That hurts cause you have to think the Jets were same amount over 7yrs.

Why would they pay a 60 point player the same as a 90 point player? Do people pay attention? He wanted out. Nothing was keeping him unless you guaranteed him top line minutes and paid him as much as our actual stars. There’s so much bs today like ppl saying he was the best player In the playoffs. Yeah 3 even strength points in 8 games is just rock star. Jesus. Ppl need to stop pretending Ehlers makes a difference for us or for Carolina. He doesn’t. We have 10 seasons of him underperforming when it matters most. Wish him well but stop pretending he’s worth the same price as Scheifele or Helle. Ppl go back to the tying goal against St. Louis and are like without Ehlers, it doesn’t happen. Really ? Cuz what happened 30 seconds prior? Or 15 seconds prior. He flubbed the puck out the zone then flubbed a one timer. 3 even strength points. Also took a dumb penalty. But ya 3 even strength points. If you paid attention it doesn’t hurt at all cuz all the rumors said he wasn’t coming back. He was never coming back. Jets knew it a week ago even. He wanted anonymity and top line minutes.

I definitely would have given Ehlers that deal and maybe more, but he clearly wanted out. He believes he's a top line player and he apparently doesn't like the fishbowl. Whatever... As mentioned, he seemed like a nice kid, but he was never healthy for a full year. I'm not heartbroken over this.

He would have been a hurricane last year or the year prior if necas agreed to an extension with us. They were shopping Ehlers then and had a deal with Carolina for Necas who wouldn’t agree to an extension. It’s why Carolina been rumored as the landing spot and in the end.. was.

It’ll be interesting to see how healthy Ehlers remains on his new team. I can’t remember a season where he didn’t spend at least a week or two or much more injured. Hard to believe he’s never scored 30 in a season either. We may look back on this day and say it wasn’t as terrible as we thought compared to how we may have felt had they signed him until he was 36 or 37.

So in the end, from a forward looking lens, we got nada in return for him. Was it the right move by Chevy attempting to make him a Jet for life but ultimately failing and getting nothing in return for his troubles? Again from a forward looking lens did what he do here for the past 6 years trump (sorry) us getting nothing in return in him leaving?

In the end we should have traded for necas.

Or McDavid. In the end it doesn't matter. Life in the NHL.

Thing is they had the Ehlers vs necas trade agreed upon. I mean sure this is like ppl going on about past grey cups tho. Irrelevant

I think it’s going to be a loooooooong time if ever before a Canadian team wins a Stanley Cup again. Hope I’m wrong but the business plan and tax advantages are making it seem like the mid 90’s again for teams north of the border.

Not very long ago tho Florida wasn’t drawing anyone. Ehlers is literally the first UFA to voluntarily sign with Carolina. Rantanen wanted out. Guentzel also. Ehlers wanted in but again Carolina like the Jets. Good regular season. Playoffs a struggle still.

Edmonton been there twice in a row. I think Winnipeg Edmonton Vancouver and Calgary have a better shot than the eastern teams tho now. Carolina in east. Florida in east. Tampa in east. Rangers. I mean the list goes on. Trick is for the cdn team to win the finals. Certainly have had a few chances over the years really since the 90s to win but lose in finals every time. West has Vegas. Yup. Vegas. It’s a premier destination. And really that’s about it now. Dallas will be good. Chicago has Bédard. SJ and Anaheim will eventually be good also. East tho.

I have a theory the jets need to break the drought and win the cup for Canada.
