US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

He's not running. That's ridiculous. His ego would never allow it. He will fight this for the rest of his life.

Trump is both a bully and a coward, and going to jail would be anathema to him. I foresee a possibility that he would bolt the country claiming to be a political victim. his money would but him any one of several safe havens and with internet, he can both carry on his business and wails of self-pity anywhere in the world.

Even if the Manhattan DA indicts Trump it will be a slap on the wrists, Trump should be more worried if the Georgia grand jury and DA indict him and if Garland ever gets of his ass. Trump  move then will be a call to arms to protect him.

"Jaw-dropping": Experts stunned after report reveals new tape of Trump pressuring Georgia official

A Fulton County grand jury heard a previously unreported recording of former President Donald Trump pressuring a top Georgia Republican to help overturn his election loss in the state, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The special grand jury investigated Trump's efforts to overturn his election in the state after District Attorney Fani Willis launched a probe into the former president's infamous phone call pressuring Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to "find" enough votes to reverse his loss. But five grand jurors who spoke with AJC revealed that investigators also have an audio recording of Trump pressuring then-Georgia House Speaker David Ralston to push for a special session to reverse President Joe Biden's win.

Ralston proved to be an "amazing politician" on the call, a juror told AJC.

The speaker "basically cut the president off. He said, 'I will do everything in my power that I think is appropriate.' … He just basically took the wind out of the sails," the juror said. "'Well, thank you,' you know, is all the president could say."
Former federal prosecutor Renato Mariotti called the report "jaw-dropping."  The call "sounds incendiary," tweeted former U.S. Attorney Harry Litman. "How big does Willis want to go in her charges?"

The special grand jury wrapped up its work and its foreperson publicly revealed that the panel recommended indictments for more than a dozen people in the case, though it's unclear if Trump was one of them. The ultimate decision on whether to bring charges will fall on Willis.

Uvalde Cops Delayed School Shooting Response Over Fears Of AR-15: Report

A new report indicates that officers who delayed their response to last year’s school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, did so in part because they were scared of the gunman’s rifle.

“You knew that it was definitely an AR,” Uvalde Police Department Sgt. Donald Page said in an interview with investigators after the shooting at Robb Elementary School. “There was no way of going in.”

The new police interviews and body camera evidence come from a report by The Texas Tribune, which published its investigation into the poor police response on Monday.

Ex-Trump ethics lawyer advised Hutchinson to mislead committee. Now he “could be prosecuted”: report

A Trump-allied attorney who previously represented a key January 6 witness urged her to mislead the January 6 committee about details she recalled, according to CNN.

The committee did not identify the witness or the person they claimed tried to influence the testimony, but CNN reported that Stefan Passantino, the top ethics attorney in the Trump White House who represented former aide Cassidy Hutchinson, was the lawyer.

Passantino advised Hutchinson, an aide to former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, to tell the committee that she did not recall details that she did, sources told CNN.

The committee suggested that people connected to the former president had attempted to influence at least one witness' testimony, promising her jobs that never materialized and coaching her to make statements in an attempt to deceive the committee.
Passantino and his law firm Elections LLC were funded by Trump's Save America political action committee. The PAC also paid for the lawyer's representation of Hutchinson, which Passantino did not mention to his client, sources told CNN.

Over the summer, Hutchinson emerged as a key witness for the committee, providing bombshell testimony into Trump's knowledge of the potential for violence on Jan. 6, and his outbursts of anger. Before her public testimony, she dropped Passantino and got a new lawyer.

'Chilling': Law enforcement 'seriously' investigating threats ahead of possible Donald Trump indictment

Ahead of a possible indictment of Donald Trump, law enforcement agencies are investigating "chilling" threats, including against Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, according to top Washington Post investigative reporter Carol Leonnig.

Leonnig was careful to say she is not aware of any of the threats being deemed credible, but also noted that "all sorts of law enforcement agencies" seem to be taking much more interest than some agencies did in the weeks before the January 6, 2021 insurrection.
"I have received copies and screenshots and internal documents and emails flagging concerns about specific protests, investigations into specific online threats that have been made that are not yet determined to be 'credible and likely to occur' but have been chilling nonetheless in terms of the threats that have been made about killing certain people," Leonning, a Pulitzer-Prize winning author, said Tuesday on MSNBC's "Deadline: White House."

"Claims of, you know, 'Alvin Bragg needs to needs to die,' and claims online that could just be, you know, bravado, but are being seriously investigated and checked into this time around, ones that were not checked into as clearly at all in the weeks before January 6, despite significant warnings to the FBI about what these threats meant."

Mirroring Leonnig's reporting, Rolling Stone, citing law enforcement reports, on Tuesday noted: "Violent extremists are advocating lethal attacks and proclaiming their willingness to die for the cause."

The rubes keep funneling money to the GOP, Qanon and Trump, so that would seem to be a looong way off.

Unlike Weird Al, mouth breathers don't question, don't care, don't understand whether they are being lied to when the lies being told hurt someone they hate.

It's as simple as that.

Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls For Alvin Bragg To Be Arrested Before He Can Indict Trump

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) falsely claimed that Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg is hiding evidence that would clear Trump and called for the DA’s arrest.

Greene tweeted:

"it’s time to arrest Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg for prosecutorial misconduct after hiding hundreds of pages of exculpatory evidence! Bragg is on the verge of indicting an innocent former President and top Presidential candidate against the opposing ruling party. Bragg is breaking the law and trying to incite civil unrest with his Soros funded political war."
The former party of law and order and the rule of law now wants to arrest prosecutors for doing their jobs. Greene’s call for Bragg to arrested echoes the behavior of anti-democratic regimes around the world.
