I totally agree with you. Those incremental increases were prearranged. The next major negotiation is still a couple of years away. What the financial situation of the  league is a big unknown right now. If we are still in these tight finances (and I am guessing that the missing the covid season has a lot to do with that) then it is just stay in financial survival mode.
However, if we are continuing to see TV fan ratings going up there could be a substantially larger amount of money available for the salary cap. It might even be a quantum leap. When such discoveries are made financial decisions in a compacted time frame are not always made with the greatest wisdom.
Preplanning what to do with newfound money is not senseless. It often makes a great deal of difference; in order to negotiate well; you have to know what is truly important and what makes a big difference. Otherwise, the money just goes to the top end of the player pool, as the all-stars demand and the general managers compete. That is the opposite of planning.
So at the next player negotiations, if there is not a source of new money from increased viewership or attendance, then I agree that the best thing to focus on is player safety and procedural methods to ensure that safety. One item I have harked on in the past is quarterback protection. There are many other issues. There is also methodology to increase player security and comfort.
Why bring preplanning up now? Because we are in a lull of big events to discuss. How many posters are considering the state of the league 3 to 5 years down the line?
Now that we've had the NFL draft last night, we can start to get into the nitty-gritty of our Canadian draft and getting players to camp. It's getting exciting!

In the past it seemed like OL blossomed late, and played till the wheels fell off. Now, especially with Canadians, they seem to start and leave much earlier than before. With the change of body/athletic types along the OL we've seen guys prioritize walking away with a great degree of health and quality of living than ever before. I feel like out side of that we see solid to fringe players walk away despite having roles they could fill for a long time a good bit as well. Some times because they seemingly realize they can't be more or because they realize the amount of grind that is required to attain little on maintain a high level of play is much more than they expected.

I think McCrae had plenty of talent, but not the best situation to be in with Brady hogging the ball and the dedicated crew  of receivers he was competing against plus Grant.  As for wages, he probably played for close to minimum throughout his tenure, can't fault the guy for trying to make a living playing football.

Really good pick up. He made a Vikings team that had a good group of WRs, as a wr. He was a good kr in college, but isn’t a kr that plays wr. He’s a wr that does kr for touches.
Great hands, attacks the ball and makes catches in the smallest windows. Great body control and balance.

Itd be great if we carry two guys like that one as the 5th wr and one as a kr while being able to interchange them on both kr and the offence.

Don't see why this guy matters at all, it's either a civil or criminal case, the CFL can react appropriately after the official verdict is rendered, instead of trying to implement corrective action ahead of time.

This is a great point. Honestly the sum she’s suing for is soo relatively small I’m surprised mlse didn’t just write a cheque and slap a gag order on this.

Its not the THC per se but continuing to use when you are already marked and risking almost certain being caught and blowing a career that (theoretically) you have been pursuing is a strong indicator of either being mega stoned or you have the intelligence of dryer lint.

Unless Grant wants to play in the UFL for less or retire, he doesn't have many options left, finding an equivalent replacement for his dynamic ability, experience and toughness won't be easy.  If Walters can't sign him shortly, I expect a mediocre return game, much like we saw most of last season.  If there is any money left, perhaps he can pick up a known castoff from another team for min. wage after TC cuts.

Flaherty also did not start as a performer, he began his career as a production assistant with Second City in Chicago with no intention of ever going on stage.  He got roped into filling roles whenever an extra body was needed and began his career mostly by being in the right place at the wrong time.

Humble and practical guy, wants to be involved in football after his playing days are done, paying close attention and rubbing shoulders with those that can help him get there is smart.  Same can be said for Jake and Willie, projecting past their retirement date looking for future opportunities and getting involved.  That's how it's done.
