you play away games in. Turns out 10 become 2 or 3 pretty quickly. It’s all about money. 5 months 80k? Sign me up.

Vaccaro has made significantly more in college than he will likely on his first and second cfl contract.

Hoggies don't tend to receive the big college money. Not much merchandising deals for overweight white guys.

You don't need to make big money to be making more than your rookie contract. He was down there for 3 years? I think...if that's correct, he's made over 1/2 a mill. Maybe closer to 3/4.

According to the Boilermaker NIL reports he made 90k total.

He was only down there for a year. I'd be surprised if he got more than 10 or 20 grand USD.

He made 90k, which every player on the Boilermakers got as a base (they spread the Alumni money out to all players in all sports) and earned no other NIL deals. Not a bad haul for one season, but certainly not enough to retire on. lol

The Boilermakers are not exactly a hot NIL market.

yeah that's right, my timeline is way off lol. I swear 2024 was both 3 years ago and yesterday....

Either way, it's pointless for me to argue on it, so people can think what they want. The point WBB was making stands. Drafting guys that really want to play will be very important as the NIL deals continue.

NIL deals or not.....guys still need income and if they want income from playing...well the NFL and then the CFL are the options...And the guys who made/make huge NIL money are guys who really in all reality were likely never gonna make their way here anyway

The odd one may, but it's not gonna affect player recruitment for most part. Can only be in school for so long...then you have to enter the real world

Of course, you have to draft guys who want to play. That is part of the scouting process. Guys who come to the combine or take part in pro days are doing so because they intend to play for the most part. Our draft eligible guys that do these things rarely decide that CFL money is not good enough, however, conversations are had with prospective players prior to the draft. NIL money is not a significant indicator of a players motivation except maybe at QB or receiver where the NIL earnings are substantially more than other positions.
