His effort level was really exposed when they had him with Schief and Wheeler on Friday. He's great on the pp, but he needs to improve in every other aspect. He's 19 and scores a **** tonne of go

One hell of a game to be at last night. Just an utterly dominant performance by the home side, in every facet. PPG, SHG, hard hits, a brawl, penalty box shenanigans... Much fun was had by the home cro

The Jets don't have a legit superstar right now...?

Isn't Mark Scheifele in the top 5 in scoring in the league since 2015? Wheeler is having himself an excellent season and is playing at a superstar level.

Laine is the Jets' next superstar, IMO. He just needs to continue improving his overall game.

Nope Scheifele is a star and Wheeler too but not in the same bracket as a player let's say is called a franchise player. Laine imo will be that and might be right now because of the lack of players that can shoot like he does.☺

I guess we can build around Laine like Washington has built around Ovechkin, because that has worked out really well for them

Utter nonsense.

How is Scheifele, the team's top centre and a top 5 offensive player in the entire league, not a franchise player or a superstar? He leads the Jets in shooting percentage, is tied for second in points, and has a 1.02 PPG average this season. And a team can have more than one franchise player, anyway.

When roughly 99% of the NHL can't shoot like Laine does, the bolded statement is a pointless one to make. Furthermore, there's more to what makes a player than just his shot.

Well the best that I can explain it to you is that their are stars and then their are special players above those that  seperate good teams from great. Crosby,Mcdavid perhaps...Austen maybe....in the past Mario , Gretzky....not just stars but special players that when they touch the puck you just sense something special might happen....that is what Laine can bring. He is the only player on our team that has that potential. We will see.

Wheeler is the entire package. Scorer. Yes? Tough? Yes. Fast? Yes.

That's ridiculous.

You're saying that there is one-two superstars per generation.

Laine has superstar potential.

Sheif and Wheeler are superstars.

Pretty much...there are only a few true superstars...or generational players...hence the name. And no Wheelers and Scheif are not. Sorry I am a Jet fan  they are stars no doubt but not generational players.

So now you need to be a generational player to be a superstar?

Define it however you want to. No one else defines superstar as generational player.

But I would agree, we don't have a generational player like McDavid and Crosby. There's only one per generation, hence, generational.

Yes thats what i said. ?

Today's lines

Connor - Scheifele - Wheeler

Perreault - Little - Roslovic

Ehlers - Copp - Laine

Petan - Hendricks - Armia

Morrissey - Myers

Enstrom - Byfuglien

Chariot - Kulikov

Hellebuyck Comrie

Extras: Poolman & Dano

Some fun....

Superstar is a derived term of star.

As nouns the difference between superstar and star

is that superstar is someone who has accumulated a vast amount of fame; a high-level celebrity while star is any small luminous dot appearing in the cloudless portion of the night sky, especially with a fixed location relative to other such dots.

As a verb star is

to appear as a featured performer or headliner, especially in an entertainment program.

I'm having troubles locating "generational player" in the above description?

Whether he fits bb1's contrived definition of superstar or not, it is just plain silly to suggest Laine should be on the top line regardless of how well or poorly he is playing.  That's not how you develop a young star, that's how you ruin one.

You know its a good season when there's a multi-page debate over who is our actual superstar, ha...

I LOVE THESE LINES!!!

Jets are still thin at centre. Need to find someone who can spark Ehlers and Laine, those two shouldn't be third liners with all their talent.

Copp is no slouch,  I'd put the "blame" on Ehlers and Laine slumping more so then them being held back because of the centre.

There's a reason they've been bumped down and it has nothing to do with Copp.

Ehlers' last 10GP: 2G, 5P, -3; Laine's last 10: 5G, 5P, -5 (his last 3: 1G, 1P, -7)

Pretty lousy numbers all around for both of them. Some time on the third line to get themselves back on track won't hurt.

Need Lowry back.

Also, Scheif and Wheeler are both superstars.  As is Buff.  We're doing alright.

Ouch, yeah, those are bad numbers.  Need to get them rolling.  I think it might be a good idea to separate them....  At least for a while.

I see nothing wrong with giving Ehlers and Laine 3rd or 4th line time (12 mins a game) and then let them be powerplay specialists

Perrault-Little-Roslo is an impressive checking/scoring line until Lowry is back

As for Centre depth...  I think other teams would love to have our depth

Scheif, Little, Lowry, Copp, Wheeler, Hendricks, Perrault, Petan, Roslovic

Oh the thread title is a pot joke.  Ha ha ha.  I get it now.

I believe your 3rd line should be more offensive then your 4th ,

Having said that Copp should not be on the 3rd line. I'm not even sure he should be 3rd line center if Lowry injured.

Never said he should be on the no1 line said he needs a center that has the skill to play with him....which ain't Copp or Little. Just a fact but don't let that get in the way of your opinions?

So that means top line or Scheifele on the second line with Laine, effectively making it the top line regardless of what you call it.  Because there are no other centre options here.
