  1. Medlock's chowing on an apple now. Kickers are weird.
  2. Also...it's training camp, not the last practise before the Grey Cup. The primary purpose of tonight's game is to evaluate players to determine who should be on the roster. It's an exhibition game, it's going to have its ugly moments, the coaches will have to isolate the play of individuals from the play of the team. There will be one or two guys on our roster who may be working at Arby's* in a month. We're looking for the diamonds among the cubic zirconium tonight, not a lot more. * With three Mexican players on the team, there was a temptation to make a Taco Bell joke, but I'm too classy.
  3. Trust. People go on about OShea loving veterans. Veterans have earned trust. Draft picks show enough talent, they earn a roster spot. Once they've earned a roster spot they get put in situations to earn trust. Or a guy gets injured like Macho Harris and they get thrown into the fire and get their chance to earn trust in large doses like Taylor Loffler. Evaluating talent while balancing the salary cap while maintaining the starting ratio while meeting the roster ratio while trying to have all positions backed up for in-game injuries is always a tall task and makes for roster decisions that other sports leagues wouldn't necessarily make. If a rookie looks way better than a vet he's probably getting the job. I haven't heard any report claiming a NI DT is looking better than Thomas right now, but the reporters at the stadium usually aren't facing the field...nice gig if you can get it I suppose. These rookies who are getting jobs while Thomas is getting cut...they haven't even played an exhibition game yet. Their first real opportunity to dethrone Thomas and take his job is tomorrow night. We'll see how they do. They are the shiny new cars to Thomas' 7 year old body with bald tires and a little rust. I get the shiny new cars look nice and everyone wants to trade the 7 year old car in for one. A seven year old Camry is probably more reliable than a shiny new Lada, and coaches are really into reliability.
  4. "Jake Thomas, surprise training camp cut since 2016..."
  5. Sigh... 1) I agree with the notion that having an entire offseason split between two threads makes for cumbersome reading. 2) I remember certain members starting 10 different threads complaining about Richie Hall every time the Bombers allowed more than 20 points in a game, or starting a new topic every time a leaf fell from a tree, which was beginning to cause others to consider self-harm, and was a contributor to threads getting trimmed. 3) Trent Corney was a bad example to pick as he hadn't dressed for the Bombers in about 10 months and if this became a topic it would have long been buried on page 4 by now. 4) Manase Foketi not being at camp is a great example of a topic considering every person outside the Bomber organization, and perhaps a few inside the organization, thought he was on the field the entire time. 5) While anyone can start a thread at any time, as soon as they do there are people here who demand the mods to merge it into the two main threads. 6) The main reason I spend less time here and almost never post anymore is because of how incredibly childish adults seem to behave. As evidenced over the last 24 hours when a simple idea was thrown out, and yes, it had been thrown out before. 7) This is a privately-owned website maintained by volunteers, and I am getting something for nothing, and I am thankful for both the something that I get and the nothing that I have to give. Thanks Rich and team. 😎 But if you make 8 points you do get a free pair of sunglasses!! I will wear them to the game Friday!! Bomber football!!
  6. My recollection of the veterans exemption list is that on the few occasions it has been used previously there was always a personal reason along the lines of a serious illness in the family. As with all of my posts, nothing contained herein is meant to imply any knowledge whatsoever.
  7. I agree, that does seem to be implied, however, it isn't explicitly stated. I'm waiting on the CFL to create a new spot for "leadership signings". We could get Anwar Stewart pretty cheap.
  8. And you have 3 guys fighting for 1 job who have 3 days where their reps aren't being stolen by the 2 guys who are guaranteed jobs. Trying to look good throwing to rookie receivers who have never seen the field goal at the front of the end zone before. Hopefully they see it in time on that crossing route.
  9. The season might start without any significant disruption? Gobsmacked, I am simply gobsmacked...who would have ever seen this coming?
  10. That's not remotely true Joy is for losers?
  11. Kavis Reed. He's left that franchise in a crippled and nearly irreparable state, located in the CFL's second-most disinterested market. It should be known as the Kavis Clause. What year does Montreal finally have a first-round pick again? 2021**? This is the commish contemplating throwing a life preserver to Montreal. For competent GM's, there is nothing wrong with the way it is now. **apparently 2022!
  12. Internet fist pump. Now back to regularly scheduled real world.
  13. I thought the backup QB was supposed to be the most popular player on the team, but wow there is a weird obsession with 4th stringers around here.
  14. It's not imaginary either. I had lunch in an Applebee's in South Dakota today - Manziel news was 50% of what ESPN had on their show. All of it was in the context of him returning to the NFL, not his future in the CFL. Of course. I just shook my head an wondered what kind of analysis those same talking heads should be giving to the players in the CFL who have accomplished something other than hype. I also wondered if the lettuce/parmesan ratio in a caesar salad is supposed to be 50/50.
  15. I don't recall any of the amateur players ever getting time in real games during previous years. I assume that's to minimize the obvious liability issue as they are not under contract. Not 100% sure about Brett Carter - I think he only played after he was signed to a contract, not before. It would be interesting to see where they stack up vs the other NI's.
  16. I put 98% of it on Arjei Franklin. The season totally turned around once we shipped his spit-disturbing carcass to Calgary.
  17. I have a recollection of Bryan Randall picking up a win for us in Montreal. Against Calvillo, no less. I might be mistaken, but my memory alarm system is yelling something about a 3 point win, 25-22 or something like that.
  18. It's a ton of pressure, and probably totally unfair of me, but I've been wondering what Simonise and crew have to do to get out of the massive shadow left by the legacy of Adam Bestard, Peter Quinney, Mike Morris and THE REAL #44 Thaine Carter. Play a game for the Bombers? Oh. So it turns out the answer is anything more than absolutely nothing.
  19. It sounds like Mr. Finch forgot to read his textbook prior to his textbook arrest.
  20. Your move, Chris Jones...
  21. Possibly, but I think the opposite is more likely - that Walters was pretty certain the guys he really wanted wouldn't be available by pick #7. That he had a small group of guys in his "elite" tier, Chapman and a couple of the Olinemen perhaps, and a much bigger group of guys in his "pretty good" tier. And since he had very little chance of landing an elite player in this draft, why not move down 5 spots, get a pretty good player much like we would have gotten anyways, and get a pick in next year's draft that very realistically could be a top 3 pick? That way we actually can turn our pick this year into landing an elite player. It's just a theory, one that makes sense to me. And after all, otherwise next year we wouldn't get to pick until 9th. That said, this Bomber draft class fell well outside of what we would consider to be the norm.
