[Blue Bomber Talk] Early thoughts on 2015 CFL Draft
Goalie replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Really think we go oline at 2 this year now. -
we are 2-0 vs Chicago this year, why win and we're a playoff team? right now we are a playoff team, actually we are the 5th best team in the entire western conference.

Hutch's sample size is still too small to say, Really he's played 20 career NHL games so far, I like the guy but the fact is, who knows what Hutch will be like in a years time, He's under contract next season for 600,000. What do you do with Pav when/if Hutch is ready to permanently take over? Many things..Buy him out, Bury his contract in St Johns, Trade him.. Believe it or not, you probably could get something back for him, his numbers are better than lots of goalies in the league right now, Minny just traded a 3rd round pick for Devan Friggin Dubnyk.. You could probably get something in return for Pav.. not sure what? But wouldn't shock me if they trade him in the off-season if they feel Hutch actually can be that guy and Hellebyuck is ready to come up and back up. Or you just keep Pav around one more year, Make some tough choices elsewhere, Ladd and Buff are both due for new contracts? do you sign both of them? let them both go? sign one only? You also have guys like Ehlers,Morrissey,Petan,Copp probably coming in on ELC's not getting paid much. Theres ways to balance this out but.. right now as much as i like Hutch and think he does have what it takes to be a good goalie in this league for this team, right now, he still is kind of unproven. 20 games or so in his NHL career so far, Let's not get ahead of ourselves yet with Hutch. Trade Kane? Don't re-sign slater? Lots of options really but it's too early to worry about what to do with PAV in a year or 2 when Hutch needs a new contract cuz who really knows what happens between now and then.

Every goalie has a few bad games at times, Heck Even guys like Price Rinne and Lundquist suck crap at times. I think it's more about how the team in front of him plays too then it is just about the goalie. Last few games Pavelec has played, the Team itself hasn't played very well either. Over 40 shots vs Anaheim too, The Arizona game was a gong show. I understand Pavelec does steal the odd game, plays spectacular and then goes back to normal Pavelec numbers but lots of goalies do. Not sure why i'm comparing him to those top level elite goalies anyway, He's not being paid like they are.. Reality is... Pavelec at 3.9 million, well... He's half as good as the guys i mentioned and is being paid half as much. Pav will never be a top tier goaltender in the league, not many guys are tho. You look at how much Pav is being paid and compare it to guys who are being paid as much as he is and it's remarkably similar numbers and percentages. He's not Rinne, Lundquist,Price but he's pretty good value at 3.9 compared to guys like Mike Smith in Phoenix making way more or Rask this season in Boston making as much as Price,Rinne and Lundquist are.

If the team plays like Last night, Hutch will be in for a long long night. It's more about the team in front of the goalie than just the goalie himself. Last night was, well, let's just say if you leave your goalie out to dry like that most games, you aren't gonna win. Pavelec stood on his head the entire night, That was the best goaltending performance this season probably by any goalie on any team, Games like that are not gonna happen very often. You just expect your goalie to make the key saves and keep you in it for the most part, not steal the game. Jets need to show up tonight, if not, i don't care if it's Hutch, Price, Pavelec, Rinne, you aren't gonna win much if you play like that. Need to stop making it about the goalies and making it about the team as a whole, last night? sure, Pav won the game but to expect the goalie to do that every night is just unrealistic and for the most part this season, the goalies haven't had to steal the game, they just needed to make some key saves. Last night was the exception, Dallas had damn near 100 shot attempts, That does not happen every night and if it happens tonight, I highly doubt they win. Jets need to show up as a team tonight, if not, it's a guaranteed loss, regardless of how well Hutch or whoever is in net plays. Part of the reason, the main part really why Pavelec was so amazing last night was because the team in front of him absolutely sucked the last 2 periods.

Dallas did own us for sure, from the second period on, but.. from Dallas's perspective, their season was on the line really, win and they are 5 back, lose like they did and they are a long way back, 9 points now, that's a lot, Stars have been streaky this year, Jets have been consistent... It's crazy how consistent actually.. 45 games play, 18 points after 15, 36 after 30, 54 after 45... 18 points every 15 games it seems, That's some consistent play and considering they just got Toby,Bogo and Stuart back and Trouba is still out, Jets have been very consistent this season.. Another point to ponder is that in their last 38 or is it 39 games now, the jets have only lost 10 games. Jets started the season 1-4. Since then, they are one of the best teams in the league really... 22-10-8 since that little tough stretch to open the year. Amazing really and considering a good portion of that was without their top 2 lets say top 4 even D man and Kane missing time, pretty darn impressive. Jets are for real. They got owned for sure but...like i said, Dallas was basically playing for their season last night.

