so many people find the all-star game dumb. You know what I find dumb? the fact that sitting out of the all-star game when you are selected is a suspendable offense

The All Star game isnt really about a fun game for fans.  Its the NHL's corporate meet & greet.  The PA talks a lot about growing the game.  Doing these kinds of events is part of that.  

Make the penalty one playoff game.

Why? Ovechkin has played in 9 all star games & plays hard every game. If he wants to rest at his age by paying the financial penalty then let him. He has nothing more to prove to anyone.  Why should he be penalized further?
