US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

A Whirlpool plant in Tulsa, Oklahoma has temporarily closed due to a coronavirus outbreak one week before Trump holds a rally in the city.

And Tulsa County now has its highest seven-day average of coronavirus cases since the outbreak began in March.

Trump should shake hands with each and every one of his attendee's at his rally in Tulsa, and then they should all do the same with each other, maybe even yell Trumps name at each and of course do it without any masks on.

President Trump said he’ll leave the White House peacefully if he loses this November’s presidential election, addressing concerns he would try to hold onto power after a defeat.

To even have to ask that question is, using Susan Collins favourite word, concerning.

It can be, if trump and his administration have any say about it.   They are clearly prepared to do what is necessary.

Trump makes campaign rally attendees promise not to sue him if they contract the coronavirus
The event website for Trump's next rally carries a waiver acknowledging “an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19"

President Donald Trump will force attendees of his upcoming rally to promise not to not sue him if they contract the new coronavirus at the event.

Trump announced his first campaign rally since pandemic lockdowns began this week, which will be held June 19 at the 20,000-seat BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla. The event's reservation page contains a waiver where attendees acknowledge they will be voluntarily taking on "an inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19":

Atlanta Police Fatally Shoot Black Man After Report He Was Asleep In His Car

Police shot and killed Rayshard Brooks, 27, after they say he resisted arrest.

Atlanta police, responding to a call about someone sleeping in a car, shot and killed a Black man at a Wendy’s restaurant Friday.

Police said that Rayshard Brooks, 27, resisted arrest following a failed sobriety test. But video posted to social media shows Brooks running away from police before he is shot off-screen.

Police were called to the Wendy’s restaurant Friday night after receiving a report that a man was sleeping in his car, which was parked in the drive-thru.

Two officers found Brooks in the vehicle and gave him a field sobriety test, which they said he failed. While attempting to arrest Brooks, police said he resisted.

👁‍🗨 The President got a NOvation when he unsuccessfully tried to link his birthday with the 245th birthday of the US army. He expected some sort of cheer when he paused after announcing this at the speech to the West Point Academy. What he got was silence.
Oops..

Trump also sort of staggered down the ramp following his diatribe. That plus his difficulty drinking water with one hand, leads me to wonder if he is medicated before each public performance.

Philly Protests: Christopher Columbus Statue Lovers Beat Unicorn Riot Reporter After Police Order Him To Leave

Bastiaan Slabbers/Reuters
Philadelphia Police threatened a reporter with the left-wing non-profit news organization Unicorn Riot as he covered far right armed vigilantes protecting a Christopher Columbus station in South Philadelphia Saturday. The organization says its reporter Chris Schiano was told by Philadelphia Police Captain Louis Campione to leave the scene because he was “inciting a riot.” Several of the men then assaulted the reporter and slashed his bicycle tires. The news organization then tweeted a video of the disturbing scene.

Secret Service: Actually, Yes, We Did Use Pepper Spray When Clearing Protesters From D.C. Park

Multiple federal agencies swore for weeks that they didn’t use any chemical irritants to clear peaceful protesters from a D.C. park on June 1 so President Trump could have a photo op. Now, the Secret Service says it actually did. “After further review, the U.S. Secret Service has determined that an agency employee used pepper spray... in response to an assaultive individual,” the agency said Saturday in a statement.
