US Politics

Lets see if we can keep this thread a little more civil.

I found this interview very interesting.  A lot of soft balls thrown at Trump, he explained his back pedalling on his more extreme issues as a lot of his claims as opening bids for negotiation purposes.  Which .. whatever .. I still think that those are insincere claims he used to get elected.

He does now come across way more presidential then he did prior to the election.  A lot of his noise, yelling, and rhetoric has been scaled back.

Do respect this one though:

Quote

Lesley Stahl: Are you gonna take the salary, the president’s salary?

Donald Trump: Well, I’ve never commented on this, but the answer is no. I think I have to by law take $1, so I’ll take $1 a year. But it’s a -- I don’t even know what it is.

Donald Trump: Do you know what the salary is?

Lesley Stahl: $400,000 you’re giving up.

Donald Trump: No, I’m not gonna take the salary. I’m not taking it.

Trump will take any opportunity to credit himself for anything good that has happened to the country, he sees himself as god.

Humorous Trump doings outlined here.

for instance:

Trump’s teleconference is on speakerphone, yet Trump holds a phone to his ear. You can’t parody this stuff.

and "Commander in Chief Trump is surprised to learn a colonel he's talking to in Afghanistan commands 10k people. "Wow! That's a lot of people. That's fantastic. That's beautiful. And you're enjoying what you're doing, is that right?""

"Trump, like a lunatic, asks troops in Bahrain to weigh in on his trade war since "we have been taken advantage of for many years by bad deals."

He's not all there.

It's sad but there could be something to the idea he's at the beginning stages of dementia.  Look at Reagan, who had many "senior moments" and yet was a pretty effective Commander and wasnt diagnosed for years (he was also, unbeknownst to him, examined by his team for a potential 25th removal).

On the other hand, Trump might just be a moron.  Remember when the comedians' take on W. was that he was dumb?  W. was a rocket scientist compared to Trump.

I'm not sure we'll know if he has dementia, his ramblings and obsessions have been around for more than 20 years (and probably longer). Just look at his unscripted speeches and interviews.

One event that particularly stands out is this one: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-boasts-of-his-philanthropy-but-his-giving-falls-short-of-his-words/2016/10/29/b3c03106-9ac7-11e6-a0ed-ab0774c1eaa5_story.html?utm_term=.62fecba384e9

Yes, but Trump doesn't have Nancy and the ole Ouija Board

Thats a good point in that Nancy was highly protective of Reagan and sheltered him as much as she could.  I think Reagan knew the fortune teller stuff was nonsense but he placated Nancy who was impacted greatly by his shooting.  Its possible the shooting is what hurt Reagan's mental facilities (many say he wasnt the same after).  There is video showing his advisers leading him through some events.  At other times, he was as witty and strong as ever.  But thats what can happen with dementia.

Trump really could just be a guy who isnt that smart.  It looks more glaring in his position where he interacts with very intelligent people and has to talk about very intelligent issues.  Probably most of us would sound uneducated when talking about most of these issues and we're arguably average intelligent people ...Trump seems like an average dumb guy.

A big difference was that everyone around Reagan sheltered him and protected the institutions.

No one shelters Trump, they enable him and do nothing to protect the institutions. It's a complete reversal.

We may be ignorant of some big things but he has people around him that can explain things to him. He can't even handle simple things. Normally, when idiots are elected, those around him are the ones in control. Here, we've got an idiot who's in complete control and surrounded by other idiots and enablers.

That is his biggest failing, he is so insecure he has to be the smartest guy in the room, which given that he's an idiot means he's surrounded by yes men and morons.

what's going on with trump?

The large and violent French protests don’t take into account how badly the United States has been treated on Trade by the European Union or on fair and reasonable payments for our GREAT military protection. Both of these topics must be remedied soon.

We also find out that he refers to himself as President T, also Alan Dershowitz says the Mueller report will be devastating politically for Trump but not criminally.because collusion is not criminal.

Russia attacked Ukranian ships and shut a key strait to get to the Sea of Azov.

On cue, Trump attacks NATO and the EU.

All part of Putin's plan.

Claude is being a needless **** in his remark but there is some seriousness in there.  Trump looks remarkably unhealthy, especially compared to his TV appearances.  Fair game from the media to ask about his fitness when he's wearing a visible patch on one arm and appears to be wearing a very large bandage or patch under his shirt (maybe a shoulder injury and he bandages it to play golf?)

I always said he looked good for his age.  He looks like he's aged a decade in this photo.  Stressed much?

Good people on both sides.  Both sides.

Migrants trying to lawfully enter and request asylum get their children tear gassed.

Russia attacks Ukraine and....crickets

How stupid can a person be to enter a plea deal and then lie to the FBI and Special Prosecutor.  At his age, does he really want to go to jail for the rest of his life to protect Trump?  Or is it Russia he fears....?

You've got Trump railing against migrants as "illegal", ordering children be tear gassed and yet attacks Mueller for "ruining lives" of guilty people.  No wonder his approval numbers are a disaster.  But ECONOMY...yeah right.

The question is:  What is worse than spending the rest of your life in jail?  I would not be surprised if his family has been threatened by Mother Russia.

You  mean the President who will shutdown the border if he doesn't get money for a border wall that he said the Mexican's were going to pay for, or said the wall was already being built, this idiot will go down as the most hated President of all time by the end of his term if he makes it there, so he will actually get something he said right he will be the best at being the worst.

I agree.  100 years from now, Trump will be taught in schools in a similar, yet opposite way we learn and talk about Lincoln.