Pav was amazing. Him and Scheifs line stole this one. Pav needed that

One or two unannounced signings (update 1/21)

Sears is 6'1 193 pounds so this guy is 3 inches taller and 2 pounds heavier... Sears makes it work. Light? Maybe but.. it's all about how athletic he is, I hear Bryant is a bit slow tho, not fast... not the quickest player in the world... That would be the more concerning part than how tall or how heavy he is. Needs to be able to keep up with these speedy receivers up here, can he? Benton seems like a beast tho. Definitely a MLB candidate there. Also interesting to note but on the Official Bomber site, Quinn Everett, OL is listed on the roster. -
TBrack would look good at safety and Mo Leg could either move up to play a DB position or become a LB, I like his size and hitting ability.. Having a guy like Mo Leg closer to the line of scrimmage could only equal good things. Not sure Tbrack tho is someone we'd have much interest in.. I'd offer him a deal but i probably wouldn't go crazy. We have bigger needs to fill elsewhere. That being said, If we have the cap room, heck, go for it.

It's kind of a huge blow to Nashville. Their AHL goalie has been playing well but... It's Hutton time now. I guess if you want to do a comparable here.. and I'm not saying they are equal cuz Rinne is the best goalie in the world but.. Rinne is to Nashville what Hutch is to the Jets and Hutton to Nashville is what Pavelec is to the Jets. Pretty big drop off there in terms of numbers, that being goals against and save percentage and wins for that matter. The only silver lining for the Preds is i believe they only play Eastern teams until the all star break. I believe their schedule is rather soft the next few weeks too.

I guess i can understand the reasoning behind the trade, Henry needs someone to throw the ball too, But giving up Simmons for Price is just brutal really.

Smith eh? was he rostered by the Cowboys? Or was he on their PR? if he was on the PR, i'd suspect it's just a matter of time before he is let go, Thought we let him go because of injury concerns the Cowboys were having, Thought they brought Smith in as an injury replacement, Not sure tho, Don't really care for the Cowboys too much. -
Go to the one the one in Grand Forks and it's totally different. Target Canada, good for some things but for the most part was just Zellers with the Target name. That was their problem and people they interviewed who worked there agreed, that the biggest problem was that people were expecting Target Canada to be just like Target USA but what we got was more of a Zellers remake with a Target name attached to it.

Went with a little below average. The reasoning for that being.. I like our depth players, i guess you can call them "non starters"... I'm talking guys like Briggs,Jones,Newman (was injured tho all last year, huge loss IMO), Sherman (good depth player), Thomas (good depth player). Guys like that. There are others too, JFG i suppose is one but we seem to be lacking the high end starting talent, Picard IMO is probably our best Canadian Starter as of today, I like Greaves but i don't think his job is guaranteed, I like Goossen but he's probably a year or 2 away from being Center, might be a guard option tho, I really like Kohlert, very good very consistent player, Watson when health, when healthy, when HEALTHY does probably start on every team in the league but only WHEN HEALTHY.. Neufeld looked good last season but injury issues are a concern. Lirim is Money. Bucknor was quite the surprise actually. Upgrade the starters tho and we'd be maybe average or a bit above average. Add a guy like Heenan and some depth like Hurl or a guy like that and who knows, See what free agency brings. The draft should yield us some talent too so perhaps this time next year, we are average or a little above average. I like the path we are on tho.

Ha great tune there actually. In non Jets related however Central Division related news, UH OH in Nashville.. Pekka Rinne, IMO, the best goalie in the league when he is healthy, numbers back that up too, Out 3-5 weeks with LBI.

Benton sounds like a candidate for the middle linebacker spot. Tackling machine much? -

#Bombers add International MAC linebacker Shamari Benton (5-11, 231) and International defensive back Jarrid Bryant (6-4, 195). Per Darren Cameron Tweet -
I believe a reporters asked him and he gave the obvious "as long as we are winning, that's all that matters" answer. But deep inside, you gotta think he knows his time in winnipeg is coming to an end.

This is a very good article and really does illustrate just how well the Jets have played this year. Top 3 in possession is huge, it's one of those over looked things but it matters lots.
-
It makes no sense at all really. Plus we have owned Chicago this year, that might change but so far 2-0 vs them... Dallas has very little chance of catching us and or making the playoffs, they go on these runs this year where they win for a week then they lose for 2.. I'm honestly more concerned about the Chicago game than i am about tonight. IMO, if we play like we did vs LA, ANAHEIM and Flordia, we win this one tonight in a route. Dallas is not good, they are one of the worst defensive teams in the league. That's their issue this year, their D and goaltending is terrible.

The one by Polo, rumor has it, it will be an outlet type of mall, similar to what they are putting up near the seasons of tuxedo. Swear i read on twitter or even the paper that a client (fashion industry) (or even multiple fashion industry "stores" ) are taking that one over.

Start Pav, he has played well the last couple games, Well enough to win at least... We need both of these games and since it's back to back and Hutch has owned Chicago this year, we are 2-0 vs Chicago in Chicago this year, Hutch goes tomorrow. Fun fact: the last week or so the Jets are one of the highest if not the highest scoring team in the league, averaging over 4 goals per game (minus the arizona debacle). Start Pav, he plays well vs Dallas. Start Hutch tomorrow in Chicago. He's 2-0 vs them this season.
