  1. It's a Win Win situation for me personally, from how I see it.

If the Ticats lose, just means the East is 0-3 this week and the possibilities of 2 crossover teams from the West loom larger.

Ok ok, I doubt we pitch 2 teams over into the East's spot, but I will be willing to bet you at least 1 team from the west does cross over.

Plus, take it as you will, that Ticat team just did not impress me last year and I had the feeling they were going to get clobbered in the Grey Cup, though to be honest with you probably nobody woulda beaten SSK that day.  But still, took the Ticats luck to beat a MTL team with an interim HC, a carousel of QBs and all in their back yard.  Then of course the Argos just were off their game the next week.  Anyhow, I just don't think they're going to be so lucky this year.

But if the Riders lose .... Well that's always a good thing.

  2. Glenn had one bad game... He's a good QB, I find it hilarious that he has a bad game and you guys all just use this opportunity to the fullest to bash and ridicule him.

Then when he's playing good(which is a hell of a lot more then when he plays bad) there's no praise, there's no pats on the back, you all just shut your mouths and wait for your next opportunity

Are you kidding me?  Some of us had to put up with ridiculous posters always calling for us to bring him back for this year, blaming our beloved GM for not going after him and we got sick of it.

It's not that he plays bad games all the time, it's that he has NO CLUTCH, whatsoever.

Time and time again, the game will be on the line and guess what?  An interception or worse yet, a pick 6.  Seen plenty of the guy over the years to know that's what happens.

Happened with us, happened lots of times with the TiCats, certainly happened with the stampeders, and it happened again with BC.  Lions fans are hoping to god that Lulay comes back immediately I can tell you.

  3. Let's all remember something, Burke is not Toronto's head coach, and even though Millanovich doesn't run the defense, he certainly is going to get involved and be pulling things to try and help Burke get it fixed, count on it.

We've often said before, when an offense like Montreal's has a new man at the helm like Troy Smith, there's going to be struggles and the O there is not going to look like the O of old, and so it goes for the Toronto defense as well.  All those new bodies out there and without players like Evan McCullough and others who've been anchor points in the past, this is what has happened to start with.  I don't see them giving up 45 points a game week in and week out, certainly not against some of their weaker East conference brethren, although Ottawa may give them fits.

But that being said, I was laughing at Burke last night, and I very much believe his defenses over the years have been largely dependent on personnel on the field, more so than effective schemes.  Think about it.  His best year with us, 2011, Doug Brown was here leading the pack.  I really think his presence on the field along with Coach Harris (RIP) who I think was huge in giving that team cohesion to begin with, was what helped Burke's defenses play great in those days.  They significantly dropped off in the next 2 years.  Granted our offense getting worse had a lot to do with that as well, but I have seen defensive geniuses fall off before.  Greg Marshall certainly saw the game pass him by by the end of last year, and such may be happening with Burke after a bad year of head coaching as well.

  4. And where did it all start boys - preseason. 0-2 last year, 0-2 this year. I've preached many times, check the Jets record in their second year (one loss to their farm team, then beat Chicago in their home opener 6 to 2 then beat Colorado for their next win - 30 games later) that pre-season wins / losses mean nothing. It's how you play, how you compete in those games. Last year was an embarrassment. This year was inspiring, the bombers fought, played 60 minutes and competed to the end.

So the score surprised me insomuch as I thought the Argos' would be better, especially on offense. But the effort didn't. I said in another thread O'Shea would win coach of the year (and I said that a week ago) and I still stand by that. Still one game, and I don't think we'll make the playoffs, but we won't finished by Labour Day, and teams will not like the road trip to Wpg.

Yup, excellent assessment, it's not about records, it's about a team's mentality and the overall morale that they have, and there most certainly is a huge difference between this year's team and last year's in that regard.

My only fear is just hoping that we didn't use up all our magic on last night's game lol.

  5. I mean, the offense in all phases of the game clicking?  When was the last time that happened?  When Burgess was here?  I mean I thought we could go out there, play close and tight and make it close, but just to go rolling in there like that and really actually be the team putting the pedal to the metal?  Lapolice had to be sick to his stomach seeing that lol.

  6. Trying to contain this excitement but just all kinds of going crazy has been going on tonight, and for plenty good reason too.

    1.  TD on the opening drive to start the game and get the offense flying high.  I was just thinking, when was the last time we actually drove down the field on an opening drive and scored.  Seems like it was centuries ago.

    2.  I just want to call Bellefeuille the biggest genius of CFL offense I've ever seen.  Ok ok, I know it's just one game, the O is gonna be tested a lot this year and will need to prove a lot before we can say that, but this playcalling was among the best I have seen in a very very long time.  That disease called the checkdown offense really is gone now.  And I mean really gone.

    3.  ST, wasn't on their A-game no, though that fake punt was a brilliant move.  But since our coach is about as ST expertised as you can get, it will get better.

Team's gonna get their tests, and in those moments of adversity is when we'll find out what they're really made of, but when you want to build a winning team and build confidence moving forward, this is about as good as it could ever get.  Just wowee.  We just really might be legit this year.

  7. Game could go a variety of ways.  Just saw on the other site some nut decided to make a thread wondering when the boo birds would come out.  Can these people just quit trying to stir the pot like that?  I mean, it could be a blow out tonight and they still wouldn't come out from me, just from the fact that building a team back up from 3-15 involves a lot of things that don't change in just 1 week.  It's a mentality we're trying to change, and I get the feeling from seeing preseason play, that much work has been done already to try and fix that mentality, but going up against the big established dogs is gonna take a little trial and error to fix that one.

Idk, I'm just all for cutting O'Shea enough rope before I jump to conclusions about him.

  8. Why TSN wastes airtime with Lawless regurgitating his talking points from his columns when they have actual football analysts is beyond me.

Let Lawless report news and maybe do some insider stuff with Naylor.

Drives me nuts that Lawless thinks he's the Winnipeg community spokesperson.  If I didn't know any better I'd say he thinks he's the mafia lord anointed by the WFP.
